Indeed, the platform is to this digital era what the factory was to the industrial era, both a symbol and an organizing mechanism. Gernot Grabher and Jonas Konig (2020) used Karl Polanyi’s analysis of what he termed the “great transformation” to frame the rise of platform economy. The platform economy is remarkable as it confirms Polanyi’s (and Marx’s before him) insight that the reach of the market is based upon increased commodification as it has been able to reach into ever more parts of social life. We introduced the term “platform economy” in 2015 because we recognized that the digital platforms were changing the dynamics of capitalist accumulation – an analysis framed by regulationist school of political economy. The intuition was that the socio-technical innovation of digital online platforms was the critical fulcrum for an economic restructuring that would rewire the flows of data and ultimately money and power. The firms we have termed the \"mega-platforms\", Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft, have become the most valuable and powerful firms in the world. Importantly, the reach of these platforms is global and yet local and personal. The article contributes to the debate on the relationship between voter turnout and socioeconomic and political variables at the local level in the Czech Republic. We investigated the 2018 Czech municipal elections. We constructed an original dataset composed of 6,229 municipalities. Also, we created a second dataset consisting of 205 municipalities with extended jurisdiction and Prague, which included a composite Index of quality of life (including variables that are part of development indices such as health, economic indicators, education, and many others). From a methodological point of view, we used statistical methods such as ordinary least squares regression to analyze data. We find that a higher quality of life in a municipality is positively associated with a higher voter turnout. Furthermore, the running incumbent does not have an effect on voter turnout. We find that the presence of at least two candidate lists in smaller municipalities increases voter turnout by 10 %. Also, we confirm that municipalities with contest-free elections (the number of candidates is equal or less than assigned seats) have much lower voter turnout. Moreover, the increase in the number of candidates per voter also increases voter turnout, which may be due to the personal ties with candidates. The primary aim of the paper is to present selected results of an original representative survey of the use of time in Slovak households, in which one of the methods of determining the affective component of subjective well-being was used for the first time in Slovakia. Based on the recommendations of the harmonized research on the use of time, we identified extremely positive emotion (happiness) by the means of 24-hour monitoring of the allocation and use of time for paid work, unpaid work and leisure time during the working day and free day. For this contribution, we selected those respondents who are private sector employees. We evaluated and processed the perception of the affective component of subjective well-being (SWB) in terms of age categories of employees, gender, and household category. The research has shown that the hedonic component of SWB, meaning an extremely positive emotion, is the most common among employees in the 25-49 age group at performing unpaid work activities during the working day. Employed women perform more unpaid work and they feel more positive emotions during its performance than working men. Employees living in households with children up to 15 years of age feel more positive emotions at performing unpaid work activities than employees without young children. On the other hand, employees living in households without children (up to 15 years of age) experience more positive emotions during leisure time activities. Case Studies of Electoral Geography in Prague and Warsaw. Electoral geographical research into urban territories shows a distinction in voting behaviour between a city centre and its surroundings. A recent exploratory study of the electoral geography of Prague found that distance from the city centre was the variable that best explained the spatial variation of votes, which might follow a concentric pattern and, thus, it recommended seeking a theoretical explanation in urban sociology, e.g. in the Burgess model of the city. Following this recommendation, I compared spatial patterns of voting behaviour in two cities – Warsaw and Prague. Using component analysis, I reduced the number of analysed variables to one for each city representing the main spatial polarisation. In Prague, voting behaviour showed a distinction between the city centre, inner suburbs and outer suburbs. While the city centre and the outer suburbs were conservative, the inner suburbs tended to vote for the left. This partially follows the Burgess model. On the other hand, the electoral geography of Warsaw showed a different structure. In this article I present a way of visualising urban electoral data in maps that avoid distortion caused by varying polygon size.
