This study analyzes Apple advertisement video entitled The Whole Working From Home Thing. This study uses multimodal theory from Paltridge (2012), semiotic mode from Chia & Chan (2017), Mercado (2011), Eiseman (2017), Ekman & Friesen (2003), and Pease (2004). The data analysis uses a qualitative method. The analysis reveals that Apple has successfully created the video that could portray the hectic situation people felt when they could only do their activities inside their home during COVID-19 pandemic. While being busy with their lifestyle, they use Apple products by utilizing its features to help them. Furthermore, this study opens new possibilities for other researchers to apply the same theory that has been used in this thesis to analyze film and video with different topics.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127919158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It tries to investigate the roles of each setting and the portrayals of human-nature relationship in the narrative. The results indicate that there is a dichotomy of the city and mountain. City is depicted as the antagonist while mountain is the protagonist, taking the role of a mother. The narrative conveys nature as an autonomous entity with power to attack/ support the inhabitants. There is interdependency between nature and human being in the text. Nature needs human being to protect it while humans maintain their good relationship with the nature by keeping the rules and social norms around the setting in order to obtain the protection from nature. Despite the novel’s attempt to put nature as the more superior entity, the character’s decision at the end of the narrative shows that nature is still seen as a source of comforts to satisfy human’s needs. To be precise, historical dramas have a market that has increased year by year since 2017. This thesis is about Confucian virtues found in four women characters in a historical Chinese drama titled The Sword and The Brocade. This television drama intrigues the writer to analyze four women characters Luo Shi Yi Niang, Qiao Lian Fang, Madam Xu, and Xiang Yi Zhen in the story because The Sword and The Brocade shows the dynamic relationship between the women characters and the plot is wrapped in historical settings but with modern perspective. This thesis aims to find out how the female characters’ actions reflect Confucian virtues and what the impacts of the reflected actions are for them. The analysis is based on Confucianism; focusing on five Confucian virtues: loyalty, filial piety, wisdom, benevolence, and harmony. Moreover, the analysis begins with the women’s way to express the Confucian virtues within their actions and then moves to how the actions from reflecting the virtues impacted their life. From expressing loyalty to harmony, Luo Shi Yi Niang, Qiao Lian Fang, Madam Xu, and Xiang Yi Zhen get positive changes in their lives like getting a new status, achieving their goals, making their family proud, and getting positive aftermath from their past actions. The finding is these women prove that women can gain benefits from Confucianism that is known to be patriarchal and these women are the example of how ancient belief can be modernized to suit nowadays’ modern issues and the story is suitable for everyone and in every era.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125290176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of those novels is Astonishing Color of After, a novel about the mother and daughter’s relationship between two generations, Dory with her mother, and Dory with her daughter, Leigh. This novel intrigues me to analyze the characteristics of Dory's and Dory's mother's parenting style, the influence of their parenting styles, and how it affects the mother's and daughter's relationship and their daughter's behavior problems. To analyze these three points, I will apply the authoritarian parenting style and permissive parenting style based on the types of parenting theory by Diana Baumrind. My analysis will show how Dory's and Dory's mother's parenting style is influenced by the culture and childhood trauma, and how their parenting styles affect the relationship between them and their daughter as well as their daughters' behavioral problems. This thesis will end with a conclusion that there is a line between when the parents become authority figures and when the parents become the companion of their children.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131144272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, I will analyze the depictions of women portrayed in AKB48’s five summer music videos. To reach the objective of my analysis, I will use the theory of male gaze, specifically on the way the members are depicted in the videos. From my analysis, I discovered that through the perspective of male gaze, the idols are depicted as alluring, seductive, and playful. It can be assumed that the portrayal might be a strategy used to hoist their popularity over the other girl groups in Japan. Therefore, the sexualized depiction of the idols is actually proven to be successful in making the group popular.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"298 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123393989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The theory of folk devil by Stanley Cohen and Erving Goffman’s theories on framing are used to determine the deviant images of the mothers that are created by the news using various means of framing. The mothers who kill the children in the news were depicted as having inhuman characters, having psychological problems, and having a weak nature for dealing with external problems, thus, they are portrayed as folk devils. This portrayal is based on the use of various kinds of elements of construction, such as choice of words, contradiction, perspective, comparison, symbolism, stereotype, exaggeration, highlighted and unhighlighted parts in the news, and assumption as means to frame the killer mother as folk devils. News can be fictionalized for certain purposes. There are many articles used to define mothers as having the quality of deviant characters. During the author’s final assessment internship, PyonPyon was having trouble on getting traffic or even public exposure on their main social media account, Instagram. The author then identified PyonPyon’s problem as low traffic and public exposure on their main social media marketing. Therefore, a solution was implemented by putting PyonPyon on an endorsement through live streamers and posting unique Instagram post. Supporting the solution, the author needs to know the level of brand awareness and consumer’s buying behavior. Thus, a survey was created to 36 respondents from across Indonesia. From the questionnaire, result showed that PyonPyon’s brand awareness is currently at the lowest stage, which is “unaware of brand”. After the survey and implementing the solution, result showed that by putting PyonPyon on live streamers that has decent live views, it can raise the Instagram traffic of PyonPyon. The author decided that endorsement in live streams is a good way to gain traffic and to gain public exposure, also increases PyonPyon brand awareness, since the target market, or the live viewers can check out PyonPyon’s Instagram and product at the same time while it is shown on the show. The author created a strategy by applying theories such as measuring levels of brand awareness from Aaker (1991), methods to increase brand awareness from Liando and Setyawati (2014), social media marketing from Hayes (2021), and advertising from Yakup (2011). In fact, Kedai Kopi Nadi’s ambiance and price of the products can beat other cafes such as Montana, Zona Nyaman, and Kopi Nusantara. Unfortunately, the only social media they have, namely Instagram, is not used properly so it becomes ineffective for marketing. With a target market of university students ranging from 18 to 25 years old, showing off Kedai Kopi Nadi’s USP on Instagram is effective to attract them. Kedai Kopi Nadi has several USPs that can be highlighted on the Instagram content. Its strengths are the product price, the ambiance or atmosphere of the cafe, and the product menu. Not only that, the writer collected answers from Kedai Kopi Nadi’s customers and target market to create content that was suitable for Kedai Kopi Nadi.
