In this paper, the literature on the subject is briefly reviewed, the method of generating c.t.s is described and their properties discussed. The paper goes on to report original work on the use of c.t.s for matching shapes and for detecting certain features such as edge features and symmetry. Possible applications of c.t.s are briefly reviewed, leading to the conclusion that they could be a valuable aid in the inspection, sorting and manipulation of industrial artefacts.","PeriodicalId":344610,"journal":{"name":"Iee Journal on Computers and Digital Techniques","volume":"139 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1979-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114757006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The joint error probabilities at the output can be determined from the input statistics by jointly considering two inputs: a noise-free signal and the same signal corrupted by independent additive noise. For the case of signal and noise components which are independent and each identically distributed, the joint error probabilities are polynomials in the expected values of signal and noise. Interesting and relevant special situations are examined, and an example is given.","PeriodicalId":344610,"journal":{"name":"Iee Journal on Computers and Digital Techniques","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1979-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123828553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To produce cost-effective designs, he needs the ability to design in an implementation-independent manner and then to map this abstract design onto the cheapest hardware-software system consistent with the design objectives. This paper, one of a series, defines some of the primitive constructs which can be used in the design phase and which involve both control and data aspects of the design. An example of the use of these constructs in design is also presented.","PeriodicalId":344610,"journal":{"name":"Iee Journal on Computers and Digital Techniques","volume":"18 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1979-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116553208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It substantially extends the work reported in our earlier letter, which itself extended the iterative digital cellular r.o.m.-based multiplier of Chung and Bedrosian. Details of the earlier extension, and of the new work, may be found in an NPL Report, the purpose of this note is to indicate in essence what is described more fully therein. Although fast monolithic 16-bit multiplier circuits are now available, there are many processes which a user-programmed iterative system can be made to do, which are not offered by commercially available v.l.s.i. units.","PeriodicalId":344610,"journal":{"name":"Iee Journal on Computers and Digital Techniques","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1979-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121760374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The question of buffering at the transmitter and the receiver is considered, and expressions are derived for the necessary minimum delay that has to be introduced at the transmitter and the receiver if distortion is to be avoided. Also, a ‘symbol-injection’ system is considered, and an expression is derived for the system delay necessary to avoid distortion. The results of a statistical analysis of lowpass filtered speech are presented, and these results are then used to obtain estimates of the necessary minimum overall system delay, and the necessary buffer sizes, in a system of speech coding based on the use of the waveform segments between the real zeros of speech. Also, estimates are provided of the period of time that the output will contain distortion if a delay is used that is less than the minimum necessary to avoid distortion.","PeriodicalId":344610,"journal":{"name":"Iee Journal on Computers and Digital Techniques","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1979-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127802676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
