It is paradoxical because semiotics deals with all aspects of meaning; it is relevant to every field of inquiry (Posner et al. 2003) and is applicable to everyday experiences producing meaning. Yet, it is not an established field in most academic systems, and it lacks full recognition in the disciplinary ‘market’ (Rastier 2001). This paper discusses a particular aspect coming from a larger study carried out with 40 semiotics scholars in 12 countries in 3 languages (English, French and Spanish). I will focus on the construction and development of a prevailing discourse that intends to convey the practitioners’ own subjective experiences of living and working in a marginalised field.","PeriodicalId":354532,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic Frontiers","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126674266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primary goal is the reflection of the scientific methods and models of scientific explanations (Köhler 1986, 2012) used in quantitative linguistics. The paper shows that the current philosophy of science has adopted some new approaches to ex-planation that are conducive to quantitative linguistics (Craver, Darden 2013, Eck, Mennes 2016). Above all, the philosophy of science offers new models of non-causal explanations (Reutlinger, Saatsi 2018; Lange 2017). The paper’s primary goal is to propose a new topo-logical model of explanation in system-theoretical linguistics, following Kostić’s (2019a) and Huneman’s (2018) approaches. This model of explanation overcomes various difficul-ties of functional explanation, such as the nature of the structural axiom and the func-tional equivalents. Simultaneously, it establishes a non-causal form of linguistic explana-tion which builds on the previous analysis of quantitative linguists (Andres 2009; Ferrer-i-Cancho, Solé 2003; Hřebíček 2002).","PeriodicalId":354532,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic Frontiers","volume":"40 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121301675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

De nombreux scientifiques commencent à repenser leur domaine par le prisme des grandes théories comme le darwinisme, formulé en 1859 dans De l’origine des espèces. On remarque dès la moitié du XIXe siècle la volonté d’utiliser les savoirs et outils offerts par les sciences naturelles dans le cadre des sciences humaines, notamment la littérature. Plusieurs auteurs commencent ainsi à chercher à théoriser un nouveau type de critique littéraire qui serait basé sur une démarche purement scientifique. Nous chercherons ici à étudier l’influence des théories darwiniennes sur la théorie de l’évolution des genres proposée par Ferdinand Brunetière, plus particulièrement dans son ouvrage L’évolution des genres dans l’histoire de la littérature, issu de leçons données à l’Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris en 1889.","PeriodicalId":354532,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic Frontiers","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131601397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aussi son objet ne pouvait-il être que phénomène soustrait à l’éphémère et à l’insondable subjectivité. Pour le dire en d’autres mots, la linguistique prenait pour objet les moyens du dire dans la langue plutôt que dans l’esprit du sujet parlant. Ce faisant, la linguistique s’arrêtait à la limite de la science de l’homme, là où la philosophie et la métaphysique investiguaient alors. This simplicity is treated differently depending on the theories: proof that the present tense is whithout temporality or that it contains a \"zero\" morpheme that explains its value. Our study shows that the simplicity of the present tense is that in reality there are many and frequent forms specific not on the suffix inflection but on the stem.","PeriodicalId":354532,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic Frontiers","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127832121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Les développements de cette dernière permettent de mieux comprendre la visée du « psychologisme » de Saussure. Cet arrière-fond conceptuel explicite l’origine et la portée de certains concepts-clés saussuriens : l’arbitraire du signe linguistique; le « signifiant » saussurien en tant « représentation du son »; la relation signifié/signifiant conçue comme « recto-verso d’une feuille de papier »; le modèle saussurien du signe linguistique. Ces éléments, déterminants pour sa portée et son influence, se rattachent aux développements de la psychologie de cette période : l’hétérogénéité constitutive du « Moi » tel qu’il est défini par Herbart et son école; la distinction entre l’acte de représenter (Vorstellen) et l’objet représenté (Vorgestellt) conçus respectivement comme une détermination ontologique et comme expression de la représentation; l’aperception; la notion de « représentation verbale » (Wortvorstellung) telle qu’elle a été successivement élaborée par la psychologie de la conscience au cours du XIXème siècle et résumé par W.
