Due to this, there is a high risk of interference, which degrades the performance and fails to support Quality of Service (QoS) for systems operating in these bands. Therefore, spectrum sharing between coexisting competing wireless systems is an upcoming challenge. In this paper, a 'Scenario Matrix' is drawn to highlight the research directions in context of coexistence scenarios. Then a spectrum sharing concept is proposed, which can be applied generally to all scenario elements of the matrix. The concept has the potential to be realized as policy-based and cognitive spectrum sharing. In the framework of this paper, the proposed concept is adapted for coexisting Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) in a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) usage scenario where QoS support is required. In this case, IEEE 802.11e Hybrid Coordination Function (HCF) controlled channel access (HCCA) is used to provide a decision method for sharing the airtime among more than one system. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides fair sharing with an excellent QoS support. OPS is expected to support the radically increasing bandwidth demands of the Next Generation Internet backbone. Since realtime applications demand various but certain levels of Quality of Service (QoS), optical networks based on OPS should provide service differentiation. In this paper we investigate the performance of an all-optical packet switch, in terms of the packet blocking probability. We analyse several QoS differentiation schemes, including wavelength conversion, packet dropping and wavelength reservation. The project is part of our on-going efforts to address arguments that such embedded critical thinking (CT) should play a central role within the ecology of 21st Century e-learning environments. The proposed design takes account of the Type I & II [20] characterization of more advanced learning objects that support active learning,better involve students in how things happen, provide an extensive range of acceptable responses, involve creative tasks and require extended periods of time to complete. The pair of projects described here involves developing 12 modular learning objects and supporting videos that address these worthwhile design characteristics and in addition embed the Canadian-based Critical Thinking Consortium’s (TC)2 pedagogy of critical thinking. This is accomplished through our proposed Type III design by providing opportunities to engage in critical inquiry about content knowledge, involve students in critical dialogue, and encouraging critical reflection. In addition, the strategies offer the means for teaching other “tools for thought” such as the use of criteria for judgment, habits of mind, and thinking concepts such as attributing causal connections, drawing warranted inferences from statistical data, and interpreting images. Recent studies have proposed four major sensing methods, including matched filter, energy, feature, and eigenvalue-based detectors. However, there are some drawbacks along with them. In this paper, we propose a hybrid architecture, associating energy and cyclostationary detectors, for spectrum sensing that improves the ability of conventional energy detector to detect the primary user in the presence of noise uncertainty. Design decisions made during the development process, and the resulting characteristics of software product are discussed. Some characteristics of FSM-based framework that has been used in development are presented. We compare quantitatively our implementation with a well known open source SIP implementation, resiprocate. Comparison is focused on the following parameters: lines of code (LOC) and cyclomatic complexity. The architecture is composed of multiple cognitive radio base stations, and the state of the system depends on the activity of primary and secondary users in each cell. An analytical model for Cognitive Radio Network with multiple cells is developed and performance metrics like the probabilities of dropping and blocking for primary and secondary users as well as forced termination and forced frequency handoff for secondary users are investigated. The analytical model is also verified with simulations. The elementary events cause changes in the current state of the whole system. Cell dwell time and frequency holding time are used to determine the handoff behavior of the users. The proposed model is analyzed via simulations to estimate the performance metrics. All such papers do not deal with wireless simulation approaches, and simulation is only seen as a side-means to produce numerical results. This paper does not present simulation numerical predictions. It instead deals with new simulation approaches for wireless systems and presents simulation software technologies. From the approach point of view, the “local” versus the “ distributed” simulation approach is investigated to wireless systems. From the technology point of view, two new software tools are presented, for a step forward with respect to existing tools to ease the development of distributed simulation systems. The tools consist of a new distributed simulation environment (wDSEnv) and a new distributed simulation language (wDSLang). Normally, video coding technologies compress video contents by removing similarities inherent in the video contents, so that it causes dependencies among the packets. It eventually results in inequality in terms of influence on video distortion, so that unequal protection is required to achieve better performance. As one way to impose priority on the compressed video packets, this paper proposes to set target bit error rate according to the influence of each packet. We modified an existing multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system to consider the target bit error rate imposed on each packet when allocating sub channels. For the same resulting video distortion, proposed system with the adaptive target bit error rate roughly doubled channel capacity from a system with fixed target bit error rate, where a specific circumstances of transmit power and bandwidth in this paper is assumed. This sensor is a fundamental part of the so-called Blind Standard Recognition Sensor. The blind standard bandwidth sensor is based on a Radial Basis Function Neuronal Network designed in Matlab. The SDR4all driver offers a simple yet efficient interface between the Matlab signal processing codes and the USRP transmitting and receiving platforms. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that simple and easily accessible software defined radio tools were used to design and implement this sensor.
