The results shown were obtained by measuring two different types of overhead power cables of similar size but with different surface structure which causes the backscatter from each type of cable at 150GHz to be distinct. The measurements are supported by simulations made that incorporate Bragg mode theory.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132310176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple transmit antennas are multiplexed via OFDM subcarrier interleaving. Such a multiplexing enables a simultaneous operation of transmit antennas, while the complete bandwidth is utilized by each of them. Whereas the known OFDM-MIMO radar concepts perform multiplexing via equidistant subcarrier interleaving, we propose the use of non-equidistant subcarrier interleaving for multiplexing of transmit antennas. The advantage of this approach over the equidistant interleaving is the full unambiguously measurable distance range, not reduced through the subcarrier interleaving. To cope with the increased sidelobes in distance estimation due to the non-equidistant subcarrier interleaving, we propose a novel two-dimensional distance-velocity estimation algorithm based on compressed sensing that incorporates the radar images from all antennas. The proposed algorithm is able to detect weak targets, originally masked by the sidelobes of more dominant ones.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132320236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The slots are fed by waveguide power divider. In order to obtain sum and difference radiation pattern, a magic T is utilized end of the waveguide feeder. Slot dimensions and distance between each slot are adjusted and optimized to get high gain and low return loss using 3D EM simulation. Short depth flares are added to aperture of each 4 × 1 slots to enhance gain of the array. According to the simulation results, gain of the array at the sum port is 21.9 dBi. At the difference port, monopulse radiation pattern have 19.3 dBi maximum gain and -32 dB null. Return losses at the sum and difference port are lower than -6 dB in the operation band. Total dimensions of the 4 × 4 array are 8.36 cm × 8.4 cm × 7.06 cm.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"44 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132537540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the examinations, wavelet coefficients extracted from micro-Doppler profiles are employed as classifier features for the airliner-, glider- and helicopter-type aerial targets and also for the examined wind turbine (WT) model. In order to simulate the targets' scatterings more accurately, their computer-aided design (CAD) models are considered. Moreover, scattering characteristics of the targets are taken into account for a variety of radar aspects and propeller or blade rotation speeds. Through the simulation results obtained by employing Bayesian and probabilistic neural network (PNN) classifiers, classification performance of a typical air traffic control (ATC) radar system is exhibited. Additionally, the results present the recognisability of WTC on ATC systems via the classification procedure.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"48 14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115571401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to suppress the range sidelobes and improve the detection performance, we present a method on the basis of Gold sequence. Given a bunch of Gold coded waveforms, a randomly selected waveform is transmitted. The receiver has the knowledge of the randomly chosen waveform matching with the received signals. After matching filter, received signals at multiple adjacent transmitters are accumulated. The range mainlobes can be accumulated effectively while the range sidelobes can't be accumulated. Therefore the main-sidelobe ratio is improved obviously after accumulation. At last, the simulation validated this result.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127343632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The detection of targets in the presence of strong rain clutter would also be desirable. The usual waveform for ground based radars is LPRF (low pulse repetition frequency) with PRFs below ~1000Hz, resulting in unambiguous range measurements exceeding 150km. This waveform has many advantages for ground based radars, even with regard to clutter and small targets from near-in ground area around the radar. However, with growing signal processing capabilities, modern radars can now be extended from 3D-operation (range-azimuth-elevation) to 4D-operation (range - azimuth - elevation - Doppler). The parameters of the fourth dimension can be measured by interleaving MPRF (medium pulse repetition frequency) waveforms with the standard LPRF waveform. When targets need to be tracked through windmill areas or rain clutter, the regions concerned can be detected by an LPRF waveform. If it is predictable that one or more targets will traverse windmill or rain clutter areas, the waveform can be switched to MPRF, where targets can easier be detected in such environments.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127517513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a track table for efficient track management is proposed; then, a track management function is designed using a state machine. The proposed scheme can initiate, confirm, and delete all tracks of multiple targets. Moreover, it can determine whether the detected target is a real target or a ghost track, and a terminated track or a sudden missing track. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed tracking scheme is processed normally.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"66 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131673733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithm utilizes a weighted pure minimum mean square error (MMSE) algorithm for multi-radar data fusion and adaptive alpha - beta tracking algorithm for target tracking. The developed data fusion algorithm calculates the weighted center of mass of all targets observed by OTH radars (OTHRs) within a gate radius of predicted position, and uses it for a track update process. During the process a weighting factor which will be used in an adaptive alpha-beta tracking algorithm is derived. The weighting factor as well as alpha and beta factors are updated in each observation period and depend on all targets, which have fallen into a gate radius during the track update process. The algorithm is designed, implemented, and tested in an environment consisting of a simulated network of two OTHRs with significantly overlapping surveillance areas.","PeriodicalId":346680,"journal":{"name":"2016 17th International Radar Symposium (IRS)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126311103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
