We have found that the edges of the phase wedge generate macroscopic chains of identical optical vortices that disappear at the far field zone. At the same time, the π -phase plate can reproduce a very complex wave field whose structure depends on the scale of observation. At large scales there appear two π -cuts resembling broken edge dislocations with perpendicular directions. At small (some microns) scales two short vortex chains consisting of alternating-sign optical vortices are nucleated near the corner of the wedge. The analysis shows that the sizes of the chains decrease quickly when approaching the wedge surface. This enables us to assume that the π -phase plate can create so-called optical quarks in the evanescent waves of the edge field. On the basis of theoretical considerations experiment was conducted in which were obtained fractions optical vortices at the edge of the phase wedge.","PeriodicalId":339550,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 2nd International Workshop \"Nonlinear Photonics\" (NLP*2013)","volume":"258 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116419182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four types of the laser vector solitons are found which have distinct spatial distribution of polarization states containing polarization topological defects, namely: points of circular polarizations (C-points) and lines of linear polarizations (L-lines). The disordered system supports two distinct types of modes: high energy modes experience conventional Anderson localization. Low energy modes have a much shorter localization length, but are also highly sparse, consisting of multiple, well-separated peaks. Nonlinearity introduces different regimes of wavepacket spreading, determined by which types or modes are strongly coupled together. The spreading of localized excitations can either be massively enhanced, or suppressed, depending on the strength of nonlinearity.","PeriodicalId":339550,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 2nd International Workshop \"Nonlinear Photonics\" (NLP*2013)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124113352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we perform a linear stability analysis of these higher-order solitons by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations numerically. This enables us to understand the emergence of a new oscillatory state as a growing unstable mode of a higher-order soliton. Using dynamically important states as a basis, we provide low-dimensional visualizations of the dynamics and identify quasiperiodic and homoclinic orbits, linking the latter to shape-transformations.","PeriodicalId":339550,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 2nd International Workshop \"Nonlinear Photonics\" (NLP*2013)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131719853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although outwardly this sequence is similar to the lines occurrence of plain SRS but its origin and mechanism is different. The main difference is that SRS in MSM is part of coupled process SRS and random lasing (RL) and therefore it is stimulated by RL. This difference causes specific characteristics of SRS in MSM. In contrast to plain SRS where sequentially appearing SRS lines correspond to consecutive Stokes component of the same molecule vibration, all SRS lines in dyed MSM correspond to first Stokes components of different bonds of dye molecule. Consecutive order of SRS lines appearing in MSM is caused not pumping of next SRS component by radiation of previous one but by RL spectrum spreading to the long wave direction under pump intensity.","PeriodicalId":339550,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 2nd International Workshop \"Nonlinear Photonics\" (NLP*2013)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117174556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
