Therefore as peculiarities of the Turkish case, it investigates the changes generated by the modernization initiated by the Ottoman elite in the first decades of the 19th century and carried on by the nationalists after the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923. Focused on the power dynamics underlying the relation between the sexes and gender equilibrium, the article will also consider the most important forms of participation and political activities, which above all in the last decades of the 20th century attest to the controversial and incomplete advancement of Turkish women towards the affirmation of their subjectivity.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125517122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considered one of the most original Turkish woman novelists, Tekin distinguished her writing in the 1980s by a specific representation of Istanbul and its cityscapes. I will illustrate how this novel was both aesthetically and politically conceived to reproduce the alienation of Anatolian rural migrants from an urban space and culture and their “peripheral” perspective on the city. I will focus on Tekin’s strategies of representing the city from women migrants’ points of view as a locus of feminine subordination, exclusion and alienation, both economically and morally, from urban space.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120994801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The European rose dominates her early poems as a symbol of passion at first and then of frustrated maternity, in contrast to the fertile and dehiscent nature of this South American country. After her husband’s untimely death, allusions to her native Canarian seascape – on which she might have modelled her impressions and perceptions – become more and more frequent, and her own anatomy is often replaced by the topography of the tiny, rocky and desert islands where she spent her childhood, absorbing from the sea not only her thirst for new horizons but also a salty, painful destiny. Landscape, considered as a fragment of nature or as a picture, becomes a metaphor of life itself, which the poetess regards as a definite, framed manifestation of absolute Time and Space.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134326004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present essay highlights the originality of her Midwives Book (1671) in comparison with the previous male treatises, showing how she consciously exploited her male counterparts’ works, often taking position against them. In pursuing this purpose, the article analyzes the functions attributed to the use of a metaphorical language, identifying some specific rhetorical strategies: in particular way, Sharp’s insistence on her own visual experience as a certification of truth, and her use of metaphors taken from the natural world. Thus, the Midwives Book seems to take the shape of an “experiential journey” in the woman’s body which, in Sharp’s words, is no more the territory of mere speculation, but a real landscape, seen, contemplated, explored and described.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124232477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La manifestazione è stata ideata e promossa dall’Associazione Archivio per la memoria e la scrittura delle donne “Alessandra Contini Bonacossi”, in collaborazione con l’Archivio di Stato, il Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature e Studi Interculturali e l’Istituto Confucio presso l’Università degli Studi di Firenze. Nell’auditorium, nella sala delle mostre e nella galleria dell’Archivio di Stato si sono avvicendati conferenze, eventi di poesia, di teatro, di danza, lungo un percorso in cui si incontravano preziose carte nautiche del XV e XVI secolo, “libri” di artiste contemporanee, documenti fotografici, frammenti letterari, suoni e sequenze di immagini, attorno al tema dei Luoghi. Luoghi della memoria e dell’immaginario, costruiti con materiali diversi: scritture autobiografiche, poesie, prose, visioni, lettere, dialoganti con opere d’arte su supporti e materiali diversi. In quell’occasione abbiamo presentato per la prima volta in forma embrionale il Parco virtuale Dove Non Dove, che essendo stato concepito come un work in progress continua a crescere e svilupparsi, con testi di poesia e prosa, scritture autobiografiche, reportages di viaggio in lingua originale e in traduzione italiana e inglese (), che danno vita a una planimetria variegata, polifonica e interculturale. Si possono seguire vari itinerari che vanno dalle pellegrine dei primi secoli cristiani alle archeologhe italiane della Scuola di Atene del primo Novecento, dalle mistiche occidentali del Seicento alle artiste surrealiste. Molto ampio lo spazio dato a scrittrici dell’età moderna e contemporanea. Un momento centrale del Festival è stato il seminario di studi Tra/ locando, curato scientificamente e coordinato da Diego Salvadori, al quale hanno partecipato alcuni dottori di ricerca del Dottorato in Lingue Letterature e Culture comparate dell’Università di Firenze (Luca Baratta, The Midwives Book di Jane Sharp (1671): paesaggi anatomici in un manuale di ostetricia del LEA Lingue e letterature d’Oriente e d’Occidente, n. 6 (2017), pp. 225-226 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.13128/LEA-1824-484x-22342","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"1992 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125525865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
