The cognitive effects of the making process help participants express tacit knowledge, and surface assumptions that may have otherwise gone unnoticed and unchallenged. Within design thinking workshops, the collaborative act of hands-on making helps mediate power dynamics and contributes to social learning. As ideas are explored, prototyping supports a speculative discussion about possible and preferable futures. This collaborative process of shared meaning-making helps give agency to previously excluded voices, such as youth and minorities, and has implications for socially inclusive practices. These ideas are discussed and illustrated verbally and visually.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125243203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Striking examples of singing and performing translators can be found in multicultural Australia. They direct Italian Australian folk choirs and transform, enrich, and enhance the Italian folk repertoire and cultural traditions across continental borders and language barriers. By applying methodological approaches, at the crossroads between translation and performance, theorized by Maria Tymoczko (1995), Barbara Godard (2000), and Sandra Bermann (2014), we will demonstrate how cross-cultural and mobile folk performances and traditions are connecting communities in contemporary Australia.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133786105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of the essay is the historical dimension of space in West’s poems. The images of Italian and Australian places, both landscapes and cityscapes, evoke forms through which Italian and Australian nature and culture declare their presence through multiple layers of time. The poems deal with the relationship between past and space, the movement between past and present, and between the physical and the metaphysical. In the evocations of such crossings Australia and Italy meet in an in-between space that the reader is invited to share.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114907993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the early nineteenth century historic scenario, in which Albania was reduced to a mere geographic expression within the Turkish-Ottoman Empire by centuries long oppressive foreign domination, the Italian-Albanian community (or Arbereshe) brought about an important movement of “awakening” of identity, better known as the movement of the “Rilindja” (Rebirth). The leading exponent of this literary movement was the Calabrian-Albanian Girolamo De Rada (1814-1903) who published in Naples in 1836 Canti di Milosao, when he was just twenty-two. The poem marks the entrance of Albanian literature into modernity and represents one of the highest literary expressions not only of Arberesh (Italian-Albanian) literature and of Albanian literature but also of all European romantic literature.","PeriodicalId":340115,"journal":{"name":"LEA : Lingue e Letterature d'Oriente e d'Occidente","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127193403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
