However, neglect is a complex issue, and professionals may lack the necessary skills and expertise to handle cases effectively. Further, communication barriers between professionals from different agencies can lead to misunderstandings, inconsistencies in response, and missed opportunities for early intervention. The absence of nationally recognised tools for early identification of neglect makes it challenging to respond effectively. Currently, professionals rely on tools that require professionals to have already identified concerns and be engaging with the parents. In response, the Multi Agency Checklist tool was developed to enable routine screening across all age groups by any professional. The tool has been shared across safeguarding children's partnerships in Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.","PeriodicalId":354264,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Child Health","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114265413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article is the first in a series of three investigating the role of social media, health mis/information and children. It provides an overview of social media and its prevalence among children and young people in the UK. Increasingly, young people are obtaining health information from social media and there are concerns about the possibility that children and young people could be vulnerable to health misinformation in these user-generated content platforms. However, it is also important to recognise the perceived benefits of these information sources for children and young people.","PeriodicalId":354264,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Child Health","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121046397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study took a pragmatic approach. A purposive sample of 20 school nurses participated across ten virtual focus groups and one-to-one interviews. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Four overarching themes were identified: the impact and legacy of COVID-19 on children and families' health; the rapid restructure of service delivery; workforce challenges; the school nurse profile before, during, and after the pandemic. Recommendations are made for considered use of virtual modes to enhance rather than replace in-person practice, building a robust evidence base that can inform future commissioning, clear guidance regarding the boundaries of school nursing practice in the context of increasing workloads, investing in the school nurse workforce going forwards.","PeriodicalId":354264,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Child Health","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121213075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2018, the James Lind Alliance acknowledged developing CAMHS waiting-list interventions (WLI) as a top 10 priority. This study aimed to examine the current provision of WLI in CAMHS. During 2021, an online survey was sent to each National Health Service (NHS) trust providing CAMHS in England, to explore provision of WLI within their trust. Of the 57 CAMHS trusts identified as meeting inclusion criteria, survey responses were received from 16 trusts, 12 of which had implemented WLI, a large proportion of these were digital interventions. Barriers and facilitators to WLIs were identified, particularly availability of staff. WLIs are being used in some trusts but with limited evidence of evaluation, further research on the acceptability and effectiveness of WLI is warranted.","PeriodicalId":354264,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Child Health","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121243391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Childhood obesity reduces physical and mental health, social and education outcomes, and quality of life, all of which can last into adulthood. To explore if childhood obesity is a societal safeguarding concern. A systematic literature search, using the following keywords: obese* child* safeguard*, child protection, BMI, adolescen* and youth. was employed using electronic databases. Substantial numbers of children are not meeting recommendations on daily physical activity, compounded by increased screen time. Current family therapies and lack of collaboration between services are not able to address childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is a societal multi-factorial safeguarding issue, requiring a holistic, collaborative approach. This could include bespoke collaborative interventions to increase self-determination in families throughout lifespan and protection of open and green spaces in education settings, for example.","PeriodicalId":354264,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Child Health","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125439304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
