Epical attempts at showing those events complied with the epical model known as ‘native heroicum’, which was popular on Polish lands in those days. According to this model, the primary rule of verismo was combined with attempts at making narration more attractive. Some of them have been described in this paper. Moreover, the author discussed the method of depicting Tatar‑Turkish armies in the works, paying attention to their abundance. W tym samym czasie ruch sarmacki rozwijał się  w Polsce i na ziemiach słowackich, które znalazły sie w granicach cesarstwa Habsburgów. Sarmatyzm był związany ze szczególnym zainteresowaniem starożytnością w epoce baroku, z narodzinami slawizmu i panslawizmu, a także z początkami ruchu odrodzenia narodowego. Three poems about little domestic animals, and more specifically – their dying, are worth the attention. The author, who was an educated man, wrote elegies for the death of the ‘turkey court’ favourites, following the model of ancient (Catullus, Ovid) and old‑Polish (Kochanowski, Szymonowic) writers. Autor wyróżnia dwa okresy. W pierwszym okresie (1960–1971) opublikowano prace о biografii Gwagnina, w których do obiegu naukowego wprowadzono nowe źródła, dokonały się pozytywne zmiany w ocenie wkładu kronikarza naukowców rosyjskich, pojawiły się publikacje o korzystaniu z jego Kroniki Sarmacji europejskiej przez autorów krajów Europy zarówno zachodniej, jak i wschodniej. W drugim okresie (od początku lat 70. XX wieku) Kronika Gwagnina stała się obiektem wszechstronnej analizy: badano jej źródła, ją samą jako źródło historyczne i historiograficzne, rękopiśmienne tłumaczenia Kroniki i odrębnych fragmentów, problem autorstwa samego dzieła. Works by Kraszewski, Groza, Grabowski, Jankowski and many other authors, which are dedicated to Mikołaj Potocki, seem to be an interesting testimony of the 19th‑century writers’ struggle with the tradition of their ancestors (not always obvious and accepted). The analysis of selected works proves that the poet had an excellent preparation for interpreting old literature. Poems written by Harasymowicz are the evidence of both his familiarity with aesthetic conventions of the Baroque period and his knowledge of historical themes of the 17th century. These texts, which concern literary life, are considered in reference to the tradition of minstrel literature and against the background of war changes and cultural diagnoses. Mostly they appear as creatures gifted with a symbolic (allegoric) meaning, seen through the prism of the tradition reaching to Aristotle’s Zoology, Physiologist, and later symbological compendia. The second category is describing birds as food or pests (especially in hunting and agricultural literature). Apart from this ‘practical’ paradigm, there is also a third one: birds as a source of an aesthetic thrill, fascination with them includes both lyricism and a ludic element. The first two categories fit into a more general utilitarian paradigm. Handbooks, treaties, sermons, fairy tales, paroemias and animal epigrams showcase birds almost exclusivelyas tools of moral, religious and conventional reflection, or as objects to be obtained and consumed. Interestingly, the symbological activity of the creators does not cease in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the representatives of avifauna are burdened with new meanings, while the fantastic creatures slowly disappear from the creators’ fields of view. In the third group of works distinguished here, one can notice the phenomenon of the emancipation of birds as objects of interest just as they are, although their voice is heard mostly in the digressions scattered throughout the big epic works.
