Generally a model is constructed using various image processing techniques which, depending on the particular area, can be quite complicated. In this paper two conceptually different approaches for determining streamlines from DEM data, in raster and vector forms, are reviewed. The advantages and limitations of both approaches are considered and compared using the numerical results of streamlines for the geometrically complex region containing Khao Luang National Park.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"373 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131879998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of TiO 2 nanoparticles on the non-isothermal and the isothermal crystallization behavior of PLA were investigated by polarized optical microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The presence of TiO 2 nanoparticles decreased the spherulite growth rate of PLA, whereas it initiated faster crystallization through the heterogeneous nucleation process as observed by optical microscopy. The results of DSC analyses confirmed that the TiO 2 nanoparticles act as an efficient nucleating agent for PLA crystallization. The cold crystallization temperature and crystallization half-time of PLA decreased, while degree of crystallinity of PLA increased in relation to increases of TiO 2 nanoparticles.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115698372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies of reaction kinetics performed under transient conditions can lead to savings of time and resources as compared to the conventional steady-state method. This is because a collection of data necessary for extracting the reaction kinetics can be obtained within a single experiment. This research focused on the refinement of TS-CM technique as an efficient tool for reaction kinetics studies. The alkaline hydrolysis of ethyl acetate was used as a model reaction. Different degrees of noise intensity were added to the output signal of NaOH concentration in order to study the effect of noise (0.5, 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0%) and sampling period (1, 30 and 60 seconds) on the accuracy of reaction kinetics. Results revealed that the sampling period of 1 second yielded only slight errors of kinetic parameters compared to that of without noise . The second part dealt with noise filtering. In order to smooth the NaOH concentration data, TS-CM technique was applied with three digital filters: a) the first-order filter or first-order filter, b) the second-order filter or second-order filter and c) the Savitzky-Golay filter. Results showed that the best filter was the Savitzky-Golay, which filtered with 81 points of window size and 2 nd order of polynomial degree.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121658966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The material has a thermal expansion coefficient similar to steel and special grades show Class-A surface quality being thereby an appreciated material in the automotive industry. The mechanical properties of SMC components and thus its implementation in new application fields are mainly limited by the type of fiber and fiber length. The project “Preform-SMC” analyzed the combination of the standard SMC process (chopped long fibers) and the preform technology (textiles) in order to improve the overall performance of components. The studies revealed that the quality of the impregnation of the preform material is mainly determined by the density and thus the filler content of the SMC semi-finished product and the layer structure of the reinforcing fibers. Locally implemented reinforcing textiles improve, by implementing endless fibers among load paths, the mechanical properties. Depending on the fiber type and the layer structure e.g. impact strength and absorbed energy could at least be doubled.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121318463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a prerequisite consequently to understand their mechanical behavior during a pile driving process. Hence, this article is concerned with the observations of mechanical behavior under cyclic loading application, compressive strength, coefficient of restitution, and permanent deformation of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and activated carbon (AC) composites. UHMWPE/AC composites containing 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 wt% of AC concentrations were prepared for accomplishing the aim. Prior to those characterizations, the composites were compression molded under 160oC for various operating times (5 to 40 minutes). As a comparison to UHMWPE, applying AC into UHMWPE matrix significantly reduced the cycle time of the compression molding. Compressive strength at 80% deformation, tangent modulus and coefficient of restitution of UHMWPE were inferior to those properties of UHMWPE/AC composites. In terms of the coefficient of restitution, the coefficient values of composites were obviously higher than UHMWPE’s values. Moreover, the coefficient of restitution at 8,000 N/min of all samples was greater than a represented coefficient from the test at 2,000 N/min. UHMWPE/AC composites with 10 wt% of AC loading provided the best mechanically reversible performance. Experimental results also indicated that the mechanical property enhancement associated with an increase in UHMWPE’s molecular weight, while the creep strain of UHMWPE was affected by the applied amount of AC. Permanent deformation data illustrated that the increasing cycles of compression urged the deterioration as same as the results measured via cyclic compression testing. In overview, UHMWPE/AC composites showed a promise for future opportunities as a viable option in replacing a traditional material for manufacturing a pile cushion pad.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133129428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, it provides high performance as well as the ability to generate very small bubbles. In this research, the controllable bubble size generator, which enables the bubble size to be changed according to the sequence of operations, was devised, and then the performance was investigated. This generator, which is operated with two fluids of air and water, makes bubbles that are divided into smaller bubbles by applying the shear stress with the swirl flow. The generating air bubbles which radiated a light sheet through slit, was taken a picture with the digital camera, and was measured. The relation between the swirl strength and the bubble size/numbers was investigated.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128751367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
