Material and methods: A questionnaire consisting of COVID-19 and dental procedures was filled by patients applied to dental faculty. Data were evaluated using Pearson's χ2 test. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 403 patients (248 females/155 males) participated in the present study. Toothache, abscess, and impacted tooth (27.8%) were the main reasons for the participants to apply to the hospital, followed by caries and filling (22.3%). Most of the participants (52.5%) did not hesitate to go to the dentist, but 60.8% of them postponed their treatment during the pandemic. More than half of the patients (56.1%) thought that dental procedures were risky in terms of COVID-19 transmission. The younger age group was less hesitant compared with the middle ages (p < 0.05). High school (65.7%) and university (58.7%) graduates believed that the risk of COVID-19 transmission from dental procedures was higher than in other groups (p < 0.05). Vaccinated individuals were statistically more hesitant of going to the dentist than those who were not vaccinated (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that toothache, abscess, and impacted tooth were the first reasons for applying to the dental hospital. Most of the patients stated that they hesitated to go to the dentist and postponed their treatments during the pandemic. Patients with higher education levels had a higher rate of vaccination. © 2022 Polish Dental Association.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71127509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the ceramic bond strength with metallic sub-structure made of chro-mium-cobalt alloy and fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) technique after applying different surface treatments. Material and methods: 40 metallic strips of Co-Cr alloy manufactured by SLM technique were divided into two main groups, A and B, which were again divided into 4 sub-groups as follows: A1 – natural surface roughness maintained ( n = 10); A2 – natural roughness with a bonding agent application ( n = 10); B1 – sandblasted surface ( n = 10); B2 – sandblasted surface with a bonding agent application ( n = 10). A surface roughness measuring test was carried out to obtain Ra-Rz values. Three-point bending test according to ISO 9693 standards was performed to determine the metal-ceramic bond strength in MPa. Fracture failure mode was determined by using an optical microscope. Results: Student’s t -test was used to compare among the mean bond strengths of sub-groups, with a significant difference observed only between A1 and A2 and between A2 and B2 sub-groups. Mann-Whitney test was applied to compare among the mean ranks of the failure modes, with a significant difference noticed only between A1 and A2 sub-groups. Conclusions: The bond strength in all the studied sub-groups exceeded the required minimum 25 MPa, according to ISO 9693 standards. The bonding agent had a minor effect when applied on sandblasted surfaces, while it had an important effect when applied on a natural surface roughness.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71126263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Beside the limited number of clinical trials evaluating their effectiveness on modulating pain perception, no clinical trial has reported a comparison of these two methods. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of vibration and ultrasound on pain perception alleviation, and to compare the efficacy of both interventions given that no previous study has investigated these aspects. Material and methods: The research sample consisted of 36 patients, who were randomly assigned into three equal groups (vibration group, ultrasound group, and control group). After elastomeric separator placement, two interventional groups were requested to apply vibration and ultrasound for 5 minutes twice-daily on each upper first molar, whilst control group was not subjected to any physical stimulus. In conjunction with this procedure, a pain assessment questionnaire was distributed to all patients, and a daily assessment by visual analogue scale (VAS) was carried out for 5 days since separators placement. Results: Subjects in vibration group had lower pain scores at all time-points with significant decrease of pain at the first, fourth, and fifth days of application, compared with ultrasound and control groups. No significant differences were noted between ultrasound and control groups among all observational time-points. Conclusions: Five-minutes, twice-daily application of vibration contributes to the reduction of pain associated with elastomeric separator placement, and could be a suitable method for pain control in the daily orthodontics practice.","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71126328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Europe, it represents 50% of activities in medical tourism. Many dentists in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia decide to engage in dental tourism. Objectives: The aim of this research was to collect and analyze data on dental students’ perception of this phenomenon in these three countries. Material and methods: The study was conducted online in the form of an anonymous 20-question survey questionnaire. In total, 326 students participated in the survey. Data was processed using Microsoft Excel 2010 (MS Office, 2010) and Statistica (Tibco, v. 13.5.0.17, 2018) programs. Correlation coefficients were calculated by using Spearman rank test Results: The results showed that the majority of students had a positive opinion about dental tourism and that they perceived it as a profitable activity that positively affects the quality of dental work in their countries. Almost half of the students were not aware of problematic ethical aspects of dental tourism. Despite the current poor prospects due to the decline in dental tourism due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant proportion of students still have plans to engage in dental tourism in the future. Conclusions: The results showed that dental students perceived dental tourism as a positive phenomenon. Most of them said that dental tourism was a desirable career choice. Furthermore, it showed that dental students need better and more comprehensive education on ethical issues related to dental tourism. © 2022 Polish Dental Association","PeriodicalId":35469,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71126624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
