The Aluminium 6063 was used as base material and SiC/Al2O3 were used as reinforcement with varying weight %. The parametric study on a wire-cut electro discharge machine was carried out by using Taguchi Method. A statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to identify the process parameters that were statistically significant. It was observed that the MRR decreases with increase in the percentage weight fraction of SiC and Al2O3 particles in the MMCs and HMMCs. Whereas, the surface roughness parameter increases with increase in the percentage weight fraction of SiC and Al2O3 particles due to the hardness of MMCs and HMMCs composites.","PeriodicalId":35968,"journal":{"name":"Strojnicky Casopis","volume":"67 1","pages":"25 - 36"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/scjme-2017-0015","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46592077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hucko","doi":"10.1515/scjme-2017-0016","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1515/scjme-2017-0016","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract This article discusses the application of so-called ultrasonic quasi-Rayleigh waves to detect surface defects of mechanical constructions, namely plate structures. The application of quasi-Rayleigh waves allows the extension of the scope of detection using conventional ultrasonic methods that are based on bulk waves. This extension means larger distances as well as higher sensitivity of the detection of surface defects such as fatigue or corrosion cracks. An advantage of this method is the transfer of wave energy from one side of a plate to another, which helps to overcome one-sided obstacles (such as cross-pieces, reinforcement elements). The article describes characteristic properties of quasi-Rayleigh waves that are important for the proper (in terms of frequency in particular) design of the excitation of waves towards the structure. FEM simulation results then provide information regarding the sensitivity of the wave response to the presence and sizes of surface defects (perpendicular slots) in an isotropic material with the properties of steel. The theoretical knowledge is set against experimental measurements obtained with the use of a steel plate with cross-pieces welded to it.","PeriodicalId":35968,"journal":{"name":"Strojnicky Casopis","volume":"67 1","pages":"37 - 50"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46873055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stick-slip frictional effects are mathematically described by simplification of physical assumptions. Self-excited vibrations due to stick-slip and also stability conditions are defined using a 1 degree of freedom mechanical system. Non-Coulomb nonlinear behavior of the friction force with negative slope is considered. Response is obtained by the numerical solution of ordinary differential equation.","PeriodicalId":35968,"journal":{"name":"Strojnicky Casopis","volume":"67 1","pages":"100 - 93"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/scjme-2017-0010","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41891191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main aim of the paper is to investigate how mechanical and thermo mechanical loading would affect the stress ratio and stress distribution of composite plate. The plate is composed of layers of glass-epoxy composite and the orientation of the layers is assumed to be antisymmetric about the neutral axis of the laminate. The plate is subjected to a combined mechanical loading of tensile force and moment along x direction. The thermo mechanical stress is calculated for different ply orientation and thickness ratio, subjected to a temperature change and mechanical loading. The effect of number of lamina and varying thickness of laminate on the stress ratio and stress distribution is studied. The results in this paper are obtained by use of MATLAB Programming and by Finite element software ANSYS 14. Results obtained from both the methods are compared. Such type of loading finds wide application in aircraft flying at high altitude, marine application, medical devices etc.","PeriodicalId":35968,"journal":{"name":"Strojnicky Casopis","volume":"67 1","pages":"22 - 5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/scjme-2017-0001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42925555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is characterised by the natural circulation of helium, as a coolant, and assume steady operating conditions of circulation. The helium loop consists of four main components: model of gas-cooled fast reactor, model of the heat exchanger for decay heat removal, hot piping branch and cold piping branch. Using the process hydrodynamic calculations, the pressure drops of circulating helium within the main components of the helium loop were determined. The calculations have been done for several defined operating conditions which correspond to the different helium flow rates within the system.","PeriodicalId":35968,"journal":{"name":"Strojnicky Casopis","volume":"67 1","pages":"29 - 36"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/scjme-2017-0003","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46088317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four different zones of distinct appearances were observed during FSW, which exhibited altered microstructures in the nugget zone (NZ), thermo mechanically affected zone (TMAZ), heat affected zone (HAZ), and base material zone (BMZ). The ultimate tensile strength of the base materials and their welded joints were found to be increasing with increased wt% of nano-alumina reinforcements. High joint efficiency of 89-97% was achieved in FSW. Hardness and wear resistance of friction stir welded joints were found to be better than those of the base materials.","PeriodicalId":35968,"journal":{"name":"Strojnicky Casopis","volume":"67 1","pages":"77 - 86"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/scjme-2017-0008","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45243112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
