Local entropy rates signify loss mechanisms, crucial for cell design and optimization. A semi-2D SOEC model based on non-equilibrium thermodynamics is developed, supplemented by monocausal correlations for direct comparison. The model is validated using KeraCell III data and grid independence analysis. Simulations of electric current density, temperature, heat flow, and local entropy production for various SOEC operating modes are presented. Coupled transport mechanisms significance is discussed, highlighting the pronounced impact of the Peltier effect on heat flux and temperature. The importance of the Peltier effect in SOECs compared to SOFCs is emphasised. The effects of the Seebeck effect on the potential distribution are superimposed by the dominant ohmic losses in the electrolyte. The localization of entropy production rates shows for exothermic operation that 66.6% of the total losses are due to the predominantly dominant irreversible ion transport in the electrolyte, while the entanglements in the reaction layers contribute 33% and GDLs less than 1%.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"59 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139451373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

P-type crystalline undoped and Mg-doped CuCrO2 films were obtained within a few minutes by annealing with halogen lamp between 550 and 650°C in Ar atmosphere. Transport properties of Mg-doped thin films were comparable to furnace-annealed samples despite much shorter annealing times. The results demonstrate that post-annealing of chemically-deposited samples using light irradiation is an effective and fast method for obtaining transparent conducting delafossite thin films.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"132 28","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the effect of Ti doping concentration on the chemical bonding and electrical properties of the Ti-doped ZrO2 thin films was studied. O3 was used at a high concentration of 400 g/m3. We varied the Ti doping concentration by controlling the rate of the supercycle process in the ZrO2 process window of 200-300°C. As a result, the highest dielectric constant was observed at a Ti doping concentration of 2.5% because it enhances the crystallinity of ZrO. Excessive Ti doping hinders crystal formation.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"33 36","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139388703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we explore the extent and severity of e-mobility battery fires resulting from a single cell thermal runaway failure and evaluate various suppression techniques a user may attempt to implement if they experience a battery fire at home. We tested a household water hose as well as different fire blankets deployed both before the forced thermal runaway event and after initiation. The water hose was unable to supply a sufficient amount of water to extinguish the thermal event, however, the average pack temperature was decreased and the cell-to-cell propagation rate was slowed. Neither fire blanket tested was able to contain the flames or debris ejected from the battery packs and both acted to hold in the heat from the event, increasing the temperature, rather than allow it to dissipate. In addition, we also demonstrated how various design approaches, such as added thermal insulation between cells, can help prevent cell-to-cell propagation and reduce the severity of a battery pack failure.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"29 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139389227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article summarizes the results of our research about the effect of graphene oxide KOH-catalyzed activation on their specific surface area (SSA) and their capacitance, both strongly related to their electrochemical performance. KOH-catalyzed activation increased the SSA values of the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) from ∼783 m2 g−1 to ∼2144 m2 g−1; it is important to note that the SSA and oxygen-containing groups are two important factors determining electrochemical performance. Moreover, the highest capacitance value was 50.08 F g−1, using 1.0 M H2SO4 as an aqueous electrolyte. Activated graphene-based materials with high SSA support conductive networks decorated with oxygen groups synergistically improve charge storage capability in EDLCs.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"39 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139175726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed electrocatalysts are tested in an alkaline solution (1 M KOH); the results show that Ar/H2 (95:5) plasma treatment significantly improves the electrocatalytic activity of RuCo/ANF, achieving an overpotential of 98 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry analyses shSow a large reduction in the charge transfer impedance and a significant increase in the electric double-layer capacitance. It is known that partial substitution of Ni with Co generates more free electron and alter the CoSb3 into a stable n-type skutterudite. In this work, we used In as a filler with Yb and as a partial substitution of Sb in Co3.85Ni0.15Sb12. All alloys have been synthesized by solid-state reaction method and hot press processes. The Seebeck coefficient varies from 160 μVK−1 to 200 μVK−1 in Yb0.3Co3.85Ni0.15Sb11.5In0.5; however, it exhibits the highest charge carrier concentration. Yb0.3Co3.85Ni0.15Sb11.5In0.5 exhibits the highest power factor of 3.9 mW−1K−2 at 723 K, which is 20% and 15% larger than a single-filled and double-filled Ni-doped system respectively. The suitable amount of In doped with Sb in a Ni-doped single-filled skutterudite system resulted is not only an improvement of the thermopower but also a decrease of the thermal conductivity due to enhanced point-defect scattering and increased electron-phonon interaction. Hence Yb0.3Co3.85Ni0.15Sb11.5In0.5 exhibits a maximum zT of 1.25 which is 25% higher than Yb0.2In0.2, Co3.85Ni0.5Sb12. Therefore, indium is also a good option to use as a substitution, n-type skutterudite compared to use as a filler.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139212870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SEM imaging and angle resolved optical transmission spectroscopy are used to investigate the evolution of the PBG along a thickness gradient for opals grown from five different colloidal sphere concentrations at two different evaporation rates. The degradation of structural order along the thickness gradient is demonstrated, the occurrence of which attenuates the PBG with the thinning of the opal film and results in asymmetrical angle-resolved transmission spectra. The asymmetry in transmission intensity becomes more pronounced for opals grown from lower volume fractions, where secondary Bragg reflections also appear at low incident angles.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"26 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139268293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The immunosensor was fabricated by modifying one-dimensional nanomaterial CePO4 nanotubes, electrodepositing poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene layer, anchoring monoclonal antibodies to PSA, and blocking with bovine serum albumin on the surface of the indium tin oxide sheet. The morphologies and electrochemical performance of the electrochemical sensor were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. For PSA, it exhibits a wide dynamic range from 0.1 ng mL-1 to 100 ng mL-1 and a detection limit of 0.012 ng mL-1 (at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3) with differential pulse voltammetry. Average recoveries from rat serum (a simulated human serum) are between 97.00% – 103.17% with relative standard derivations less than 4.25% (n = 3) at three spiked levels. Moreover, it shows high reproducibility, well selectivity, and good stability.
