It explored how L1 in the pre-writing stage built dialogic engagement as a form of empowerment necessary to engage in L2 writing. Grade 8 students conducted community interviews to gather local and national issues needed to elicit small group pre-writing discussions. Guided by the sociocultural theory of learning by Vygotsky and the dialogic model of Alexander (2010), results revealed that the speakers' L1 has significant roles in L2 writing. These identified classroom L1-supported discourses further build dialogic engagement among the participants, showing their empowered roles through problem-posing, referencing, reflecting, and problem-solving. Such L1-dialogic engagement further allows learners to penetrate social realities, which helps them to build critical awareness of their society. Data open implications for teaching English, specifically promoting critical language pedagogy in second language learning.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"60 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141349665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The exploratory sequential mixed methods approach and the purposive snowball sampling technique were utilized. The study revealed nine themes: life triumphs, activities, attitude, relationships, emotions, resources, life purpose, life lessons, and spirituality. These served as bases for the nine items developed, constituting the flourishing scale. The scale evaluation revealed an I-CVI > 0.78 and S-CVI/Ave = 0.943, which indicated excellent content validity with all items maintained. For reliability testing, Cronbach’s alpha analysis yielded α = .865, indicating a reliable and acceptable scale. Recommendations to utilize the flourishing scale for Filipino older adults are provided in nursing practice and nursing education.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"118 47","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141362415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The challenges for both academics and learners alike went beyond the technological aspect in navigating remote learning. It implied a need for pedagogical innovation to promote meaningful understanding among the learners and effective teaching delivery among practitioners. Using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) Thematic Analysis, this study zeroed in on Team Teaching as a Social Science Collaborative Strategy in the new normal. Best practices of academics across Cebu City's higher education institutions that utilize varied forms of team teaching were described and categorized. Results manifested varied forms of team teaching as virtual learning strategies came with a few challenges. As such, a teaching model, HUGPONG, aimed at facilitating collaborative teaching in the Social Sciences, was crafted.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140997212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a support material, pectin is suitable because of its stability, strong mechanical attributes, and favorable absorption properties. In this study, the influence of mango pectin concentration on the CP bead characteristics and the leakage of immobilized yeast cells were determined. Results have indicated that yeast cells can be immobilized using low-methoxyl pectin (LMP) from mango peels via entrapment technique. Pectin concentration did not affect the size (3.0323 to 3.4315 mm) of the CP beads. Only 5% and 7% (w/v) pectin concentrations produced spherical beads (SF<0.05). Increasing the pectin concentration from 3% to 7% (w/v) resulted in a 36.21% decrease in swelling ratio for CP beads with yeast. The pectin concentration significantly affects the cell leakage (p-value<0.05). The results further indicate the feasibility of using locally available materials as a matrix for immobilization.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"31 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141023099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The context-based teaching through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was instrumental in achieving sustainability competencies and in bringing positive education outcomes in various educational milieus. Studies on its implementation in the Philippine context are still limited. This paper examines the effectiveness of Context-Based Teaching (CBT) through ESD on the science performance of secondary students in the Philippines. It reviewed pedagogical strategies applied to embed Sustainable Competencies (SCs) in the teaching-learning process. Results revealed its effectiveness and highlighted key SCs that were mostly developed and those that were least emphasized. However, the indicated variables did not influence its effectiveness. For further research, other indicators of learning that may potentially affect its successful implementation can be critically investigated.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"74 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140665363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we introduce new constructions of Almost Difference Sets derived from cyclotomic classes of order 12 in the finite field GF(q), where q is a prime satisfying the form q=12n+1 for positive integers n ≥ 1 and q < 1000. We show that a single cyclotomic class of order 12 (with and without zero) can form an almost difference set. Additionally, we successfully construct almost difference sets using unions of cyclotomic classes of order 12, both for even and odd values of n. To accomplish this, an exhaustive computer search employing Python was conducted. The method involved computing unions of two cyclotomic classes up to eleven classes and assessing the presence of almost difference sets. Finally, we classify the resulting almost difference sets with the same parameters up to equivalence and complementation.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":" 37","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139139186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the individual effect of perceived internal CSR and external CSR on employees’ job satisfaction. Moreover, this investigation explores the mediating roles of perceived work-life balance support (WLBS) and work stress (WS). The researchers use partial least square structural equation modeling to test the data from employees in Taiwan. The results prove that perceived internal CSR and external CSR positively and significantly affect job satisfaction. Perceived WLBS partially mediates the perceived internal CSR–job satisfaction and perceived external CSR–job relationships, whereas WS partially mediates only the perceived internal CSR and job satisfaction relationship. Moreover, perceived WLBS and WS sequentially mediate the CSR and job satisfaction relationship. The study’s findings suggest that it is vital for firms to strengthen internal and external CSR engagements to promote WLBS, thereby reducing WS and ultimately increasing employees’ job satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"9 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139155507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most methods used in synthesizing these materials employ high deposition temperatures. Hence, in this work, Ti3SiC2 thin film was prepared and deposited on a steel sample without heating or biasing using a magnetized sheet plasma source. The synthesis was carried out by sputtering titanium, silicon, and graphite targets with Ar plasma at different deposition times of 60, 90, and 120 minutes. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) scans of the samples confirmed the synthesis of the desired compound. Moreover, the wettability and surface energy properties of the coated substrate were calculated by contact angle measurements. Results showed that as the deposition time increased, the coated substrate became more hydrophobic. Indeed, these findings show that Ti3SiC2 deposited steel substrate, with its increased hydrophobicity, is a potential self-cleaning coating for industrial tools.","PeriodicalId":34442,"journal":{"name":"Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":" 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138617494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
