Their mental health is worsening in these terrible times of pandemic. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate a relationship between fear of COVID-19 and psychological distress, and whether this relationship was mediated by social interaction anxiety. A cross-sectional research design was used to recruit online 200 university students of Lahore, Pakistan through Google docs via purposive sampling technique by introducing them to a demographic questionnaire consisting of fear of COVID-19, social interaction anxiety and psychological distress scales respectively. The sample included both male and female students (men =53%, women =46%) whose age ranged from 17-24 years (M = 21.04, SD = 2.52). Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 25. Pearson Product moment correlation and mediation analysis were used to analyze data. It was found that there was a significant positive association between fear of COVID-19 and psychological distress. The findings also revealed that social interaction anxiety fully mediated the association between psychological distress and fear of COVID-19. It is recommended that counselors and psychologists develop social support programs that can assist students to manage themselves well in the present pandemic environment.","PeriodicalId":341215,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional & Applied Psychology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131015025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The non-probability purposive sampling technique with survey research design had been used for data collection. Pakistani children with age ranged 4-6 years (Mage = 5.29) were recruited who?took two false belief tasks.?To tap into peer relationship of these children, their parents completed?strength and difficulty?questionnaire. For demographic variables, descriptive statistics was used. Pearson product correlation and linear regression were used to test the hypothesis. Results revealed that performance of 6 years 6 months and older was above chance on all false belief tasks, supporting the universality of ToM development with different age ranges in different cultures. Also, theory of mind negatively predicted peer relationship?problems?of this sample, revealing real life implication of mentalizing for interaction in social world. Research indicated that false belief comprehension is key to better social adjustment and the participants of this study also showed that a child's understanding of mental state terms is critical for better social adaptation.","PeriodicalId":341215,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional & Applied Psychology","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116933728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, health care professionals are at great risk of being contaminated by this life-threatening virus; consequently, they may prone to fear and anxiety related to COVID-19 situation. Thus, the present study aimed to examine the coping strategies as predictors of COVID-19 in general physicians of Faisalabad. The present correlational study was done on general physicians working in the outpatient departments of public and private sector hospitals of Faisalabad, Pakistan. Demographic Information Form, Brief Cope Scale and COVID-19 related Anxiety Scale were used to meet the present objectives. Multiple regression analysis revealed  active coping (? = -.247, t(118) = -2.446, p < .05), venting (? = .332, t(118) = 3.959, p < .001), religion (? = -.274, t(118) = -3.058, p < .01), emotional support (? =.207, t(118) = 2.085, p < .05), behavioral disengagement (? = .336, t(118) = 3.873, p < .001), humor (? = -.199, t(118) = -2.659, p < .01) and substance use (? = .363, t(118) = 4.158, p < .001) as significant predictors of COVID-19 related anxiety in general physicians. Three types of coping strategies seemed effective in overcoming COVID-19 related anxiety among general physicians. However, venting, behavioral disengagement, emotional support and substance abuse may decrease the COVID-19 related anxiety, if are used less by general physicians at work. The present findings have implications for general physicians who need to use coping strategies which may effectively reduce their anxiety associated with COVID-19 situation.","PeriodicalId":341215,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional & Applied Psychology","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114333431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eight in-depth, detailed and semi-structured interviews were conducted with female athletes, whereas, the preliminary item pool of twenty items was administered on 125 female university athletes. The age was 18-24 years (M= 21, SD=1.6). The process of scale development depended upon two phases. The first phase was about construct conceptualization through interviews and the second phase consisted of examining factor structure and reliability of the scale. Perceived Stigmatization in Sports Scale for Female Athletes was developed in Urdu. Total 20 items were developed but the final scale included 18 items with five-point rating scale. On the basis of scree plot and Eigen values, three factors were extracted: Family Stigmatization included 6 items and had .82 reliability, Social Stigmatization included 5 items and had .75 reliability and Effect on Performance included 7 items and had .76 reliability. The overall Cronbach alpha value was .88. The findings of the study tended to investigate factors affecting the perceived stigmatization associated with female athletes and these results would help in providing awareness regarding challenges being faced by female athletes in their respective sports.","PeriodicalId":341215,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional & Applied Psychology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129764887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In total, 347 youth were selected using multi-stage random sampling from three major cities of Punjab province in Pakistan (Rawalpindi, Lahore, & Faisalabad). The average age remained [M (22.70+3.43)]. Two instruments were used; The Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test and Yockey Academic Procrastination Scale Short Form, while academic performance was calculated considering semester grade point average (SGPA). The results showed that emotional intelligence was significant positively correlated with academic performance. In mediation, Process Macro Hayes (2018) approach was used. The results showed that academic procrastination endured significant negative mediator in relationship of emotional intelligence and academic performance. The female youth were significantly higher in academic performance and emotional intelligence as compared to male youth, while male youth were significantly higher in academic procrastination. Emotional intelligence increases the academic performance and reduces academic procrastination among university students, while academic procrastination endured negative mediator between emotional intelligence and academic procrastination. Males have more prone towards academic procrastination and reported lower emotional intelligence and academic performance as compared to females. The limitations and future avenues were also discussed.","PeriodicalId":341215,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional & Applied Psychology","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127140527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
