The research involved footballers of the fi rst squad of Korona Kielce (n = 12),footballers of the second squad of Korona Kielce (n = 21), students of the Jagiellonian University participating ina football tournament (n = 25) and seminarians from the John Paul II University in Krakw (n = 25). The Athlete Adaptation Styles Questionnaire allowed to obtain data on the preferred styles of adaptation in individuals from theabove-mentioned groups. Sport is a multifaceted and colourful phenomenon of social life. It has inspired numerous writers all overthe world, including Great Britain the motherland of football and many other sports disciplines. As Alexis Tadi(2014b, p. 7) puts it, literature often conceptualises the place and role of sport in culture and society. As such, itdefinitely makes us understand sport better. Selected authors attitudes to football and their works are discussedin the first parts of the paper. The main aim of the publication is to analyze one of the most intriguing books depicting fascination with football,Fever Pitch, written by Nick Hornby. Football, as portrayed here, is far more than ordinary form of entertainment. It isshown as a broadly understood cultural phenomenon, having a great potential of shaping peoples lives. The bookturned out to have an enormous impact both on fans, writers and fi lmmakers. The examination is largely based onliterary and historical sources (poetry volumes, novels, memoirs, press articles) and required familiarizing oneselfwith publications devoted to the historical presence of sport in literature.

The questionnaire applied was prepared in\u0000an electronic form, which was posted on football fans’ groups using the Facebook network. Two statistical methods\u0000were also used in this study: the chi-square test (Pearson test) and the analysis of variance (Anova).\u0000Research results. Individual groups of football fans are characterized by diff erent levels of aggressive behavior.\u000071.7% of respondents have never participated in organized “battles. The highest percentage of people who do not\u0000participate in the battles (94.6%) occurs in “the picnics” one. “The hooligans” are the group in which only 33.3% of\u0000respondents do not declare aggressive behavior. The rest of them behaves aggressively (51%) or very aggressively\u0000(15.7%), participating in the battles many times. Based on the calculation of the own study results, it can be concluded that aggressive or very aggressive behaviours do not aff ect a high level of satisfaction with life.\u0000Conclusions indicate that high involvement in the supporter movement can be in line with declarations of high\u0000life satisfaction.
