Śleszyński","doi":"10.33896/spolit.2022.65.1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33896/spolit.2022.65.1","url":null,"abstract":"The aim of this study is to demonstrate the specificity of the spread of recorded SARS-CoV-2 infections in Poland (five recorded waves, March 2020–March 2022). The data used were those of the Ministry of Health (by communes) and the team of M. Rogalski (2022) by poviats. The data was visualized on maps and charts, looking for spatio-temporal regularities. Infections were found to be more frequent in the northern part of the country and in agglomerations, but there were no correlations with population density, industrial employment or commuting, typical for the spread of infectious diseases. As the COVID-19 pandemic swept Poland voluntary organizations and spontaneous civic initiatives have demonstrated huge potential of solidarity embodied in the Polish society and its readiness to genuine, creative and effective responses. The article highlights the irreplaceable role of voluntary organizations and spontaneous citizen led activities during the pandemic and before 2020 in mobilizing social support, providing frontline help and essential services and to mitigate the impact of COVID-19. Civil society organisations and grassroot initiatives provided food, personal protection equipment and essential sanitary items, often filling the gap when public administration was slow to respond. Its aim is to show the changes in the scale of migration and the socio-economic situation of migrants. The text uses the available statistical data, reports and research results. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on migrations turned out to be relatively small, especially in the statistical dimension. The inhibition of immigration was temporary, while the number of Polish citizens abroad decreased. The pandemic affected the socioeconomic situation of migrants more than the size of the displacements. Due to limited language competences and familiarity with Polish institutions, difficulties in accessing the labor market and social services were felt more strongly by them, especially by those staying in Poland for the shortest time and outside the labor market. Despite pessimistic forecasts, Poland went unscathed by the pandemic crisis, which is the general conclusion of the article. This is evidenced both by economic data and market statistics. The first part of the article focuses on the economic background of the changes. The second one diagnoses the state of the Polish labor market, which is the main subject of the article. It is aimed at showing the complexity of the adaptation process in response to the sudden change in the organization of key areas of life of the family members, as well as the features of the family that shape its unique ability to adapt to a crisis situation. Staniszewski","doi":"10.33896/spolit.2022.65.3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33896/spolit.2022.65.3","url":null,"abstract":"The article conducts a multidimensional diagnosis of the state of the Polish economy after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. The author assessed the impact of the pandemic on the situation of enterprises and Polish households. The reference to the analysis are above mentioned such variables as: gross domestic product (GDP), CPI/HICP inflation, domestic demand, retail sales of goods, registered unemployment rate, consumer situation (BWUK, WWUK), economic situation, bankruptcy proceedings, restructuring proceedings, etc. The issues raised in the article have been grouped into four thematic blocks, i.e.: 1) the restrictiveness of the policy of the government of Mateusz Morawiecki at individual stages (waves) of the pandemic, 2) the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on key economic indicators, 3) the impact of the pandemic on indicators regarding the perception of the economic and consumer situation, 4) the social perception of the impact of the pandemic on the standard of living of Poles, the perception of the government of Mateusz Morawiecki and the actions taken by it concerning economic restrictions. This part is based on the results of the public opinion poll Opinion of Poles on the activities of the government of Mateusz Morawiecki during the coronavirus pandemic, which was carried out under the direction of the author in May 2021. The fields of analysis selected in this way also included issues such as deficits persisting after the end of treatment or the health consequences of lifestyle changes as a result of restrictions related to the pandemic or the transition to a remote work/study. An important thread of reflection is also the impact of the pandemic on the psyche of Poles in relation to specific socio-demographic features.
