Vibration signals and friction of an IC engine were measured under motored condition. To analyze the vibration signals, time-domain and frequency- domain methods were used. The results showed that the second harmonic of the fundamental frequency was dominant at some engine speeds. The engine friction demonstrated an increasing trend with the speed rise. In order to find a relation between the engine vibration and friction, three different characteristics were extracted from the vibration signals. A procedure based on ANN was also proposed to estimate the engine friction using the vibration signals. Firstly, the mathematical model of reentry RLV with loss of actuator effectiveness fault is presented. Then, a novel control algorithm is provided for stable control in both faulty and fault-free situations. Based on adaptive control theory, an adaptive fault tolerant control (AFTC) algorithm is proposed, which removes the conventional assumption of the known upper bound of disturbances. Further, both of the control algorithms were proved stable according to Lyapunov stability theory. In the end, by taking input limitation and chattering into considerations, a numerical example of X-33 is presented to validate the effectiveness of AFTC scheme. The safety of nuclear power plant is thus an important issue. Due to the harmful effects of radiation to human body, robots are used when and where the radiation level in the plant is high. Thus study of the radiation effects on robots, especially on the critical components of robots becomes an urgent issue. In this paper, we investigate the impact of the radiated lithium-ion battery to mobile robots. Mobile robots especially visual tracking guided robot can be used to perform multiple tasks in a nuclear environment. Under radiation, the lithium-ion battery will degrade in terms of capacity, which means if the battery is used as a normal battery, the mobile robot will not perform satisfactorily. We first present the result on the battery degradation due to radiation. Then we study the impact to the robot if it is powered by a radiated battery. The performance of the robot is evaluated under two different conditions, before and after the radiation, and by three different experiments. Number of experimental and analytical works is available in the literature for prediction of fatigue crack growth (FCG). The experimental results are developed by extensive experiments on a material. The analytical models are based on some material constants and are valid only under certain conditions. To use these analytical models for prediction of fatigue crack growth, one has to perform experiments to know the material constants. There is a need of a quantitative predictive method which may predict FCG for a range of materials with available material properties. In this paper, FCG rate data available in the literature have been used to make an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based model to predict Fatigue Crack Growth Rate (FCGR) for different materials at different R-ratio. With the help of neural network fitting of data can be achieved without making prior assumptions about the relationship to which the data are fitted. The aim was to study FCGR of different metal alloys like Steel alloy, Aluminium alloy and Titanium alloy for providing the FCG rate and the effect of load ratio (R) on these materials with known low cycle fatigue and other mechanical properties. The effect of overload was also studied for aluminium alloys like AA7020-T6 and AA2024-T3 by using ANN with Bayesian Regularization algorithm. There is usually contradiction between enlargement of measuring interval and improvement of measuring precision. In this paper, a three- wavelength interference measurement system for surface topography based on wavelength switch and phase shift scanning is proposed. A data processing method for three- wavelength interference images is proposed, which use the phase extraction and recognition algorithm based on elliptic fitting and combined size scales of phase difference. The method can effectively improve the overall precision of surface topography measurement and expand measuring interval to nearly 27 times that of single wavelength 640 nm. Experimental results have shown that the relative measurement error of surface roughness of square wave specimen with multiple grooves is only 4.1% compared to the calibrated data which is produced by China National Institute of Metrology. The results show that under the casting temperature is 680°C, the injection pressure is 120MPa and the mold preheating temperature is 200°C, the casting almost has no shrinkage porosity by carrying out two times of pressure on the most of the bottom of the box.
