Normally STS control logic is designed such that both feeder voltages are considered in phase and the three phase (3-Phi) line reactance of both the feeders are assumed to be equal. However, the two different feeders have different parameters and hence the phase angle between both bus voltages at the receiving end of the STS terminals is different. Depending on phase angle difference and time of disturbance, cross current phenomena occurs during switching consequently transfer time is maximized. Results show improvement in the performance of STS when weighted-least square state estimation technique has been used to estimate the phase angle at the input terminals of STS. The impedances of both feeders have been matched and phase angle difference at the STS terminals has been eliminated by installing shunt capacitor of proper size. PSCAD/EMTDC software package has been used for simulation and analysis.","PeriodicalId":346773,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Emerging Technologies","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121559932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

TriBA is compared with two types of static interconnection networks for VLSI implementation. The interconnection networks used for comparison are well-known in literature as two-dimensional mesh and binary tree. The evaluation criteria has been selected from three orthogonal entities - physical (chip area and dissipation), computational speed (message delay) and cost (chip yield, layout cost). TriBA is a new solution for computer architecture, which is believed to be suitable for sophisticated embedded applications with multiple concurrent processing centers. TriBA consists of a 2D grid of small, programmable processing units, each physically connected to its three neighbors. TriBA is an object-oriented chip multi-processor structure that supports truly parallel execution of objects from hardware. Cores on the same chip are connected via triplet-based hierarchical interconnection network (THIN), which has simple topology and computing locality characteristic. The root of \"triplet based architecture\" is based on the concept that \"complex problems can be decomposed to three relatively independent sub-problems, which are data processing, data management and data communication\" TriBA manifests great similarity to the hierarchal structure of object systems, so that the software and computer system achieve a certain degree of structural unity.","PeriodicalId":346773,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Emerging Technologies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127284236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researchers utilize VR software and Superscape VRT (SVRT), to build the VR scenes and manipulate the vehicle objects through Superscape control language. Then, the researchers make good use of the detecting attributes designed in the front and both sides of the controlled vehicle to detect the traffic condition and the environment around the controlled vehicle. Applying the object attributes in SVRT, the relative distance and velocity between the proceeding vehicle and the controlled one can be measured and obtained instead of using expensive sensor systems in real vehicles. Furthermore, the fuzzy control programs are written in C++, compiled into the dynamic link library format, and channeled into VR to manipulate the controlled vehicle. As a result, the controlled vehicle moves according to the speed limit, and is also able to keep a safe distance from the proceeding vehicle if the proceeding vehicle moves too slowly or the traffic condition is not allowed to pass. Furthermore, the controlled vehicle will pass the proceeding vehicle if the traffic conditions are allowed.","PeriodicalId":346773,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Emerging Technologies","volume":"328 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114008580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present an improvement in the algorithm in which a voiced/unvoiced/silence discrimination measure is applied in order to reduce the spurious GCIs detected incorrectly for noise and unvoiced speech. Speech classification is addressed by formulating a decision rule for the glottal closure instant candidates which classifies the candidates as voiced or non-voiced on the basis of feature measurements extracted from the speech signal alone. The technique of Dynamic Programming is then employed in order to select an optimum set of epochs from the GCI candidates. The algorithm has been tested on the APLAWD speech database with 87.23% improvement achieved in reduction of spurious GCIs.","PeriodicalId":346773,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Emerging Technologies","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125200993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the rapid deployment of WLANs, there is a growing demand for WLANs to support voice applications. In this research paper we present simulation results by enabling the Speech Activity Detection (SAD) for seven codecs, i.e. G.711, G.723.1, G.729, G.726 (ADPCM), G.728 (LD-CEPT), G.729 (CS-ACELP), and GSM under similar load conditions for interactive Voice over WLAN system on the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN standard. Additionally, results have also been obtained by disabling Speech Activity Detection and both sets of results have been compared. The primary metric used in the comparison is packet end-to-end delay. From our results we conclude that the use of the Speech Activity Detection significantly improves the Average Packet end-to-end delay and slightly improves the Average Packet Delay variation for all of the aforementioned vocoders. The G.723.1 vocoder provides the least end-to-end delay and packet delay variation under both conditions, i.e. with enabled and disabled SAD. With enabled SAD, the average end-to-end delay improves by approximately 58% for our experiments.","PeriodicalId":346773,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Emerging Technologies","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133452213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of cellular manufacturing is complex for real life problems. The important step in designing a cellular manufacturing system is the formation of part families and corresponding machine groups so that parts requiring similar processing requirements can be processed alongside in same cell. In this paper an approach for cellular manufacturing system design is developed that combines a local search heuristic with genetic algorithm while allowing the formation of single machine cells. The combination, after being tested on a number of problems from literature, has shown that the presence of single machine cells has reduced the number of intercellular moves and corresponding cost while increasing the grouping efficacy.","PeriodicalId":346773,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Emerging Technologies","volume":"302 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133565541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
