Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the patients of Early-Onset Idiopathic Intractable Seizures in pediatric patient during the one year period i.e. June 2017 to June 2018, there were 64 pediatric patients with Idiopathic Intractable Seizures were enrolled for the study. All details of the patients like Age, sex etc. was noted. All the patients were undergone EEG testing. Out of 64 patients Group A received 30 mg/kg/day pyridoxine with 4 mg/kg/day of oral prednisolone Group B received 4 mg/kg/day of oral prednisolone and 14, 15 randomly. The outcome of patients like episodes of seizure etc. was noted after 1 month of treatment. The statistical analysis was done by Chi-square test and analyzed by SPSS 19 version software. Result: In our study the average age in both the group was comparable with each other i.e. 3 ±1.21Yrs. and 3.52±1.31 Yrs. (p>0.05, t=1.12,df=62). The ratio of Male and Female was 2.9: 1 and 1.90: 1 was comparable with each other (X2=0.29, df=1,p>0.05). Complete seizure freedom was found in 34.38% and 9.38%; >50% seizure reduction but not complete cessation in 40.63% and 28.13%; <50% seizure reduction in 25.00% and 62.50% respectively in Group A and Group B which was statistically significant (X2=10.44, df=2,p<0.005). EEG findings Normal in 37.50% and 12.50%, Decreased Epileptiform discharges in 46.88% and 31.25%, Persistent Epileptiform discharges in 15.63% and 56.25% respectively in Group A and Group B this observed difference was statistically significant (X2=12.35, df=2,p<0.002) Conclusion: It can be concluded from our study that the patients who received the pyridoxine treatment improved much as compared to not received so the role of pyridoxine in the treatment of intractable seizure should not be underestimated. Bang","doi":"10.26611/10141015","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.26611/10141015","url":null,"abstract":"Background: Maternal factors are more influential in affecting neonatal birth weight through biological and nonbiological means. Some of the bio-social factors like maternal age, parity, height, weight, gestation, etc., have been postulated to determine the birth weight of a newborn. Aim: To know the association between maternal factors and low birth weight babies. Material and Methods: In this hospital based cross sectional analytical study 326 mother with their neonates were included. Maternal factors such as age, parity, haemoglobin, height, weight and body mass index were studied for their association with low birth weight neonates. Results: The association of low birth weight with inter pregnancy interval of less than 2 years was significant (p value<0.05). However, the association of low birth weight with parity was not significant (p value>0.05). The association of low birth weight with maternal height of <150cm, weight of less than 55 kg and Hb less than 10 gm/dl was highly significant (p value<0.05). Conclusion: Many of the risks factors responsible for LBW can be identified prior to pregnancy. For reducing the prevalence of LBW there is a need of sustainable practices to improve women’s nutritional status during childhood, adolescence and prior to pregnancy. Methods: The study was conducted on 90 healthy full term patients of ASA 1 and 2 category presenting for elective lower segment caesarean section (LSCS). 45 patients were given general anaesthesia and other 45 received spinal anaesthesia. The Apgar score was recorded at 1 minute and 5 minutes after birth. Results: Out of 45 mothers who received general anaesthesia, 38 (84.4%) gave birth to neonates having Apgar score less than or equal to 6 at 1 minute after birth and the remaining 7 neonates (15.6%) had Apgar score of more than 7. Out of 38 babies only one baby continued to have Apgar score of less than or equal to 6 at 5 minutes. On the other hand, out of 45 mothers who received spinal anaesthesia, only 15 mothers gave birth to babies having Apgar score less than or equal to 6 at 1 minute after birth out of which 14 improved at 5 minutes with Apgar score of more than or equal to 7. Conclusion: We conclude based on the study results that babies born by LSCS under general anaesthesia are at higher risk of having low Apgar score (Less than or equal to 6) at 1 minute after birth. It can be performed under general or regional anaesthesia like spinal or epidural technique. The obstetric anaesthetist requires special training and skills to provide safe anaesthesia. The anaesthetic techniques and agents chosen should provide good anaesthesia and analgesia with minimal effects on fetomaternal well being. Although most patients undergoing caesarean section are young and healthy, they represent a high risk group of patients. Either of general and spinal anaesthesia is not ideal for caesarean section because each has advantages and risk to both mother and foetus. However the aim of anaesthetist is to choose the method which is safest and most comfortable for the mother, least depressive to the new born and which provides optimal working conditions for obstetrician1. Apgar score is the best parameter to assess the immediate condition of the baby.2,3 It is the first non invasive test done to the new born after birth. It is a bedside clinical method to assess the health of the new born immediately after birth and to determine the need of any resuscitative measures. The scores are taken at 1 and 5 minutes after birth. Of the two scores, the 5 minutes score is regarded as the better predictor of survival ","PeriodicalId":349984,"journal":{"name":"MedPulse International Journal of Pediatrics","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115860377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
