The following case studies are devoted to their application in biomedicine and they include the use of computational intelligence in EEG and EMG signal processing, image segmentation and registration in orthodontia, the human-machine interaction and the three-dimensional modelling using MS Kinect in diagnostics and treatment of human motion disorders and neurological diseases. Associated comments include remarks and references to the development of modern computational tools, biosensors, wireless communication and data fusion used in assistive technologies and robotic systems. Mathematical tools common to all these applications form the next part of the paper that includes notes to spectral analysis, functional transforms, digital filtering, image enhancement, classification of multi-dimensional signal components and optimization using neural networks. Final remarks emphasize the interdisciplinary significance of the digital signal processing forming the integrating basis of many diverse research areas.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128423495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, the detection of face region is based on the localization of nose tip and integral projection curves. Then, the features resulting from Principle Component Analyses (PCA) followed by Enhanced Fisher Model (EFM) are extracted. Finally, the classification process is performed with two methods, distance measurement L3 and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Experiments are performed on the CASIA3D face database which contains 123 persons under varying illumination and expression. We have tried to examine all the variants associated with our algorithms in order to optimize the maximum our recognition system. The promising results of the experimental evaluation show that our proposed approach achieves a high recognition performance.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132973371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our objective is to design a domain-independent hybrid recommender engine that combines collaborative filtering and CBR in order to generate more accurate and personalized recommendations. Integrating CBR in our recommender system will allow adapting items or creating new ones when there exists no item that meets the needs or the preferences of the user. To ensure the relevancy of the recommendations, it is worthwhile using the general knowledge of the application domain during the different steps of the reasoning process. Since one of our main objectives is to implement a generic and domain-independent recommender system, we propose a reasoning approach based on a generic ontology that provides a top level description of the case structure and the knowledge requirements to execute the CBR steps using common recommendation formalism.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130604363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also generating an increasingly huge amount of data describing users trips. Such datasets may be very useful for the data mining community in order to improve the global performance of the BSS. In this paper, we focus on the resources availability (free docks and available bikes) in the Parisian BSS called Velib'. We analyze a Velib' trip dataset in order to separate the Velib' stations into three categories (balanced, overloaded and underloaded clusters), according to the ratio between arrivals and departures relative to each station, during the whole day. For this purpose, we use the well known Kmeans clustering algorithm, along with the Dynamic Time Wraping (DTW) metric to measure the similarity between the clusters. We choose to update the centers of the clusters using the efficient Dtw Barycenter Averaging (DBA) method.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124041615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, service providers have to provide such guarantees to be in-line with current legislation in data protection and to promote their offered services. We describe preliminary work around an accountability framework, in which we consider the accountability from the design time by providing design principles for accountable services, and an abstract language to describe accountability policies.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115572077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These flood-illuminated images are also of poor contrast. Interpretation of such images is therefore difficult without an appropriate post-processing, which typically includes the registration of the recorded image stack into a mosaic image and the restoration of the latter.We have developed an image registration method in a MAP framework, based on previous work in astronomical imaging, and tailored for the specifics of retinal imaging, more precisely to the fact that the illumination of the retina and the transmission of the instrument is non-homogeneous, which makes conventional registration methods likely to fail. The mosaic image must then be deconvolved in order to visually restore the high-resolution brought by adaptive optics. To this aim, we perform an unsupervised myopic deconvolution that takes into account the 3D nature of the object being imaged. We successfully apply this whole processing chain to experimental in vivo images of retinal vessels.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116733735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Perhaps some of the most salient are the polysemy of natural language labels and the lack of reference anchors or starting points. In this paper we propose a novel interlinking method, called TERA, driven by text annotation. The proposed method consists in annotating the same textual context with two different datasets and comparing the selected RDF resources. We discuss the adequacy of the annotation methods with this particular task and evaluate the precision of the interlinking method in preliminary experiments.","PeriodicalId":337627,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding (IWCIM)","volume":"323 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132169345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
