Many mechanisms are being used, and even more have been published. In order to be able to compare them, a suitable classification is needed. In this paper, three disjoint classification schemes are proposed, which aim to be hierarchical, simple, and based on criteria that are as orthogonal as possible. Among them, the classification of control algorithm is the most elaborate. A simple notation to present te classification of algorithms is also given. The classification of several well-known control algorithms is presented.","PeriodicalId":337983,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. In countries with high temperatures and high solar radiation, the transformer rating can be increased by solar shield preventing the heating through solar radiation. For 237 transformers (HV/MV) the influencing factors are discussed and analyzed and a cost comparison and economic evaluation was carried out. The results indicated that solar shielding is applicable for transformers with rating above 18MVA, as the cost for the shields will be lower than the cost benefit for the expected transformer life time of 20 years.","PeriodicalId":337983,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. After demonstrating that the Torque Disturbance Observer (TDO) is equivalent to a particular acceleration control, the robustness of a servo system endowed with TDO is analyzed. Then it is shown that the deliberate set-up of a Feedback Acceleration Control (FAC) offers the designer more chances and theoretically brings the robustness of a servo system up to infinite. In practice, the physical constraint on the peak value of the servo current limits the achievable robustness. Taking into account such a constraint, it is proved that, compared to TDO, a suitable design of FAC improves the robustness of a servo system of the ratio between the rated values of peak and dc servo current. Simulation results illustrating the torque disturbance rejection and the current response for the two schemes are reported.","PeriodicalId":337983,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. The distributed parts are formed by multiconductor transmission lines (MTL) which can generally be nonuniform, frequency-dependent, and under nonzero initial conditions. In principle the solution is formulated in terms of a modified nodal admittance (MNA) equation method in the frequency domain. Then an improved fast method of numerical inversion of Laplace transforms (NILT) in vector or matrix form is applied to gain a solution in the time domain. This NILT method is based on the FFT in conjunction with the quotient-difference algorithm of Rutihauser to ensure both high speed of computation and sufficient accuracy of results.","PeriodicalId":337983,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. Glow-wire test apparatus is used for fire hazard testing of household and similar electrical appliances. In the original configuration, the carriage which supports the test specimen has to be manually moved to the glow-wire. In the improved system, a microcontroller is used in conjunction with a stepper motor and optical distance sensor to fully automate the carriage movement. The result is a better objectivity and reduced health hazard for the person performing the test. Sources of uncertainty are also evaluated.","PeriodicalId":337983,"journal":{"name":"The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003.
