This article is based on ethnological field research with persons in the sports system (i.e. coaching staff), and analyses the challenges of their integration and well-being. The study shows that migrant sports professionals are not integrated into the host society, but rather into the club and live in a professional “bubble.” Although they are privileged migrants, they often face emotional and social challenges. Each remigration brings new integration challenges, transnational families, “sacrificing” of their spouses’ careers and their children’s social life.","PeriodicalId":35228,"journal":{"name":"Traditiones","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42216345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, I examine multilingualism in an important performance genre called dāstān or hekāyat (“story” or “tale”) which plays a central role in the repertoire of Khorasan bards known as bakhshi. These performers are trilingual and sing in Persian, Khorasani Turkish, and Kurmanji Kurdish, the languages of the various ethnic groups living in the area for centuries. In performing a dāstān, the bakhshis alternate sections of spoken prose (in Persian, Khorasani-Turkish, or Kurmanji Kurdish, depending on the audience) with verses (usually in Khorasani-Turkish) sung to their accompaniment on the dotār (a long-necked lute with two strings). I will observe several performances of the dāstān “Shāh Esmā’il and Golzār Khānum”.","PeriodicalId":35228,"journal":{"name":"Traditiones","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47612613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kanaltal, Fur. Val Cjanâl) spoke Slovenian, German, Italian, and Friulian, but today Italian predominates. The article presents the folk customs of the village patron’s feast and New Year’s caroling and greetings in the village of Ugovizza (Slo. Ukve, Ger. Uggowitz, Fur. Ugovitse), where the Slovenian dialect and multilingualism, intertwined thoroughly in the ritual events, have been preserved for the longest time. The collaborators of the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology and the Audiovisual Laboratory ZRC SAZU from Ljubljana participated in these events for several years and filmed customs, the stories of the locals, and scenes from the life in the village and the mountains. The author focuses on singing, songs, and linguistic communication, pointing out the great importance of multilingualism for preserving traditional culture and vice versa. Especially where the population does not receive education in the mother tongue, which is otherwise suppressed from public life, traditional culture offers people a rare opportunity to speak their mother tongue or the native dialect in public in a relaxed manner. It is because it expresses the meaning of the entire ritual.","PeriodicalId":35228,"journal":{"name":"Traditiones","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47120936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Code-switching also characterized the song “Buǝg nan dajte ‘n dobǝr čas” (God, give us auspicious time), which correlates with the bilingual written entry of the Gail Valley parish fair and the Gail Valley costume description in the Inventory of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Austria. The Gail Valley region and its inhabitants have undergone significant changes in ethnic identification, which raises two questions: first, the role of bilingualism in the historical context, and second, the relevance of songs in revealing this context.","PeriodicalId":35228,"journal":{"name":"Traditiones","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42642053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Caroling, the celebration of a village’s patron’s feast, church services, and funerals are all events associated with ritualism. The role that Slovenian, as the language of the minority, plays in these events is the focus of this study. While the ritual framework is only one of the circumstances in the few spaces where Slovenian is the majority language, the situation in a mostly Germanized environment is quite different. This research shows that ritual events are rare occasions when Slovenian is spoken as a minority language in public places.","PeriodicalId":35228,"journal":{"name":"Traditiones","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49321953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
