Material and methods: Forty male Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups, with 8 rats per group. In the control group, 1 ml/kg 0.9% sterile saline solution; in the second group, 100 mg/kg dose of 5-FU; in the third group, 5 mg/kg dose of cisplatin; in the fourth group, 15 mg/kg dose of MTX; in the fifth group, 15 mg/kg dose of ADR were injected once a day for three consecutive days intra-peritoneally. In all groups, SMGs were excised, histopathological analyses were done using a light microscope, and total protein content was analyzed according to Lowry method. Data were examined using analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey HSD, Kruskal-Wallis, and Dunn’s tests. Results were evaluated at 95% confidence interval and significance level of p < 0.05. Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in gland weight and total protein content of the 5-FU, ADR, and cisplatin groups compared to that of the control ( p < 0.001). However, the decrease in gland weight and total protein content of MTX group was not statistically significant ( p > 0.05). Acinus areas of 5-FU, ADR, cisplatin, and MTX groups were lower than that of the control significantly ( p < 0.001). Conclusions: According to morphological parameters of our study, the most toxic effects were found to be caused by 5-FU, followed by ADR and cisplatin, while MTX presented the least toxic effects on the rats’ SMGs.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71126212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the shortand long-term effects of trigger point injections of BoNT/A in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. Material and methods: The study included 17 individuals aged 19-57 years (mean, 33 years), with 2 years of follow-up records. Visual analogue scale (VAS), pressure-pain threshold (PPT), and maximum mouth opening (MMO) were applied to evaluate pain and dysfunction. Mood and sleep quality were assessed using Beck’s depression inventory (BDI) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). All evaluations were repeated before (T0) as well as at 4 weeks (T1), 6 months (T2), and 2 years (T3) after BoNT/A injection. Results: VAS score was lower at all 3 post-injection time points compared to T0 (p < 0.001). Significant increases in PPT and MMO measurements were also observed at T1, T2, and T3 compared to T0. BDI scores were significantly reduced at T1 and T2 compared to T0 (p < 0.05). PSQI decreased significantly between T0 and T1 (p < 0.001), but increased at T3 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: BoNT/A injections are an effective treatment alternative that relieve myofascial pain and mouth opening restriction, and subsequently improve quality of life in both the shortand long-term.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71126058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Telehealth is an opportunity for patients to stay connected with dentists or doctors. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the respondents’ knowledge, practice, attitude, and barriers related to telehealth. Material and methods: Cross-sectional studies with snowball sampling were conducted among Indonesian society, with a criteria of being aged 18 years and over and not medical staff. Sample size obtained included 320 participants, who were requested to complete an online questionnaire about their socio-economic status, knowledge, and practice questions with yes and no answer option. Questions on attitudes and barriers were included in 5-point Likert scale. Results: The study showed an inter-class correlation coefficient (ICC) score of questionnaires that indicated good (0.671) and excellent agreement (0.839). A total of 429 respondents were willing to completed the questionnaire via a Google form. Most of the respondents were women (72%), aged 18-29 years (73.3%), with non-college education (59%), and living in Java Island (71.6%). More than 50% of respondents had never read or heard about telemedicine and teledentistry. Most of them agreed about the simplicity of contacting a dentist or doctor and the convenience of using telehealth. Conclusions: Although most of the respondents did not hear, read, and use telehealth, most respondents’ attitude towards the use of teledentistry or telemedicine was positive and had no barrier. Objectives: The aim of the review was to investigate the causes and types of treatments available in scientific literature. Material and methods: This literature review evaluated main clinical aspects and rehabilitative treatments for combination syndrome. PubMed and Scopus databases were used with studies published until May 2021. Clinical trials, randomized and non-randomized studies, classic and comparative investigations, multicenter and in-vivo studies, case reports, longitudinal studies, and literature reviews were all included in this review. Results: Various studies have shown that anterior maxilla atrophy is the most commonly seen clinical feature; however, other features of the syndrome have not been observed in any patient. In oral rehabilitation, the use of implants mainly in the posterior region of the mandible, ensured greater occlusal balance, new bone formation in the peri-implant region, and decreased excessive compression of the anterior region of the maxilla. Conclusions: Clinical evaluation of the causes that resulted in deformities between alveolar bones and rehabili-tating these regions to offer a better distribution of forces and quality of life to patients is essential.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71126477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
