The study focused on newborns and older children (under 18 years old) with BS1. The main eligibility criteria, aport from age, were Enterobacteriaceae HA-BS1, and the use of invasive medico/ procedures. It was demonstrated that the main risk factors of infection were age and medico/ procedures. Due to non-specific symptoms, sepsis is difficult to diagnose, a fact which leads to a high mortality rate in newborns. The existence of such mufti-drug resistant strains as Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamases (ESBLs) or Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) phenotypes is a grave couse for concern.

Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is the most common preexcitation syndrome.\u0000\u0000\u0000AIM OF THE STUDY\u0000The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical course of the disease, as well as the treatment of children and adolescents hospitalized in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology in the years 2008-2015.\u0000\u0000\u0000MATERIALS AND METHODS\u0000The study was carried out in 45 children (62 % male, 38% female; the mean age 11 years). During the study we analyzed 12-lead ECG, 24-hour Holter ECG, echocardiography and the cycloergometric exercise test. The results of treatment were also discussed.\u0000\u0000\u0000RESULTS\u0000Apart from the typical features of preexcitation, the most prevalent abnormality found in ECG was atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia. In 24-hour Holter ECG the most frequently detected disorders were premature ventricular beats and premature atrial contractions. Structural heart defects were detected in 8.9% of the children. The cycloergometric exercise test was positive in 8.9% of patients. The mean duration of symptoms before the diagnosis was 2.5 years. 25% of the patients were asymptomatic. 42.2% of the children needed antiarrhythmic therapy, while 44.4% had accessory pathways ablated.\u0000\u0000\u0000CONCLUSIONS\u0000The most common symptom of preexcitation in the study group were heart palpitations. The most frequent type of arrhythmia in children with preexcitation syndrome was orthodromic atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia. For the majority of older children ablation of the accessory pathway was a recommended form of treatment. In younger children the standard preventive pharmacological treatment was applied for 6 to 12 months.Charakterystyczną cechą zespołów preekscytacji jest obecność dodatkowej, nieprawidłowej drogi przewodzenia w sercu. A variety of disorders can cause epileptic spasms, with the etiology driving management, prognosis, and overall outcome. Preexisting brain damage has been demonstrated in 60% to 90% of the cases reflecting pre-, peri-, or postnatal brain injury that may usually be determined by history and clinical neurologie examination. Cerebra/ malformations may account for up to 30% of the cases [2]. Prenatal a/coho/ exposure can permanently damage the brain, affecting important structures, such as the cerebellum, corpus callosum as we/I as specific cell populations in many other regions of the brain. No one knows what a "safe" amount of a/coho/ consumption du ring pregnancy may be [3].\u0000\u0000\u0000OBJECTIVE\u0000The aim of this article is to present a clinical case of a large brain tempora/ lobe malformation which was recognized after a very early onset of spasms registered on video EEG-monitoring followed by MRI findings and to put forward the assumption that regular consumption of light alcoholic drinks even in low doses could con tribute to irreversible brain damage in the fetus.\u0000\u0000\u0000MATERIAL AND METHODS\u0000All patient data were collected from the N/CU and Newborn Patho/ogy Department of Lviv City Children's Clinical Hospital Health Record Department, and included the hospital and clinic records by the staff neurologist, neurophysiologist, and pediatrician, as we/I as EEG records in the postneonatal period. The mother was interviewed to clarify the pregnancy course data. The mother's consent was obtained for publication.\u0000\u0000\u0000RESULTS\u0000Asymmetric spasms, which were recognized as seizures on the 4th day of the child's life white recording video EEG, urged the physicians towards further diagnostic investigations. Primarily the child was diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome on the 2nd day of life based on clinical and patient history data, but on the following day episodes of myoclonic jerks and jitteriness were noticed and video EEG monitoring started. Upon analysis of video- EEG, myoclonic seizures and spasms were reported showing asymmetry in the amplitude of ictal EEG. MRI was recommended and performed to explain focal EEG findings, and a large brain left temporal lobe malformation was seen.\u0000\u0000\u0000CONCLUSIONS\u0000Spasms in the form of seizures are rarely reported in the neonatal period. Their recognition has to lead to urgent brain imaging study to look for the underlying cause and to implement timely, appropriate corrections in the treatment strategy. Although brain malformations can have many causes, taking careful antenata/, perinatal and family history has ruled out many usual etiologies. Materna/ alcohol consumption during pregnancy may potentially have contributed to the condition.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the feeding practices in children aged 5 to 36 months with regard to models of safe nutrition on the basis of the outcome of the population study performed in 2016. The data obtained show that the feeding practices in children in their first year of life do not meet the guidelines presented in the model of safe nutrition, particularly in matters of timing of complementary feeding introduction and food choice. The analysis of nutrient profile in toddlers' diets indicated the differentiated energy and protein intake is significantly higher than population norms (EAR/AI). It is necessary to modify the nutrition of infants and young children through a better selection of products. Nutritional practice should always be monitored and modified according to the model of safe nutrition as part of medical nutritional counselling. More educational efforts are required to increase the awareness of the relation between the diet and nutritional status of young children among healthcare professionals.

The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the presence of fetal/neonatal complications: the first group (n=14) - with complications (defined as one or more of the following: stillbirth, neonatal death, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) Grade III or IV , necrotic enterocolitis (NEC), proven neonatal sepsis or bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD)) and the second one (n=39) - without severe complications.\u0000\u0000\u0000RESULTS\u0000Gestational age at diagnosis and at delivery was lower in the first group (28.5 weeks vs. 32.15 weeks, p=0.003 and 29.2 weeks vs. 32.8 weeks, p=0.0004). Female fetuses predominated in the second group (64.1%), whereas male fetuses in the first group (64.3%). In both groups the majority of patients delivered by cesarean section (92.9% vs. 97.4% p=0.44). Birth weight was significantly lower in the first group (774g vs. 1416g, p<0.0001). Perinatal morbidity (severe neonatal complications) occurred in 14 (26.4%) cases. The fetal and newborn perinatal mortality rate in the studied group was 13.19% (in comparison to 0.6% for the entire population of pregnant women in Poland).\u0000\u0000\u0000CONCLUSIONS\u00001. Gestational age (at diagnosis and at delivery) and birth weight are the most important prognostic factors related to the adverse outcome in the management of fetal growth restriction. 2.The most common mode of delivery for fetuses with growth restriction is the cesarean section. 3. Early detection of fetal growth restriction in routine perinatal care seems to be insufficient. 4. Fetal and newborn perinatal mortality and morbidity rates in fetal growth restriction are still high and the management of such pregnancies should take place in reference obstetric units, where detailed diagnostics, monitoring and treatment of fetal and neonatal complications can be performed.

The latest reports offer the chance of diagnosing children in the neonatal period. The research focuses on the analysis of ethanol metabolites in the biological tissues in pregnant women or newborns. These unique ethanol metabolites include: fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEE) present in the meconium, blood, hair of the mother and the newborn, ethyl glucuronide in the placenta and meconium, urine, nails and hair, and phosphatidyl ethanol (PEth) found in the infant blood. There were 152 measurements of maximum and minimum serum gentamicin concentrations. Samples were determined based on the chemiluminescence technique on the Siemens Advia Centaur analyzer. The concentrations of gentamicin that were measured were compared with various therapeutic ranges used in the literature.\u0000\u0000\u0000RESULTS\u0000According to the standards adopted in the University Hospital in Wrocław, the maximum concentration was reached in 38.16% of all the chi/dren, white the minimum in 26.32%. In other chi/dren the concentrations were below or above the therapeutic range. According to the Neofax® guidelines, the intended maximum concentration was observed in 71.05% of the newborns, and the minimum in 32.89%. The minimum concentration of <2 mg/L was found in 93.42% of the newborns, white >2 mg/L was determined in 33.33%, despite a 48-hour dosing interval.
