However, very limited information is available in Ethiopian linseed germplasm. Therefore, the present study was conducted to estimate genetic variability, broad sense heritability and genetic advance; and determine selection for 19 quantitative traits using 126 genotypes (120 Ethiopian linseed accessions and six released varieties). The analysis of variance showed highly significant (P < 0.01) differences for all of the traits demonstrating the presence of high genetic diversity among the studied linseed genotypes. Higher differences between PCV and GCV estimates were observed for seed yield per plant and biological yield per plant, signifying the importance of environmental factors influence. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for seed yield per plant and biological yield per plant, indicating that this high heritability is due to additive gene effects and therefore, selection can be effective for the improvement of linseed for these traits. In addition, moderate heritability coupled with moderate genetic advance was recorded for oil yield per hectare, number of capsules, number of secondary branches, days to maturity, seed yield per hectare and plant height. These results indicated the existence of intermediate expression in these traits for both additive and dominance gene effect. In the present study, high heritability coupled with high GAM was observed for seed yield per plant and biological yield per plant, indicating greater contribution of additive gene action for the expression of these traits; and therefore, improvement can be achieved through selection in these traits.\u0000","PeriodicalId":351050,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering","volume":"8 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oxidative stress occurs in the body when there is serious imbalance between the generation of free radicals and the antioxidant defense system, inflammation is a natural defense mechanism against pathogens and it is associated with many pathogenic diseases such as microbial and viral infections, exposure to allergens, radiation and toxic chemicals, autoimmune and chronic diseases, obesity, consumption of alcohol, tobacco use, and a high-calorie diet. Plants offer significant potentials for development of new anti-inflammatory therapies and treatment of diseases associated with inflammation and Oxidation. Stem bark of <i>Persea ameriacna</i> was extracted using EtOH/H<sub>2</sub>O (80:20 v/v), the extract obtained was subjected to maceration using 3 different solvents, hexane fraction (PAHF), Ethyl-acetate fraction (PAEF) and methanol fraction (PAMF). The methanol fraction came out with the highest yield and was used for the animal study, 30 male mice was divided into 3 different groups, LPS was introduced in one of the groups, PAMF was later administered to the same group, The experiment shows that the extract was able to demonstrate significant reduction in inflammation and also ameliorate oxidation in mice. In conclusion the methanolic fraction of <i>Persea americana</i> stem bark might contain beneficial phytochemicals that can be explored as potential anti-inflammatory and oxidative therapy.","PeriodicalId":351050,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering","volume":"20 18","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140753509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: A total of 87 high-risk children who was examined by brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) in our hospital from August 2017 to December 2018 were enrolled in the study. According to Peabody motor development scale, these patients were divided into developmental coordination disorder (DCD) group (n=54) and non-developmental coordination disorder (non-DCD) group (n=33). After 3-month comprehensive rehabilitation treatment, the latency and changes of BAEP were observed and compared between the two groups. Results: As compared with brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) in non-developmental coordination disorder (non-DCD) group, the III, V and I ~ III wave latencies in developmental coordination disorder (DCD) group were significantly prolonged (P<0.05). After comprehensive rehabilitation treatment, the latency of each wave of BAEP in developmental coordination disorder (DCD) group was significantly shortened (P<0.01), as compared with that before treatment and that in non-developmental coordination disorder (non-DCD) group (P>0.05). Conclusion: Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) can comprehensively, objectively and sensitively reflect the conduction function of central nervous system in children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD), which has important clinical application value in the evaluation of early rehabilitation effects.","PeriodicalId":351050,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129201976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This condition is common in pregnant women, with a global prevalence of about 7%. This study aims to find out the prevalence of this condition among pregnant women in the Tripoli area. A cross-sectional study design was used to assess the prevalence of thrombocytopenia among pregnant women who have visited the obstetrical ward department of obstetrics and gynecology in Al jalaa Hospital, Tripoli from January to April 2021. 1700 pregnant women have been included in the study during their follow-up in Al jalaa hospital of gynecology and obstetrics at the time of the study. 2 milliliters of venous blood were collected under aseptic conditions and transferred into (EDTA) tubes. The complete blood cell counts were determined using a Sysmex analyzer. Sony computer CORE i7 was used, bivariable statistical analysis was carried on using Microsoft office excel to evaluate the effect of an independent variable over the dependent variable. Results shows that 18% of pregnant women were thrombocytopenic; this thrombocytopenia was increased with age, upon the classification and severity of thrombocytopenia 78.5% were mild, and 21.5% were moderate thrombocytopenic with no sever cases. Conclusion: It can be concluded that thrombocytopenia disorders in pregnancy are very common in the Tripoli region, the prevalence of thrombocytopenia increased with the increase in the gestational age to reach the maximum at the third trimester of gestation.","PeriodicalId":351050,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127186070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
