Three pinching treatments (non, single after 1 month from transplanting and double after 1 and 3 months from transplanting) and 4 PBZ concentrations of 0, 50, 100 and 150 ppm at one-month interval and their combined treatments laid out as a factorial RCBD was employed in this study. Best single-treatment results of dense foliage were found with single pinching or PBZ at either 50 or 100 ppm. As for combined effects, single pinching + spraying with PBZ at 100 ppm was the superior combined treatment; with a reduced plant height by 50.17 and 50.06%, increased number of branches/plant by 95.85 and 96.18%, reduced number of leaves/plant by only 10.27 and 9.26% and increased number of flowers/plant by 51.97 and 48.43% in both seasons, respectively. However, this treatment delayed flowering by 5.3 days in the first season only. The highest values regarding chlorophylls (a and b), carotenoids and total indoles were recorded by this superior combined treatment. Finally, it is recommended to treat Mexican petunia plants cultivated in 16-cm-pots filled with peat moss + perlite (1:1 by volume) with single pinch after 1 month from transplanting + 4 applications at one-month interval with PBZ at 100 ppm for optimum stunting with satisfied quality as pot plant. et al. The 18 selected families were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replications during summer 2017 at the Experimental Station Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University; at Abies, Alex, A.R.E. Observations that recorded on ten characters reflected considerable variability. The results indicated, also, that the all 18 selected families, that obtained after three cycles of individual plant selection; varied in their horticultural characteristics, and exhibited highly significant differences, with desirable effect, for all studied characters. Moreover, the mean performances showed uniform plants within each family; and a clear indication of agronomic superiority of some families over others, as well as, over the original population also was recorded. Mean values were used to determine characters’ phenotypic and genotypic variances, phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation, broad sense heritability and genetic advance. Clear narrow range of different between PCV and GCV was observed for six characters from ten studied characters; plant height, internode length, branches number per plant, pod diameter, total pods number per plant and total pods weight per plant. High heritability along with high genetic advance as percent of the mean were obtained for total yield per plant, pods number per plant, branches number per plant, internode length and plant height revealing the importance of additive gene action in the inheritance of these characters and suggested reliable okra improvement through selection of these traits.","PeriodicalId":346845,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Agriculture Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130357898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Walp.) plants were sown in the same pots after the harvest of tomato plants which were previously treated with different rates (5, 10, 15, 30 and 45g/kg soil) of seed powder of two Brassicaceae plants, watercress (Eruca Sativa M.) or mustard (Sinapis alba L.) compared to those treated with Basamid herbicide at 0.2 g/pot. This work was done in the greenhouse of the Egyptian National Research Centre during the two successive summer seasons of 2017 and 2018. The obtained results indicated that all previous treatments used to tomato were significantly minimized the weight (fresh and dry) of grasses, broad-leaved and the total weeds associated with the following cowpea plants, at 45 and 85 days after sowing (DAS). Generally, all treatments with watercress were more effective than mustard in controlling both broad leaved weeds and grasses. Moreover, broad leaved weeds were more susceptible than grasses. The results also showed that all mentioned treatments had significant effect on cowpea plants, significantly increasing most growth parameters and yield and yield components. The results indicated that all tested treatments had no toxic effects on the following cowpea plants.","PeriodicalId":346845,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Agriculture Research","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124036356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
