This study provides influence of fixed effects and estimates of genetic parameters of traits related to both types of tracks. In total, 5393 records from 1991 animals tested in the years 1995–2014 on lashed performance (5 traits), and 5405 records from 2070 animals tested in the years 2005–2014 on non-leashed performance (10 traits) were included in the dataset. The pedigree file contained 8623 animals. Heritabilities were generally low for the non-leashed traits and a bit higher for the leashed traits. Genetic correlations within trait group were very highly positive for the leashed dog traits, but variable among some traits in the non-leashed group. Genetic correlations between performance traits in the two groups were generally negative and unfavourable. Genetic trends were generally positive for the time periods.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81136570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the fecal microbiota of the fox and raccoon dog were thus analyzed. Total DNA was extracted from fecal samples, and the v4 16S rRNA gene amplicons were characterized on an Illumina MiSeq platform. A total of 1433 operational taxonomical units (OTUs) belonging to 18 bacterial phyla were identified. The most predominant phyla, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria, were identified as the core microbiota, which was consistent with findings from other canids, such as the dog, wolf and dhole. Prevotella and Megasphaera were the major genera in both fox and raccoon dog. Even though the composition and ratio of genera varied between these two canids, their fecal microbial communities were similar to each other.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82404586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An estrus synchronization protocol was implemented, with fixed time artificial insemination on day 70. Follicular or luteal growth, and pregnancy rate were similar between groups. Of all cows, five showed multiple ovulations (2–6); increasing number of ovulations reduced preovulatory follicle diameter and individual luteal volume (P < 0.05), but total luteal volume was greater in cows with 2 or 3 ovulations on day 14 after insemination (P < 0.05). Estradiol and progesterone levels were associated to follicular and luteal growth, respectively. No difference was found in IGF1 or GDF9 levels between groups or associated to fertility. No association was found between BCS, IGF1 or GDF9 levels and the reproductive process.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79641381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An internet-based questionnaire was sent out to dairy farmers connected to the Norwegian co-operative breeding organization Geno (N = 8222), of which 10.8% answered (N = 888). Of the 15 suggested traits fertility had the highest overall ranking, while parasite resistance and methane emission had the lowest. Four distinct preference clusters were identified by the means of cluster analysis, of which two had a high preference for milk production. Differences in terms of farm and herd characteristics between clusters suggests a mixture of systematic and intrinsic effects on breeding goal trait priorities. This study shows that Norwegian dairy farmers’ preferences for breeding goal traits fall into four distinct clusters, both affected by herd and farm characteristics along with intrinsic values.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73202050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the recent literature data, the following conclusions can be drawn: (1) Heat stress can cause harmful effects in birds (e.g. increased ROS (Reactive Oxygen Spices) production and lipid peroxidation, decreased vitamin concentrations, changed enzyme activity) and consequently in production parameters (e.g. feed intake, body weight and feed conversion ratio). (2) Diets containing high Vitamin A (9000–15 000 IU/kg diet), E (150–500 mg/kg diet), C (150–500 mg/kg diet) and Zn (30/60 mg/kg diet) and Se (0.1–1 mg/kg diet) can decrease the amounts of free radicals, support enzyme activity and prevent lipid peroxidation in poultry. (3) Application of antioxidant vitamins and micro minerals in poultry nutrition is more effective in combination than separately.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82510519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fourteen heifers kept in two pens were housed on straw or wood chip bedding for 43 days, after which the bedding material was switched for 43 additional days. Significantly more mould was found in wood chip than in straw and there was a tendency towards less yeast in wood chip. The heifers had a low faecal parasitic load. The results indicate that the wood chip treatment resulted in somewhat cleaner animals. The heifers had a significantly longer total lying time when kept on straw. In conclusion, wood chip deep bedding could be an option as bedding material, but the impact on hygiene of bedding material and lying behaviour needs to be further investigated.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90742608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, transcriptome profiling was used to examine the fat tissues of both breeds. Min pig compared to Large White pig, 523 DEGs were down-regulated, and 112 DEGs were up-regulated. The DEGs were significantly enriched in biological process of oxidoreductase activity; helicase activity and others. In cellular component, DEGs were enriched in intracellular. In molecular function, DEGs were enriched in cytoskeletal protein binding and ion binding. Although there were many DEGs between Min pigs and Large White pigs, no significant pathway was enriched surprisingly. ATP6V0A4, TAP2, FGFBP1, PHEROA and GLYATL2 were expressed significantly higher in Large White pigs. These results suggest that the gene expression pattern in the back fat tissue was different between Large White pigs and Min pigs.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87774326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the association with premie race participation and future competitive racing success was evaluated. Analyses including all raced horses born between 2000 and 2009 (n = 9350) showed a relationship between premie race participation with reduced career longevity and prize money earnings. However, when analyses only included horses that raced competitively (n = 7497; i.e. horses with participation in only premie or qualification races were excluded), premie race participation was associated with increased racing success. These findings indicate that premie race fields consist of both horses with good racing ability as well as horses with limited talent. Overall this study shows that premie racing is likely to be beneficial for both the horse and the trainer.","PeriodicalId":35885,"journal":{"name":"Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica Section A-Animal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2018-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88435531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
