Goal-Oriented requirement engineering (GORE) provides an incremental approach for elicitation, analysis, elaboration & refinement, specification and modeling of requirements. Various Goal Oriented Requirement Engineering (GORE) methods exist for these requirement engineering processes like KAOS, GBRAM etc. GORE techniques are based on certain underlying concepts and principles. This paper presents and synthesizes the underlying concepts of GORE with respect to coverage of requirement engineering activities. The advantages of GORE claimed in the literature are presented. This paper evaluates GORE techniques on the basis of concepts, process and claimed advantages.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126796837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most often, recurring program structures represented an important concept from software requirements or design spaces. Repetitions increased conceptual complexity and physical size of programs, and also signified unexploited reuse opportunities. Despite potential benefits, avoiding or explicating repetitions with conventional programming techniques was either impossible or would require developers to compromise other important design goals. We believe these problems are common in many program situations. We hypothesize that they have their roots in much similarity that is inherent in software, and not strong enough generic design mechanisms to represent repetitions in a unified, generic way. We discuss mixed-strategy approach that strengthens generic design capabilities of conventional programming techniques with help of a generative meta-programming technique.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127013186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such early estimates can be used to help inform decisions on testing, refactoring, code inspections, design rework etc. This paper demonstrates the efficacy of building scalable failure-proneness models based on code complexity metrics across the Microsoft Windows operating system code base. We show the ability of such models to estimate failure-proneness and provide feedback on the complexity metrics to help guide refactoring and the design rework effort.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128184679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a structural testing technique on function block diagram (FBD) networks including timer function blocks. In order to test FBD networks including timer function blocks, we generate templates for timer function blocks and transform a unit FBD into a flow-graph using the proposed templates. We apply existing testing techniques to the generated flowgraph and describe how the characteristics of timer function blocks are reflected in the testing process. By the proposed method, FBD networks including timer function blocks can be tested thoroughly without the intermediate code which was essential in the previous FBD testing. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we use a trip logic of bistable processor of digital plant protection systems which is being developed in Korea.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125784258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although there are several tools for timing verification of logics with branching time semantics, there are no known model checkers for timing verification of logics with linear time semantics as needed for many verification tasks. This work deals with timing verification of UML activity diagram models of applications. We propose a subset of TPTL (timed prepositional temporal logic) for specifying timing queries. We develop an automata based model checker for verifying such queries. We present a comparison of the proposed timing verification with the state of the art for random test-cases.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124871647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

BPEL provide a mechanism to model business workflow among collaborating Web Services distributed across organizations. For effective execution and consistent outcomes from such composite services in a loosely coupled environment, management of state, transaction, notification and execution monitoring are the key requirements. After the emergence of WS-RF, stateful Web services have become integral part of Grid environment. Grid supports execution monitoring, resource sharing, integration and management of large-scale applications. Such capabilities are the backbone for any large-scale enterprise applications. Process oriented workflow execution in a grid environment with the support to manage state, transaction and notification is a challenging issue. In this paper we have proposed architecture to achieve integration of stateful services for a grid workflow. Development of stateful services is based on WS-RF specification to build services to support state management, transaction, notification and execution monitoring of a business process in a large-scale grid environment.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126824163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since a principal role of embedded software is the interaction with its environments, architectures that describe the dynamic aspects are also needed. Although such architectural view is significantly important in embedded software development, the existing approaches do not practically guide the architectural design based on the dynamic aspects. In this paper, we propose an operational architecture to represent the dynamic aspects of an embedded software. Also we explain how to use our operational architecture in the process of embedded software modeling. Our operational architecture effectively reflects interaction-based dynamic behavior of the system, and gives traceability between requirements and design model.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130173397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, methods for carrying out dynamic updates are needed. However, correctness of the system during and after every dynamic update needs to be ensured. This paper defines two safety criteria, type consistency and isolation of process execution/or dynamic software update. Updates involving one or more insertions of new classes, removals of old classes and replacements of old classes are considered. The condition for producing a type safe update schedule is defined. The parts of the program whose executions have to be isolated from process update are annotated by the user. Conditions are also provided for ensuring isolation of the update process from execution of annotated parts of the program.","PeriodicalId":341929,"journal":{"name":"2006 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC'06)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130228771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, the paper proposes the first results of a model-driven approach for the development of applications based on heterogeneous physical active objects.
