QoS design is the fundamental functionality of the next generation IP router to enable differentiated delivery and to guarantee the delivery quality for diverse service traffic. The proposed algorithm called adaptive weighted fair queue (AWFQ) scheduling employs the queue status and priority assignment to determine the bandwidth sharing of various Internet services and to ensure the defined QoS policy is obtained. We propose a smart methodology of distributing the outlink bandwidth in a flexible, fair and prioritized manner to utilize network bandwidth more effectively and efficiently. In simulation, we compare the proposed AWFQ algorithm with priority queue (PQ) and weighted fair queue (WFQ) that are two famous scheduling algorithms in practice. In comparison, we examine their performances in terms of packet loss, bandwidth utilization and queue dynamics to verify our algorithm. We find that the proposed algorithm has the following advantages: 1) improves the bandwidth starvation of low-priority traffic occurring in PQ, 2) has a high bandwidth utilization close to PQ, 3) has a low queue congestion and 4) maintains the fairness of WFQ. Overall, the proposed algorithm not only has an excellent performance close to PQ but also improve the disadvantage of PQ.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. A new two-way dynamic focusing algorithm has been introduced to focus the ultrasound waves at all imaging points both in transmit and receive. We propose a three-way dynamic focusing technique to further improve the lateral resolution. To implement the proposed technique in real time, a novel synthetic aperture method is also proposed, in which each array element is excited individually and the resulting pulse echoes are received at all elements of the corresponding subaperture. After repeating the transmit-and-receive step for all array elements, the three-way dynamic focusing is achieved by combining a synthetic aperture algorithm for two-way dynamic focusing and a synthetic focusing technique for transmit dynamic focusing. Computer simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides significantly improved lateral resolution at all depths compared with other focusing methods.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. The current cache system employs a hard strategy: either the image is stored in a cache or not, even if its data is quite big. We have proposed a caching scheme featuring a human memory mechanism (image database system featuring graceful oblivion), which is called graceful caching. Previous work shows that graceful caching reduces user response time by assigning a variable amount of memory to each image. Several recent studies suggest that prefetching techniques could be employed to further improve the cache performance, by anticipating and prefetching future client requests. Some approaches based on request frequency have been proposed to the conventional caching (hard system) and got better results. We try to apply a request frequency-based approach to the graceful caching system, in which a progressive image format is used. Based on the analysis of Web request probability in graceful caching, we go on to propose a new prefetching algorithm that drastically improves the cache performance of the system. We verify the performance of this algorithm by simulations.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. A rigorous specification would result in a more reliable and highly maintainable implementation, and hence would reduce the time and cost required for performing the development and maintenance activities. We propose to use the Unified Modeling Language (UML) for the specification documentation and elicitation of behavioral, structural and architectural models covering both the static and dynamic aspects of protocols. We illustrate the use of UML using a simple communication service and protocol.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. However, a method to set parameters has not been studied. The validity of this channel model has also not been confirmed. Moreover, this channel modeling considering the effect of the non-linear amplifier has not been investigated. In this paper, we propose a more detailed Gilbert channel, including the effect of the non-linear amplifier, and a method to set parameters of the Gilbert channel. We also compare the error performance between the Gilbert channel and multipath fading channel on a convolutional coded multicarrier modulation (MCM) system. Numerical results show that our proposed channel model can approximately express the multipath fading channel.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. Six basic human emotions including anger, dislike, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise are investigated. The recognizer presented in this paper is based on the discrete hidden Markov model and a novel feature vector based on mel frequency short time speech power coefficients is proposed. A universal codebook is constructed based on emotions under observation for each experiment. The databases consist of 90 emotional utterances each from two speakers. Several experiments including ungrouped emotion classification and grouped emotion classification are conducted. For the ungrouped emotion classification, an average accuracy of 72.22% and 60% are obtained respectively for utterances of the two speakers. For grouped emotion classification, higher accuracy of 94.44% and 70% are achieved.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. This approach can be limited, however, by analogue reconstruction filters that are necessary to remove digital image components from the baseband signal spectrum before transmission. Methods have been proposed to digitally compensate for these shortcomings. While these methods have been shown to be effective in improving modulator performance for a single realisation of the reconstruction filters, no study has been presented on the robustness of these methods to variations in the reconstruction filter characteristics. We present the experimental results obtained for a number of different realisations of the analogue reconstruction filters. Furthermore we show that in certain situations it is desirable to enforce an overall I and Q channel frequency response that has a different magnitude characteristic from that of the nominal reconstruction filter.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology. As is well known, CORBA does not provide any load balancing standard. CORBA compatibility has been kept intact by using the interceptor in a non-intrusive manner. The load information in each host is reported to the load analyzer through the event channel whenever the host load is passed up or down within the specified threshold. It reduces the network load that would result with periodical load reporting. Load balancing with reasonable network traffic is the benefit that accrues.","PeriodicalId":358168,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Technology.
