The case of the Visegrad countries Capital cities are unique for being not only the centres of power but also the symbolic representatives of the nation and epicentres of national identity. The changes follo wing the year 1989 brought unprecedented development of all four capital cities in the Visegrad group. They have not only altered the cities ’ appearance and mode of go vernance but they also resulted in greater diversity within the population structure, in people ’ s attitudes as well as in their relationship to their capital city. Although the transformations that these cities underwent share many similarities, each city is unique and possesses its distinctive genius loci. The following study is based on qualitative research among the city elite representatives and references also number of findings from previous ISSP quantitative studies. The aim of the study is to compare four Visegrad group capitals in terms of the relation to the capital and reflection of its identity and image as a national and cultural centre of the country and as an actor shaping national identity. Furthermore, the paper draws attention to the expected dif- ferences between the capital city population and the rest of the country in terms of tolerance, openness and values. The data for the study was obtained in the focus group research conducted with the city elite representatives in each capital.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70011387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using botanical and geological data, historical maps, field survey and radiocarbon dating, we have reconstructed the location, character and initial area of a his- torical wetland, evidenced by abovementioned taxa, but also controlling factors which had determined its existence. Human - dependent fen - meadows habitat, probably with a plant community of Caricetum goodenowii , began to decline upon draining in 1890s and eventually fell victim to urban development. Palaeoecological record from a small forest wetland – remnant of former marsh at the margin of Horský park (= renowned urban forest) – has documented a relatively young age and co - alluvial character of deposits, although the examined 80 cm deep core extends back to the 17 th century. Intensity, structure, and spatial patterns The article aims to observe and compare the divorce rates from 1991 up to the present in Czechia and Slovakia. In this paper, we place emphasis primarily on the analysis of intensity indicators of divorce rates at the national and subnational level in both countries. The most accurate intensity indicators to be considered are the total divorce rate (per person) and the total divorce rate. The data for the analysis was obtained from the databases of the Czech and Slovak statistical offices. The output of the ana lysis points to the conclusion that, despite changes over time, in Czechia and Slovakia there is a certain convergence in the values of the intensity of divorces. It is also pos-sible to see a striking form of the development of divorce trends in both countries. At the regional level, it can be stated that while in the case of the total divorce rate there is a reduction of disparities between regions in both countries, the variability of di- vorce intensity (i.e., the total divorce rate) decreased in Czechia, whereas in Slovakia this variability became more evident over time.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70011290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, the relationship between the child and the environment is interpreted through the perspective of Gibson ́s affordances – an approach that has been employed many times since it appeared in different spatial contexts. Affordances are interactions/relationships between humans and the object or human and its environment. This research is focused on a housing estate in the Czech Republic in Brno. A non-participant covert observation was the main research method. Heft’s functional taxonomy of children’s affordances has been applied as a tool to classify these interactions and they are later confronted with the proposed variation in the taxonomy. The study includes modifications to the original taxonomy, adding a category (snow) and merging another (water). Other influences on children’s affordances are adults (caretakers) and temporality as well as child body size, as the spectrum of active affordances differs between bigger and smaller children.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70011593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The natural movement of the population of the country today, and in the near future, serves as a leading factor in the effective implementation of the process of reproduction of labour resources. According to the content and essence, the re-establishment of the labour resources is narrower than the re-establishment of the population and it is reflected in the recovery of the number and quality of the economically active population, as well as in the recovery of mental and physical abilities. It has been shown that the demographic situation and demographic development of the regions, on the basis of scientific analysis, are due to the fact that the exact labour resources and the economically active population do not differ significantly in terms of age, sex and territorial composition within the Republic. Furthermore, attempts have also been made to reveal the use of labour resources, employment and its structure of sectors, the problems of employment in men and women and their geographical features. Changes in the population and its employment rate, the share of labour resources in the total population, employment, and labour productivity coefficients of young people, the situation of the economically active population and its dynamics over the past 20 years were analyzed and diagnosed by using comparison and statistical methods.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70011669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used the SAW (Simple additive weighting), AHP (Analytical hierarchy process) and TOPSIS (Technique for the order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution) methods to evaluate the alternatives in seven cadastral areas of the Upper Myjava and Teplica river basins. Economic, social, environmental, and technical criteria were chosen based on literature research. We compared the current situation (A0), alternatives proposed by watercourse administrators (A1), endangered inhabitants (A2), alternatives based on previous flood risk research (A3) and a combination of the previous (A5-A7). Most expensive alternatives include building new water structures, alternatives with lectures had the highest social impact and none of the alternatives had a significant effect on the environment. With three different sets of weights, we obtained 9 sets of results. In most cases, A3 was in the first place as the best alternative for flood risk reduction. With the TOPSIS method, the results were different. In cadastral areas where seven alternatives were compared, the A5 or A7 get first place. At the same time, we analysed the methods of selecting the most suitable alternative by watercourse managers, which showed a few shortcomings.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70011731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This material gradually decomposes into recognizable layers of OHFS: litter, duff-1 and duff-2. Different soil water retention (SWR) can be expected from different layers of the OHFS. The determination of SWR was performed on the Tempe cells and pressure plate apparatus. We analyzed the SWR in the layers litter, duff-1, duff-2 of the OHFS. Statistically significant differences between all three examined layers of forest soil were examined. The analysis of the individually determined soil water retention curves (SWRC) proved that the litter layer of the OHFS had a maximal SWR at a water potential close to zero and a minimal value was estimated for the duff-2 layer. According to the results of our experiment the SWR decreases with the increasing depth of the organic horizon in the order litter>duff-1>duff-2. We determined potential areas with geographically similar conditions for the creation of the OHFS for SWR as in the study area.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48073923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While there is no shortage of knowledge surrounding the legacies of large-scale sports events, little is known about the smaller competitions. The authors seek to fill this gap by establishing a profile of the spectators attending the 2018 World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships, hosted in Tomaszów Mazowiecki (Poland). The results were gathered from 349 intercept survey questionnaires. Over half of the respondents were from the host city or the region. The majority were women. The event attractiveness, uniqueness and novelty, including the venue were the main reasons for attendance. The respondents' willingness to attend a similar event in the future was another key finding. The conclusion and recommendations focus on the need for further research into the motives of those attending small-scale indoor, international age-group winter sports events.","PeriodicalId":35652,"journal":{"name":"GEOGRAFICKY CASOPIS-Geographical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70011463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
