The designs used included total lengths of (L T ) 150, 300 and 450 mm. The evaporator section (L E ), Adiabatic section (L A ) and Condenser section (L C ) lengths were all alike at 50, 100 and 150 mm. The copper and acrylic tubes were of 15 mm external diameter and 12 mm internally. The temperatures applied at the evaporator section (T E ) were 60oC and 80oC. The angles of inclination were 0o, 20o, 40o, 60o, 80o and 90o, and air velocity at the condenser section was 1 m/s. The working fluid used was plain water with a filling ratio of 50% of the evaporator section volume. The experiment showed that as T E increased so did heat flux, however shorter L Ts resulted in lower heat flux, and the maximum heat flux achieved was 5 kW/m 2 at T E 80oC, L E 150 mm, with an angle of inclination at 80o to 90o using acrylic tube in the adiabatic section. When acrylic tube was installed instead of copper tube at L A the resulting thermal resistance (R tube ) Co/W decreased and heat flux increased. The maximum R tube result was recorded at around 2.78Co/W with the acrylic tube of L E 150 mm. with a T E of 80oC.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120998596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is still questioned on under what condition those travelers are able to underpin or diminish the transmission. In this study, we attempt to answer this question with the help of a mathematical model. The basic reproduction number is derived. An analysis showed that the tourists can contribute in epidemic only if the local transmission is closed to the threshold. We apply the analysis to dengue epidemic in Phuket, 2013 and showed that the tourists cannot contribute the emerging of dengue outbreak in that year.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129942083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To obtain experimental results for validation of numerical simulations, a measurement facility, composed from aerodynamics tunnel and wire heater, was designed and constructed. The temperature on the sheets was chosen to observe the effects of different surface structures, airflow conditions and input heat power. Results provided by numerical simulations showed good conformity with experimental results. For investigated cases the hexagonal sheet achieved significantly higher heat transfer intensity and lower surface temperature than the plain sheet under the same conditions.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115754990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stainless steel rod was used as the supporting electrode. XPS and SEM were performed on the surfaces of silver to investigate the changes in surface composition and morphology, revealing the successful formation of silver chloride on the silver layer after the chlorination process. Calibrated against the commercial Ag/AgCl electrode, the developed solid-state Ag/AgCl electrode showed insensitive potentiometric response in different buffer solutions with the response time of 10 s. All-solid-state pH sensor, constructed by integrating the solid-state Ag/AgCl electrode with the polypyrrole-based pH indicative electrode, showed a linear potentiometric sensitivity of –53.55±1.33 mV.pH -1 ( r 2 > 0.99) over pH range of 2–12 with excellent reproducibility. The pH measurement in the selected real solutions was demonstrated, suggesting that the constructed all-solid-state pH sensor showed the comparable sensing performance to the commercial glass pH electrode. The all-solid-state sensor is currently miniaturized for the further use in microfluidics and flow injection analysis system.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115699324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advantages of hazardous and toxic waste incineration cause incinerator business in Indonesian to evolve. Besides, it is triggered by the availability of supporting regulations, such as the Regulation of the State Minister of Environment [1] that allows business people to have licenses to treat hazardous and toxic waste through incinerator. However, the operation of the hazardous and toxic waste incinerator must meet the performance test as regulated by the Government of Indonesia [2], such as destruction removal efficiency (DRE) of principal organic hazardous constituents (POHCs), combustion efficiency, gas residence time, concentration of emitted particulates and heavy metals, HCl and other gaseous pollutants. This paper presents the procedures and results of a case study of the trial burn test (TBT) conducted for the hazardous waste rotary kiln incinerator typically done in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125002941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a useful tool for classifying organisms and gives better results than traditional identification methods based on morphological, metabolic and other phenotypic traits. Pediococcus acidilactici TISTR 2309 is one of the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) that was found in traditional Thai fermented sausages and it has the potential to produce bacteriocin against foodborne Gram positive bacteria, including Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus . Three phylogenetic trees derived from the Maximum Likelihood, Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Pasimony methods, were compared in order to find the relationship of the strains constructed by each method. The results from phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA sequences by these 3 methods indicated that P. acidilactici TISTR 2309 is homogenous to P. acidilactici IMAU60189. However when the same sequence of TISTR 2309 was used as input for search tools of NCBI Blast and ENA, the two databases provided different results of identification and different suggested strains. It was also found that the potential in bacteriocin production of the P. acidilactici TISTR 2309 isolate did not reduce over nine years of laboratory subculture.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114870277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Palm shell activated carbons were immersed in the chitosan solutions at the concentrations between 0.1-2 g/L.The results showed that the impregnation of chitosan onto activated carbons at every concentration under the investigation changed the BET surface areas, pore size distribution, CO 2 adsorption capacity and the CO 2 /H 2 selectivity. The chitosan impregnated activated carbon that was the most suitable for carbon dioxide/hydrogen separation was the one impregnated in the 0.1 g/L chitosan solution yielding 0.12 g chitosan per 100 gram activated carbon. The modified activated carbon was found to have 11% higher CO 2 adsorption capacity than the native activated carbon even though its BET surface area was reduced by 3% due to the impregnation process. From a lab-scale pressure swing adsorption process using the modified activated carbon as the adsorbent (under an adsorption pressure of 4 bar and the feed flow rate of 2 L/min 50-30-20 mixture of CO 2 , H 2 and N 2 for a period of 2 min per cycle), the CO 2 concentration in the effluent was not detected for at least 5 cycles.","PeriodicalId":352801,"journal":{"name":"King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok International Journal of Applied Science and Technology","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116744192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
