The developed system acquires EMG signals from the sub-vocal region and suitable features are extracted using time-frequency transform such as Wavelet Transform. Once the features are extracted, the final classification is carried out using ensemble decision trees called Random Forests (RF). Giving the randomness in the ensemble of decision trees (DT) stacked inside the RF model, this technique can provide at the recall stage, not only the early assessment of classification, but also a probability outcome which quantifies the confidence level of the decision. The performance accuracy is found to be more than 90% when two features were considered compared to 75% with five features. Thus there is a trade-off between the input features versus the classification accuracy. Thus, the proposed data mining based technique will be highly suitable for developing EMG signal acquisition system used for bio-medical instrumentation.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"447 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131990997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the predication accuracies of the classifiers trained with limited training samples are often very low. Although, the unlabeled samples are relatively inexpensive and readily available, traditional classifiers not generally utilize the distribution of those unlabeled samples. In this context, this article presents a novel `self-training' based semi-supervised classification method using fuzzy K-Nearest Neighbour algorithm which utilizes the unlabeled samples along with the labeled samples to improve the prediction accuracy of the cancer classification. The proposed method is evaluated with a number of microarray gene expression cancer data sets. Experimental results justify the potentiality of the proposed semi-supervised method for cancer classification using microarray gene expression data in comparison to its other supervised counterparts.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125224645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HT end users in Power Distribution System generally involves load having nonlinear characteristics. Most of harmonics are introduced in power distribution system due to load characteristics. Being viruses, harmonics causes pollution in power system, therefore same has to limit to the safe value. This paper presents harmonics measurement at HT end users in power distribution system and verification and comparison with the harmonics limits recommended by IEEE 519-1992. The experimental results shows that safe harmonics limits recommended by IEEE 519-1992 needs to consider the effect of load power factor in fixing the safe harmonic limits.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"265 1-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120893994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Focused objects are treated as decisive objects of an image which helps a user in decision making. The objects in an image are the geometric shapes needed to be identified. Geometric shape of an image depends on the outer edges which are known as contour of that image. The proposed method extracts the contour of decisive objects from an image. Morphological operators empower the proposed method to achieve the goal. The proposal compared with several traditional edges detection techniques with respect to desired output and computation time to ensure its efficiency.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124446524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The expansion in distribution system can be done when the existing demand is increased and/or new demand comes by small incremental steps. But sometimes unplanned expansion may increase the overall cost over a life cycle. Life cycle cost analysis for distribution system planning ensures the minimum expansion cost along with line power loss over the life of the system. Life cycle cost is defined as the total cost which includes purchase cost, fixed cost, depreciation cost, inflation, maintenance cost and all other costs caused at every stage over multistage planning periods. In this work, the life cycle cost has been evaluated for different planning strategies and results are compared. A number of case studies have been presented to show the importance of the analysis.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132073621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So both front-end and back-end engineers are trying to evolve a system with full testability keeping in mind the possibility of reduced product failures and missed market opportunities. BIST is a design technique that allows a system to test automatically itself with slightly larger system size. In this paper, the simulation result performance achieved by BIST enabled UART architecture through VHDL programming is enough to compensate the extra hardware needed in BIST architecture. This technique generate random test pattern automatically, so it can provide less test time compared to an externally applied test pattern and helps to achieve much more productivity at the end.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"308 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124282999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using loss-less data compression techniques Modified Region Based Huffman with code interchange (MRBH) and its variant Modified Region Based Huffman with multiple interchanging of code (MRBHM), encoding of fractal compressed image into final compressed image and decoding of the final compressed image from fractal compressed image are done. The compression ratio, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and compression time are determined for different images. The results show that significant improvement in the compression ratios are achieved in the proposed techniques maintaining PSNRs of images well. But, the proposed techniques are slow than its counterparts.","PeriodicalId":353124,"journal":{"name":"2014 First International Conference on Automation, Control, Energy and Systems (ACES)","volume":"9 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113978314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
