To research the impact of deficit irrigation, nitrogen fertilization and soil mulching on the productivity of maize water. Then, using such results, the AquaCrop model was validated by various statistical indicators such as determination coefficient(R 2 ), normalized root means square error (NRMSE), degree of agreement (D) and efficiency (E). Results showed that under different irrigation regimes, nitrogen fertilization levels and mulching application in the North Delta, AquaCrop software was able to simulate well the crop water productivity (WP). Where R2, NRMSE, D and E were respectively0.88,0.36, 0.98 and 0.99 percent under non-saline soil conditions (Sakha location) values. While, under saline soil conditions, such values were 0.85, 16.5, 0.62 and 0.87 % for R 2 , NRMSE, D and E respectively. Data also, showed that, under non saline soil, the highest value of WP was obtained by irrigation at 40 days after post planting irrigation, then irrigation at 80 % depletion from soil available water, non-limiting nitrogen fertilization and using plastic mulching. While, under saline soil conditions, irrigation at 30 days after post planting irrigation, then irrigation at 60 % depletion from soil available water, near optimal nitrogen fertilization and plastic mulching gave the best value of WP.

The irrigation water quality index (IWQI) was calculated in this research to classify surface water of some irrigation canals northwest of Nile delta, Egypt. For this purpose, 14 sites distributed within study area were selected to take water samples during October 2019. ArcGIS (10.4.1) spatial Analyst extension was used to produce high accuracy maps. The IWQI spatial distribution within the study area shows that, samples fell into four classes, low restriction (LR) moderate restriction (MR) High restriction (HR) severe restriction (SR) with an area 178,138, 92 and 249, Km2 respectively. The area of SR water quality would be sited in the northeast and southwest in resultant of increase the EC, SAR, (Na+) and (Cl-) ions in this direction. The descending order of water restriction use in the study area is SR˃ LR˃ MR ˃ HR. Thus, most of surface water in the study area (73%) may avoided its use for irrigation under ordinary conditions. It should be used with high permeability soil and with plants that appear high resistance for salinity with special salinity control practices.

The study area is located at the western side of the Nile-Delta in the east of Cairo-Alexandria desert highway adjacent to the Rashid branch of the River Nile, Menoufia governorate, Egypt. The integration of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques was used to achieve this work. \u0000The geomorphic map produced by processing and identifying the Landsat image using RS and GIS technology indicated that, the studied area has three main geomorphic units with different landforms. These three main units are 1) Alluvial Plain includes three landforms namely: High Terraces (17.33% of the studied area), Moderate Terraces (5.87%) and Low Terraces (11.48%); 2) Pediplain with two landforms namely: High Terraces (16.22 %) and Low Terraces (12.47%); 3) as well as Aeolian Plain with three landforms namely: High Terraces (7.08%), Moderate Terraces (4.97%) and Low Terraces (24.58%). \u0000Nineteen soil profiles were chosen to represent the different geomorphic and landform units. The land and site features are observed and registered. Thesoil profiles were dug, morphologically described, and then samples were collected representing the subsequent layers in each profile for integrated physical and chemical analyses. Also, irrigation water samples were collected and analyzed especially for land capability evaluation. \u0000The studied area has almost flat to slightly undulated topography. Soils were deep to very deep where they were well drained. Most of the soils have gravely sand to gravely loamy sand texture except the soils of low Alluvial plain terraces that have clay loam texture. \u0000The analytical data revealed that, the studied soils are slightly to moderately alkaline, mostly non-saline and haven’t sodicity effect. Few parts showed a sodic horizon feature. The soils are slightly to moderately calcareous having Low gypsum and Organic matter contents. \u0000Most of the soils haven't any diagnostic horizons, therefore they were classified under Entisols. The few soils having sodic horizon were classified under Aridisols. \u0000The land capability evaluation indicated that, most of the studied soils (92.18%) are affiliated to the Fair, C3 class. Rest of the soils are classified either as a Good capability class, C2, (4.52%), or as a Poor capability class, C4 (3.30%).

The soil was cultivated with rice crop (Oryza sativa L.) during two summer seasons 2018 and 2019. The impact of lateral drain spacing at 20m and 40m between laterals (main plots) with controlled drainage (CD) at 0.4, 0.8m depth and uncontrolled drainage at 1.2m below soil surface (sub plots) was studied to evaluate soil-water properties, Nitrate losses, water saving, rice productivity and economic return under rice crop cultivation. \u0000Results showed that the relative groundwater depth values (RGWD) are inversely proportional to the drain spacing treatments. The highest values of drainable porosity (0.145 and 0.141%) were achieved in the plots subjected to 20 m drain spacing with uncontrolled treatment, while the lowest values ( 0.1 and 0.101%) were obtained at 40m drain spacing with 0.4m controlled drainage in both seasons, respectively. \u0000It's clear that narrow drain spacing of 20m and water table depth at 0.4m was more efficient than the wider drain spacing at 40m in reducing values of soil salinity, SAR and bulk density compared with its values before installation of drainage system. On the other, hand it gave the highest values for water saving, nitrate saving, productivity of irrigation water, rice yields, net return, net income from water unit, economic efficiency compared to wider drain spacing (40 m) with 1.2 m ground water depth. The controlled drainage reduced drainage outflow compared to conventional drainage. It can be concluded that the treatment of controlled drainage gave more profit than the uncontrolled one.

The experiments were lay out in a split plot (SP) design with three replicates. The main plots were occupied with three different types of soils (clay, calcareous and sandy soils), sub plots were devoted to soil amendments i.e T1: control, T2: sulphur (1.50 Mg ha-1), T3: biochar (5 Mg ha-1) and T4: sulphur (1.50 Mg ha-1) + biochar (5 Mg ha-1). Results indicated that application of sulphur or biochar and individually and in combination led to an increase in available N, P, K, cation exchange capacity, total porosity, organic matter, exchangeable Ca, Mgand K while EC, pH, bulk density and soil hydraulic conductivity high significantly decreased in sandy and calcareous soils. On the contrary, soil hydraulic conductivity high significantly increased by different treatments in the clay soil. Grain and straw yields as well as N, P and K concentration and uptake of wheat and soybean were high significantly increased by all application sulphur and biochar. Consequently the improvement of soil types on all properties can be arranged in the following order sandy soil < calcareous soil < clay soil.
