The electric and magnetic fields have been computed for different heights ranging from 10 m to 2 km above the ground and for the lateral distances varying from 20 m to 2 km from the lightning return stroke. For airborne vehicles e.g. satellite launch vehicles, missiles etc, it has become necessary to understand the behavior of these when illuminated by a strong electromagnetic fields generated by a near by lightning. The coupling of these fields with the above system could be by means of the leakage of the transient electromagnetic fields through the joints of the vehicles, leakage through the improperly shielded cables, leaks through the edges of closed doors etc. This results the generation of transient voltages and currents with the internal circuitry of such systems. The objective of this work is to compute the fields along the airborne vehicles when excited by plane electromagnetic fields. These plane electromagnetic fields consist of electric and magnetic fields, where the fields could get modified at different heights from the ground plane and for different distances from the lightning channel.","PeriodicalId":337759,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Power Systems","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128298931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

V.) ageing test on five different epoxy insulators under different voltage and temperature conditions. Also the effect of temperate is monitored for PD according to the IS: 11322-1985 manual and IOP publication 35 {IOP report publication 35(2002) 33–39} as a matter of investigation on material performance. Experiments are carried out on widely employed simple epoxy resin based high-voltage insulation electrode systems having a pin hole (cavity). Before placing epoxy insulator at high voltage assembly it is passed from x-ray unit to check the size of pin hole. Each insulator temperature is regulated from 30°C to 150°C inside thermal chamber during the experiment. On the basis of a previously performed analysis of the ageing mechanism in different solid insulating materials, simple phenomenological aging and life effects are proposed. This gives a new approach and new tool for the problem for future application on electrical components. The investigation and modeling of long term ageing test by studying the effect of parameters (i. e. temperature on PD and energy wasted in the epoxy during ageing) were assumed to be a stress function in the inverse power law.","PeriodicalId":337759,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Power Systems","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128281464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG) technique for selection of participating generators and load buses with respect to a contingency is presented. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique has been employed for generator rescheduling and/or load shedding to the identified generators and loads, to bring back the system from abnormal to normal operating state. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated for different contingency cases in IEEE 57 and modified IEEE 118 bus systems. The result shows that the proposed approach is computationally fast, reliable and efficient, in restoring the system to normal state after a contingency with minimal control actions.","PeriodicalId":337759,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Power Systems","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128116974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is based on shifting eigenvalues of the state matrix of system to the left hand-side of s plane. It is found that this proposed controller is an extended state of linear optimal controller with prescribed degree of stability. A proposed design, which is presented in this paper, has been developed in order to control of severe sub-synchronous oscillations in a nearby turbine-generator. The proposed strategy is tested on second benchmark model and compared with the optimal full-state feedback method by means of simulation. It is shown that this method creates more suitable damping for these oscillations. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE Second Benchmark system for sub-synchronous resonance studies and the results are verified based on comparison with those obtained from digital computer simulation by MATLAB.","PeriodicalId":337759,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Power Systems","volume":"1474 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120876637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this concern, with the added responsibility of accomplishing it with the resources economically, is a challenge in itself. As stated, the problem thus naturally draws attention to the localization of the components able to contribute to the stepping up of overall voltage in the system. This paper discusses a methodology for the suitable selection of buses for the placement of capacitors wherein the injection of a fixed amount of reactive power into each bus is made to depict a picture of the overall improved voltage in the system for the respective injection at that bus. The reduced Jacobian is used to determine the impact of the reactive power injection in the form of system voltage improvement. The significance however lies in this analysis being done for different operating points of the power system using continuation power flow to choose the optimum location for capacitor to affect maximum voltage improvement in total over a range of operating points. The relevant results are enlisted for the IEEE 14 bus system.","PeriodicalId":337759,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Power Systems","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115269980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
