This paper discusses the tug-of-war between cosmopolitanism and localism within the persona of Ifemelu, the main character in Americanah, specifically in what food she eats and how the food is eaten and its influence on her identity. Americanah is a novel that tells the story of a Nigerian immigrant living in the United States who decided to return to Nigeria. The study focuses on the characters and characterization of the figures in the novel and it aims to show how a rooted cosmopolitan identity was formed in Ifemelu. The study is a qualitative research using the rooted cosmopolitanism theory proposed by Kwame Anthony Appiah. The research shows that Ifemelu's rooted cosmopolitan identity was seen through the negotiation between her cosmopolitan identity and her local (Nigerian) identity. The discourse on rooted cosmopolitanism built by the text reveals its partiality toward Nigerian local culture, specifically the Nigerian foods.","PeriodicalId":34692,"journal":{"name":"LET Linguistics Literature and English Teaching Journal","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85270499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is qualitative research by using documentation technique. There were three subjects of this study namely RM with song “Memories”, AH with song “Thank You Next”, and HD with song “Comethru”. At the first singer’s pronunciation, there were 26 mispronounced words and she did consonant deletion, vowel shift, vowel coalescence, consonant neutralization, consonant insertion, and metathesis. At the second singer’s pronunciation, there were 17 mispronounced words and she did consonant deletion, vowel shift, consonant neutralization, consonant insertion, assimilation, and diphthongization. At the third singer’s pronunciation, there were 12 mispronounced words and she did consonant deletion, consonant neutralization, vowel shift, vowel coalescence, and consonant insertion. These pronunciation changes occur because of the distinction between the phonological system of English and Bahasa Indonesia , and the Indonesian cover-singers still rely on the word’s spelling rather than phonetic sound. Regardless of these two reasons, there are also several similarities in the phonological system between English and Bahasa Indonesia, but the Indonesian cover-singers still perform the pronunciation changes.","PeriodicalId":34692,"journal":{"name":"LET Linguistics Literature and English Teaching Journal","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91207841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ultimate psychological stream is noted as one of the paramount factors embodying brighter future educational outlooks since the majority of prior studies revealed that a higher degree of resilience would enable EFL teachers to cultivate stronger dedication, tenacity, and commitment in leading their pupils to reach the targeted learning outcomes fully. In consonance with this theoretical underpinning, the major focus of this present study is to unearth particular independent strategies employed by two invited EFL teachers in maintaining their resilience, particularly while being exposed to adverse working conditions and unpredictable stress events. Thus, the results obtained from these two invited participants will shed a new light regarding a set of rewarding independent strategies incorporated by EFL teachers in preserving their resilience amid taxing working conditions. In light of this matter, the sharing emanated from these research participants will work as a propelling force for global EFL teachers working under arduous teaching dynamics owing to the full activation of their resilience enabling them to stay on the right educational tracks; educating young generations for better future lives.","PeriodicalId":34692,"journal":{"name":"LET Linguistics Literature and English Teaching Journal","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81247688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
