Whilst this is true, some place naming practices reflect hegemonic tendencies that have not received adequate scholarly attention, especially in Zambia. This study examines school names in four districts in the Southern Province of Zambia and exposes the hegemonic slant inherent in place naming. The names examined in this study were collected from the Provincial Educational Offices. The names fall into two categories; government and private school names. These names were couched on Critical Toponymies Theory, a theory which politicises place naming and place names. The study found out that there is a toponymic hegemony in both categories of school names. The study argues that toponymic hegemony, as is shown in the study sample, is a manifestation of the dominance of the history, culture, world view, and identity or at least of the interests of the people who named the schools. The writer presents the pains and pathos as well as the rebellion of the females in Nigeria and aboard. Western Colonialism has badly exploited the country and the people. The females have been the main victims of Nigeria at that time and later too. The patriarchy in the country has given much pain and suffering to Nigerian Women. They were victimized, dehumanized, and humiliated through different social institutions. They were also exploited by their close relatives who were patriarchal by nature. The writer says that the awareness among the people and especially on the women themselves has made the situation better. The females are able to resist any kind of inhuman treatment and severe tortures given by patriarchy and colonialism. They worked together to produce an English version Hanvueng: The Goose King and the Ancestral King: an Epic from Guangxi in Southern China. This book is translated from the vernacular scriptures of the Zhuang Ethnic Group, one of the Chinese minorities. It was published in 2015. Based on a careful reading of this book, the author of this article argues: firstly, this book is of ethnographic Zhuang-English translation because it was translated directly from Zhuang language to English language by adopting ethnography methods of fieldwork and it provides numerous cultural and linguistic notes for those items that may be difficult for readers to understand; secondly, it characterizes the joint efforts of in-and-out governmental organizations, including various organizations, work units, and research projects, and the collaborative work of Zhuang and English giants, authority figures, involving officials, scholars, and common people; thirdly, it is no doubt a good example of ethnographic thick-translation version in translating Zhuang classics into English. For the Uzbek people, the concepts of diplomacy and diplomatic relations are not news. Its roots go back to the distant past - history. However, the appearance of the language depends on the process of speech and speech activity, where speech is based on a specific speech environment. Diplomatic activity exists only when the government becomes independent. Modern Uzbek diplomacy has been forming since 1991, when Uzbekistan gained independence. Since then, a great opportunity has appeared for the linguistic study of diplomatic speech at Uzbek language. The following problems became the main incentive for studying diplomatic speech based on a linguistic approach. 1. In books about Rhetoric, diplomatic speech is limited to one paragraph. 2. Examples presented as diplomatic discourse are often supplemented by excerpts from the speech of historical and creative heroes of historical works or fiction. 3. Real diplomatic speeches, demanded and understanding modernity, are not available from a scientific point of view. In search of a solution to these problems, on this article researched lexemes that form the basis of diplomatic speech by exploring their paradigmatic relationships. As a result, it was discovered that there are more than two hundred lexeme associated with diplomatic speech. When they were selected and classified, ten thematic groups were formed, which means paradigmatic rows. As the computer technology continuously progresses, corpus-based research proves increasingly applicable to language teaching and learning. As a free corpus analysis software program designed specifically for use in the language classrooms, AntConc provides the users with a powerful toolkit with various features to analyze the loaded written texts. Basic functions like the concordance tool and cluster sections of Antconc demonstrate the possibility to assess the performance of students' language proficiency. Considering the fact that IELTS is widely recognized as a standardized test and a big number of Chinese students are preparing for it in order to study abrord, the present study managed to built a self-constructed corpus of students essays in the English writing course. By means of the sophisticated coding and tagging systems, we obtained a set of standard text materials attached with the label of part of speech. Based upon the data analysis of the students’ IELTS writing samples against the modal essay corpus, we conducted the corresponding evaluation of students' lexical resource and offer further suggestions and tailor-made solutions in order to help students improve their writing ability. Under the help of the model essay corpus, students might obtain useful instructions, increase grammar diversity and accuracy, thereby become more competent writers. Our study added more evidence to the conclusion that corpus has a great potential to fundamentally change the ways we approach language education. It is recognized that metaphor should not be trapped in language, but expanded to various mode. Based on the multimedia corpus built by the multimedia annotator software ELAN which gives rise to a more detailed interpretation, this article attempts to explore mysteries in multimodal metaphor in Chinese ecological educational advertisements: what are prominent metaphors characterize this typical advertisement, how modes collaborate in multimodal metaphor, and how meaning creation is processed in multi-mode way. It is classified that four kinds of metaphors are prominently represented, that is, ontological metaphor, color metaphor, money metaphor, and BIG IS SIGNIFICANT. Various modes collaborate simultaneously to construct meaning, and it is suggested that in various modes, there exists differentiation between priority and the others. The more information a mode carries, the more significant it is in collaborations. The most efficient way of TV educational advertisements to convey meaning is visualization, so most of the time the visual mode acts as the priority in assistance with the others. In this book, the author, Xinfang Liu clarifies the symbiosis of the three discourse types from the perspective of rhetorical reciprocity, and proposes a comprehensive model of discourse types in the writing practice. He finds that the current problems of English writing teaching in China are the gaps between writing teaching research, textbook research and the publication of foreign language writing textbooks, and the rigidity and abstraction in the textbook edition and the writing teaching processes, thus applying the model of discourse types to the English writing teaching. Therefore, the strengths of this book lie in both theoretical and practical aspects. Besides the advantages, this book can be refined by illustrating the theory based on a corpus about everyday conversations for the studies of discourse types are closely related to people’s daily life. The present paper attempts to explore the linguistic features of Wilde’s social comedy The Importance of Being Earnest, which is summed up here as trivialization and exquisite sensationalism. It shows that Wilde’s special skill of trivialization was in fact formed in his journalistic career during the 1880s under the influence of “New Journalism”. “Trivialization” helped Wilde to come close to the theatrical audience in a most comprehensible way. Besides, Wilde was also innovative in using a sort of refined and elegant linguistic articulation. His dramatic dialogue possessed a special exquisiteness which enabled him to get rid of the vulgarity of the journalistic trivialization and to create a dramatic discourse of his own. I use the term “exquisite sensationalism” to reveal this feature in contrast to the “vulgar sensationalism” of the late-Victorian journalism and to show that in the theatre Wilde’s linguistic paradox was geared towards the most indulgent and sophisticated end. Contextually speaking, the spectacular theatre’s commitment to fashion and respectability provided a historical occasion for Wilde to exhibit his exquisiteness. This meta-analysis seeks to tackle the issue of code-switching from a sociolinguistic and language pedagogical perspective. The study is a theoretical paper that highlights the concept of code-switching as a socio-linguistic and educational phenomenon as well as to present the social facts and factors that were investigated and highlighted in linguistic research. The methodology adopted in this paper is research synthesis which aims to combine the results of multiple primary research studies on code-switching to highlight the concept of code-switching from a sociolinguistic and language educational perspective. Research synthesis in this paper was conducted to cover qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods research studies and cases studies that employed cases studies and historical/anecdotal studies with the purpose of juxtaposing these findings from different studies to make these findings more applicable and generalisable in the field of foreign language education. Towards this end, the paper presents the different definitions of this phenomenon and the history of its development in linguistic theory as well as in language research. It also proceeds to highlight the sociolinguistic and pedagogical approaches to researching code-switching in items of its functions, teachers' attitudes and pedagogical applications. The intensive policy of Russification through education, especially during the Soviet period created a sizeable Russian-speaking segment in society. With regard to Russian, Azerbaijani displays typical signs of survival of a metropolitan language in a post-colonial context. It puts a certain pressure on the role of Azerbaijani, the language of the majority. It is a matter of significant public interest and subject of ongoing discussions in society. Despite the independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991, the Russian language enjoys its high prestige in the country. There exists an ongoing debate among scholars about the growth of the Russian language in Azerbaijan. The aim of this article is an analysis of government bodies responsible for the government to carry out the implementation of the Azerbaijani language- the officially sole state language in Azerbaijan after the political independence from the ex-Soviet Union. For this reason, the article covers responsible bodies for the implementation of the Azerbaijani language in post-Soviet Azerbaijan and the re-establishment of Azerbaijani in society. With this regard, the post-independence period is interpreted and analyzed. Together with the analysis of this period, some possible changes are put forward that may improve the implementation of the Azerbaijani language. The existing gap in the country is a need for analysis of the following questions: What has been done in the development of the Azerbaijani language after the political independence from the ex-Soviet Union? How does government support and advocate the importance of learning in the Azerbaijani language? And to what extent does this support work in society? The study attempts to examine the role of top policy in the “language building” which took place from 1991, as well as the changes in legislation brought about by independence. This research will contribute to the study of language-building in post-Soviet space. It will shed light on how Azerbaijani society, which has been considered the first independent country from the former USSR managed to guard and improve the inherited multilingualism and mother tongue policy. It will further explore the new phase of transition that started after independence.
