Batteries are used for this purpose from more than a century. Use of battery for off grid power supply can increase overall system efficiency, and provide economic savings across the system life cycle. Reliability of power supply from renewable and conventional sources can improve by using battery as energy storage medium. Battery can be charge by using solar energy for use of renewable energy or by power supply for use of conventional energy supply. Different battery shows different voltage and current characteristics when charged by using power supply. This paper outlines the charging and discharging characteristics of Lead acid and Li-ion batteries Experiment was conducted in Solar Lighting Lab at TERI, New Delhi. Though, the conventional vector control algorithm gives good transient and steady state response, the complexity involved is more due to the reference frame transformations. Later, the direct torque control (DTC) was developed with reduced complexity. But, it gives large steady state ripple. Hence, to overcome the drawbacks of vector and DTC algorithms, a simple and novel vector control algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm combines the principles of both control algorithms. The reference currents are calculated based on the vector control. Then, the current error signals will be generated by comparing the actual and reference currents. By using the current error signals, sector information and lookup table, a suitable voltage vector is selected in order to keep the current errors within the hysteresis bands as per the principle of direct torque control. To validate the proposed lookup tables based vector control algorithm, numerical simulation studies have been carried out and compared. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":352711,"journal":{"name":"2014 POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125416389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this present scheme, to get AC power, power conditioning has been proposed in two stages; namely in first stage maximum power will be extracted and in second stage DC power will be converted into AC power. In this research paper conversion topology has been proposed for transformer less PV system and verified its results in MATLAB Simulink which is interfaced with Xilinx system generator. To extract optimum DC power from solar PV modules MPPT charge controller is designed. In this study, constant voltage MPPT charge controller is designed based on small signal analysis of converter with PM=57° and GM=14.7dB. After this charge controller output fed to Multi level inverter for the conversion of dc to ac. Proposed multilevel inverter is offering very low line voltage THDs compared with conventional inverter and observed that they are very low, hence required less size and cost of the filter.","PeriodicalId":352711,"journal":{"name":"2014 POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127129044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the reactive power controls variables are exhausted, then active power controls variables are used to enhance static voltage stability limits. Under heavily stressed condition active power control variables are coupled with the voltage magnitude and system is protected from voltage collapse problem. Minimum eigen value of load flow Jacobian is selected as a proximity indicator. Minimum eigen value of load flow Jacobian is obtained using continuation power flow method. Minimum eigen value of load flow Jacobian has been optimized using Differential Evolution (DE). Developed algorithm accounts inequality constraints not only in present operating conditions (after active power generation rescheduling) but also for predicted next interval generation (with active power generation rescheduling). Proposed methodology has been implemented on IEEE 6-bus test system. Performance of the DE has been compared with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Gradient Search (GS) technique based on statistical inference. Simulation results have been obtained which confirm that the proposed methodology provide considerable mitigation in the active power generation rescheduling.","PeriodicalId":352711,"journal":{"name":"2014 POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121411861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A reaction scheme has been proposed where two parallel reactions occur simultaneously to produce volatiles and char. Kinetic parameters, namely, rate constants, frequency factors, activation energies have been determined through nonlinear regression analysis. Effects of co-pyrolysis temperature have been observed on product yields. The pH value of the oil confirmed that the oil is acidic in nature. The functional groups of the pyro-oil have been analyzed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to identify the basic functional groups. The presence of harmonics in power supply network poses a severe power quality problem that results in greater power losses in the distribution system, interference problems in communication systems and, sometimes, in operation failures of electronic equipment. Shunt active power filters are employed to suppress the current harmonics and reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD). The voltage source inverter (VSI) is the core of an active power filter. The hysteresis current control is a method of controlling the VSI. Hysteresis control can be either of fixed band type or adaptive band type. In this paper, Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory is implemented for the generation of reference current signals for the controller. This paper investigates the effectiveness of the proposed model in harmonics currents mitigation by simulating a model of a three-phase three-wire shunt active power filter based on adaptive hysteresis current control and SRF theory. Simulation results indicate that the proposed active power filter can restrain harmonics of electrical source current effectively.","PeriodicalId":352711,"journal":{"name":"2014 POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131670957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here the grid resistance and inductance are measured during the operation using a non-characteristic frequency current continuously injected into the grid, and subsequently calculating the impedance using discrete Fourier transforms. The proposed measurement is implemented in d-q reference frame so that the computational overhead on the microcontroller is relatively reduced. The continuous injection of non-characteristic current at 75 Hz avoids the injection of inter-harmonics into the grid during measurements. The resulting grid impedance value can be used for many purposes viz. knowing the status of the independent generations in micro-grids, controller tuning in converter systems, islanding detection etc. The proposed dynamic measurement of grid impedance is tested through simulation studies and experimentally. The experiments are conducted with the proposed controller on a scaled down laboratory model of micro-grid with a 1 kVA solar inverter, and the consolidated results of both simulation and experiments are presented.","PeriodicalId":352711,"journal":{"name":"2014 POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122997702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
