Profiles are very common for nearly all field bus systems for a long period of time. The basic models of these profiles are usually (1) parameter lists with the related behaviour descriptions for example state machines, (2) function block profiles or (3) object based profiles. Common for all of them is that there is a tight coupled connection between the field devices and host devices such as PLCs. Usually there is no direct connection between the field devices. Future automation systems tend to migrate to more distribution among the system components and to more loose coupled paradigm. This paradigm is used in service oriented architectures (SOA) which are mainly applied in business and IT applications. The EU IP SOCRADES intents to build a complete automation system based on SOA. In the framework of this project the mapping of existing profile models to Web services is therefore investigated. The paper presents the migration steps starting from existing model descriptions to an example of a Web service based profile.","PeriodicalId":352963,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131923177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This mechanism prioritizes real-time traffic in IEEE 802.11 networks, allowing the coexistence of standard stations with modified (real-time) stations in the same network domain. The worst-case timing analysis of the TDMA-based mechanism shows that the service interval is upper-bounded, even when the communication medium is shared with timing unconstrained stations.","PeriodicalId":352963,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126633799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Real-time communications that utilize UDP do not ensure reliability for realizing fast transmission. Therefore congestion or failure in a network deteriorates the quality of service significantly. The proposed method seeks an alternate path that hardly overlaps an IP path so as to improve its reliability. The proposed method also detects congestion or failure by differential of packet loss rate and apportion packets to the IP path and the alternate path dynamically. Evaluation on PlanetLab shows the proposed method avoids congestion Consequently the influence of congestion and failure lessens and the proposed multipath routing improves the reliability which can be used for real-time communications.","PeriodicalId":352963,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129708181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The selection of suitable relay nodes is made using distributed algorithms which includes different eligibility tests as well as different priority assignments. The framework improves performance in terms of probability to successfully deliver packets before their deadline and it can be implemented on top of commercial transceivers without modification of the physical layer. In such networked control systems, it is often the case that information on process variables is received out-of-time-order. This paper presents a Bayesian approach to handling this out-of-sequence information problem. Such approach leads to a solution involving the joint probability density of current state and past measurements not yet received. Under linear Gaussian assumptions, the Bayesian solution reduces to an augmented state Kalman filter. Our approach augments the state dynamically based on the list of missing observations. As this solution can be time and memory consuming, two simplified implementations of the algorithm are presented.","PeriodicalId":352963,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130662540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides field buses, which have been traditionally used since long time, both real-time Ethernet (RTE) and wireless networks may now be employed. Consequently, it is envisaged that hybrid configurations using all types of the available communication systems will be even more deployed in the future. In this paper we focus, specifically, on hybrid systems which realize wireless extensions of wired networks. In detail, we address the extension of Ethernet Powerlink, a popular RTE network, by means of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN. We consider two types of extensions based on both bridge and gateway devices. After a discussion concerning the actual implementation of the extensions, we provide some performance figures obtained from both a theoretical analysis and numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":352963,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127676424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The amount of complex information, which is gathered from heterogeneous information stock without significant additional expense, increases notably. At the same time, such a system has to provide a platform for scalable application functions and standard network functionality. Existing asset management tools are focused on single devices while using heterogeneous information sets. This paper describes the development of a network centered asset management system for heterogeneous industrial networks, considering the entire network to be an asset, independent of the specific industrial network.","PeriodicalId":352963,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131795937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
