Palacios Ríos","doi":"10.1016/j.rmu.2017.09.002","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.rmu.2017.09.002","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objective</h3><p>Determine if patients undergoing elective surgery have risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), using the Stop-bang questionnaire.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>Patients who entered a university hospital for surgery and met the inclusion criteria were asked to be weighed, measure, and answered questions about their sleep habit. They were measured and weighed on a stationary SECA scale with a maximum capacity of 220<!--> <!-->kg. The neck was measured in inches with a tape measure. The questionnaire was answered and given a risk measured by the same scale, and the data was collected in the capture sheet.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>A power of 80% was used, considering a <em>p</em>-value that registered below 0.05 statistically significant. Data was collected from 222 patients undergoing surgical procedures at a teaching hospital in northeastern México. The average age was 57 years (24–87 years). The body mass index presented an average of 29.6<!--> <!-->kg/m<sup>2</sup>. We found that 19.8% of the patients had normal BMI, with 80.2% of the sample being overweight or obese (<em>n</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->178). As for the circumference of the neck, an average of 16.4<!--> <!-->in. was recorded.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>It was found that 68% of the sample posed an intermediate or high risk for OSAS, compared to other literature that marked 30%. The mean frequency reported for primary dissection of the abdominal aorta is less than 2%, compared with the ascending aorta (70%), the descending aorta (20%), and the aortic arch (7%).</p></div><div><h3>Clinical case</h3><p>A 74-year-old man begins his illness with sudden and intense lumbar and abdominal pain. An angiotomography showed an infrarenal abdominal aortic dissection extending to both primitive iliac arteries just before their bifurcation. An aortobifemoral bypass was performed with a bifurcated Dacron graft with a good postoperative result.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>Primary abdominal aortic dissection is a rare pathology that in symptomatic patients can be treated with an open or endovascular repair. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are a risk group for HIV/AIDS. Therefore, knowing their social representation of HIV/AIDS will help to plan strategies for prevention and adherence to treatment.</p></div><div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To know the social representation of HIV-AIDS among young men who have sex with men (MSM).</p></div><div><h3>Method</h3><p>An exploratory qualitative study with a trans-sectional non-experimental design was performed. A non-probability sampling was used. The convenience sample consisted of 25 MSM, who ranged in age from 18 to 29 years and resided in the metropolitan area in a city in northeastern México at the time of application of a free association test and a questionnaire with eight open-ended questions. Data were collected through social networks and a non-governmental organization and were analyzed using a thematic content analysis.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>The category most associated with HIV-AIDS was “disease,” followed by the categories “acquisition forms” and “death.” These three categories represented 59% of the associations.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>Young MSM who participated in the study had a social representation of HIV/AIDS as a deadly disease, caused by a virus (HIV) that is spread during sex. Knowledge about the disease allows adequate management from prevention to treatment, and a better knowledge has also been associated with better adherence to the treatment.</p></div><div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To determine factors associated with the level of knowledge about arterial hypertension in primary care patients.</p></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><p>A non-experimental, cross-sectional, and analytical study was performed with a convenience sample using a structured survey to measure the level of knowledge about arterial hypertension. Frequency calculations and multivariate analysis were performed to determine the association between several factors with the level of knowledge, is considered statistically significant at <em>p</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->0.05.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Of 188 participants, 68.09% were females, the average age was 45.37 years old, 35.11% had a diagnosis of arterial hypertension, and 68.09% had a family history of arterial hypertension. The level of knowledge was medium and was associated with age (<em>p</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->0.01), previous diagnosis of hypertension (<em>p</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->0.01) and a family history of hypertension (<em>p</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->0.001). Mora","doi":"10.1016/j.rmu.2017.09.003","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.rmu.2017.09.003","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To confirm the applicability of an exponential mathematical law based on dynamic systems in the evaluation of cardiac dynamics, reducing the time of evaluation from 21 to 16<!--> <!-->h, as has been achieved in the area of cardiology by developing innovative diagnostic methodologies that allow us to establish differences between normal and pathological cardiac dynamics.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>Starting from 180 ambulatory and continuous electrocardiographic records between normal and pathological patients, a heart rate sequence was simulated for 16 and 21<!--> <!-->h with values of heart rate and beats per hour of each record, to construct the attractor of each dynamic. Later, the fractal dimension of each attractor and its occupation in the generalized space of Box-Counting was calculated. Finally, the mathematical diagnosis was determined at 16 and 21<!--> <!-->h and sensitivity, specificity and Kappa coefficient were calculated respectively to the conventional diagnostic taken as the gold standard.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>It was possible to establish that the values between 206 and 349 for the <em>K</em><sub><em>p</em></sub> grid were associated with normal diagnoses, while values between 36 and 194 were related to disease in 16<!--> <!-->h.
