Recovering the thread structure is valuable since it makes it possible to isolate discussion related to specific subtopics or related to particular conversational goals. In prior work, thread structure has been reconstructed using explicit meta-data features such as posted by and reply to relationships. The contribution of this paper is a novel approach to recovering thread structure in discussion forums where this explicit meta-data is missing. This approach uses a graph-based representation of a collection of messages where connections between messages are postulated based on inter-message similarity. We evaluate three variations of this simple baseline approach that exploit in different ways the temporal relationships between messages. The results show that the three proposed approaches outperform the simple threshold-cut baseline.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130901366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How do users make sense of this information? In our first study, we provide evidence that users spontaneously make personality trait inferences about people from profiles they encounter online, and for certain profiles, preferentially remember this inferred trait content over actual profile content. Study 2 uses several measures of profile coherence to assess how the coherence of user profiles interacts with trait inferences to influence memory for profiles. Findings provide a better understanding of specific profile content that makes profiles memorable and the social-cognitive process utilized when extracting information from profiles.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132534577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Blog track was introduced in 2006 as part of the renowned Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) evaluation forum, to drive research on the blogosphere and to facilitate experimentation and evaluation of blog search techniques. This paper reports on two years of the Blog track at TREC. We describe the blog search tasks investigated at TREC, and discuss the main lessons we learnt from the track. We conclude the paper with discussions of the broader implications of the Blog track lessons and possible directions for the future, with the aim to uncover and explore the richness of information available in the blogosphere.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"11 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114047643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One such social practice is the enactment and creation of Wikipedian policies. We focus on the enactment of policies in discussions on the talk pages that accompany each article. These policy citations are a valuable micro-to-macro connection between everyday action, communal norms and the governance structure of Wikipedia. We find that policies are widely used by registered users and administrators, that their use is converging and stabilizing in and across these groups, and that their use illustrates the growing importance of certain classes of work, in particular source attribution. We also find that participation in Wikipedia's governance structure is inclusionary in practice.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116908542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While previous work has studied bloggers' practices with respect to negotiating privacy, little research has been done on the ways in which readers of blogs perceive privacy in blogs. This poster presents results from a qualitative study of blog readers, describing how privacy is connected with contextual appropriateness, personal content, and perceptions of online and offline identity. These results are compared to previous, blogger-oriented findings in order to work towards a more complete understanding of privacy related perceptions and practices in blogging.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128188949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The structure behind these social systems, called folksonomies, can be viewed as a tripartite hypergraph of user, tag and resource nodes. This underlying network shows specific structural properties that explain its growth and the possibility of serendipitous exploration. Search engines filter the vast information of the web. Queries describe a user's information need. In response to the displayed results of the search engine, users click on the links of the result page as they expect the answer to be of relevance. The clickdata can be represented as a folksonomy in which queries are descriptions of clicked URLs. This poster analyzes the topological characteristics of the resulting tripartite hypergraph of queries, users and bookmarks of two query logs and compares it two a snapshot of the folksonomy del.icio.us.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121585646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our method identifies URLs of topics and the bloggers who trigger topic diffusion. Our assumption is that the strength of propagation of a topic is determined by the influences of topics and bloggers. This decomposition is attained through singular value decomposition (SVD); We construct a diffusion matrix: the first left and right singular vectors are regarded respectively as the influences of the topics and the bloggers. We show that our method can extract propagative topics (which is not bursty because of the media effect) as well as the influential bloggers.","PeriodicalId":338112,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media","volume":"356 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132830964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
