A simple, fast and efficient way to improve SNR in many cases is to average images. However, image quality appears to be highly variable from one frame to another, and sequences feature large inter-frame global motions due to eye movements. We consider in this paper both global and local motion estimation to deliver enhanced images or to detect vessel activity. We tackle the problem of retinal vessels local motions due to bloodstream. If not accounted for, these motions lead to some blurring of the enhanced image, which in turn degrades image analysis, for instance the estimation of the thickness of the vessels wall or the wall-to-lumen ratio. Interframe local motions need thus to be estimated. We propose to compensate for local motions using a fast optical flow estimation called FOLKI developed at ONERA/DTIM, which combines very fast computational times with a good accuracy. The method is then applied to detect vessel activity. Improvements are demonstrated both in terms of final image quality and of local activity detection, on sequences recorded on Imagine Eyes' rtx1 system.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129059704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We enforce both intrachannel local smoothness of the intensity, and interchannel local similarities of the edges. To describe these local correlations while preserving even the finest image details, we exploit suitable functions of the derivatives of first, second and third order. The solution of the demosaicing problem is defined as the minimizer of a non-convex energy function, accounting for all these constraints plus a data fidelity term. Minimization is performed via an iterative deterministic algorithm, applied to a family of approximating functions, each implicitly referring to meaningful discontinuities. Our method is irrespective of the specific color filter array employed. However, to permit quantitative comparisons with other published results, we tested it in the case of the Bayer CFA, and on the Kodak 24-image set.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130666535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has been intensively used to this aim, as it performs the transcription of the text images into electronic files, allowing display functionalities, indexation, enrichment and broadcasting. However, such software still fails in many configurations, so that the transcription does not reach the required editorial quality (99% of recognition are required for an ergonomic reading). In the OZALID project, we propose to rely on crowdsourcing for correcting OCR results. One main issue is then to determine when the crowdsourcing has reached its limits. For that, we present a feasibility study of an original protocol based on indicators that quantify the recognition quality in both semantic and semiotic ways. These indicators are calculated and followed up during the entire crowdsourcing process until stability. Experimental results show that the proposed observables converge after some correction iterations allowing automatically stopping the crowdsourcing process and dealing with huge amount of data.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131517158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each modality is represented using summary features, namely Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients (audio) and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) (video) within a multi-resolution bag-of-features model. Uniquely, we extend the classical bag-of-words approach over both audio and video feature spaces, whereby we introduce the concept of compressive sensing as a novel methodology for multi-modal fusion via audio-visual feature dimensionality reduction. We perform evaluation over a range of environments showing performance that is both comparable to the state of the art (86%, over ten scene classes) and invariant to a ten-fold dimensionality reduction within the audio-visual feature space using our compressive representation approach.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127881459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work was to describe and determine the feasibility of a methodology for quantitative AF visualization. Based on relative, normalized, gray intensity measures along concentric semi-circles in the nasal and temporal sides of the macula, it provided a combined graphical representation of quantitative BAF and IRAF curves. This method was applied to 8 healthy subjects and 9 cases of achromatopsia, a stationary congenital syndrome of cone photoreceptor dysfunction. Quantitative autofluorescence curves clearly identified a normal pattern in healthy subjects and two different abnormal patterns among the achromatopsia patients, that correlated to existing disease classifications based on retinal morphology assessed by optical coherence tomography.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133587797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main originality of the proposed technique resides in the fuzzy quantification of the salient object in each image in order to guide the semi-supervised learning process during the classification. Indeed, we detect the salient object in each image using soft image abstraction, which allows the subsequent global saliency cues to uniformly highlight entire salient regions. Then, fuzzy quantification was involved for the purpose of improving the correct belonging of pixels to the salient object in each image. For classification, ensemble projection is used, while training a random forest classifier on labeled images with the learned features to classify the unlabeled ones. Experimental results on two challenging large benchmarks show the accuracy and the efficiency of the proposed technique.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"139-140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131422204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the CAP theorem, most of these storage systems rely on Eventual Consistency and do not offer strong consistency by default. In order to offer better performance with acceptable level of consistency, these storage systems offer different consistency options. These consistency options enable the user to choose different tradeoffs between Consistency, Latency and Availability. Hence selecting the right storage system for a given application requires evaluating the performance and possible tradeoffs in advance. In order to help future architects to choose the right system and corresponding tradeoffs for their application, this article describes an extension of the YCSB: Yahoo cloud Services Benchmark that can report the number of stale reads in real time along with its default metrics. Evaluating the number of stale reads of a distributed data storage in real time is a challenging task. Most of existing techniques found in the literature rely on log processing after the test is done, an approach that can be less practical instead of evaluating it at the time of the test itself.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"112 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116636315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If these variations are spatially and temporally homogeneous then the material visual appearance can be represented by a dynamic texture which is a natural extension of classic texture concept including the time as an extra dimension. In this article we present possible way to handle multispectral dynamic textures based on a combination of input data eigen analysis and subsequent processing of temporal mixing coefficients. The proposed method exhibits overall good performance, offers extremely fast synthesis which is not restricted in temporal dimension and simultaneously enables to compress significantly the original measured visual data.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123731013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach to segmentation includes images in temporal domain by creating nodes and edges between consecutive images in order to obtain improved segmentation results and compensate for the high levels of noise in the Terahertz images. The foreground and background pixels are defined to provide hard constraints for segmentation. Graph cuts are thus used to extract the object shapes in absence of any other direct mean of object identification.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130075963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several feature selection performance scores (classification accuracies, Bhattacharyya separability) were tested. The impact of the number of selected bands on classification accuracy was obtained thanks to SFFS, while a band importance measure was derived from intermediate sets of bands tested by GA. Such results are a first step toward the identification of the most suitable spectral bands to design superspectral camera systems dedicated to specific applications (e.g. classification of urban land cover and material maps).","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127661803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
