A mixed graph is defined as one that has both unidirectional and bidirectional links between its nodes. The calculation of pairs of arc-disjoint trees is applied for provisioning survivable multicast requests. The development of algorithms that work efficiently for this kind of networks is important, since in practice the network is modeled as a mixed graph. Simulations show that for the case of mixed-graph networks, the proposed multicast protection algorithm is able to calculate arc-disjoint tree pairs with lower blocking ratio and average cost compared to the existing algorithms, especially for multicast sessions with destination sets that comprise of up to half of the network nodes.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":" 38","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114053255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Often it is not possible to ensure full end-to-end protection. Hence an AP is only an admissible solution if a BP can be calculated such that it shares a minimal number of common nodes with the AP. In the absence of node disjoint path pairs, the existence of parallel edges has to be taken into consideration, because parallel edges could ensure link protection between two adjacent nodes. The potential advantages of using multicriteria models in various routing contexts has been pointed out by several authors. In this paper we present a bicriteria optimization model for calculating APs with maximally disjoint BPs. A network performance study using a real transport network, enabling a comparison of the model results with those of the associated single criterion models, is carried out. The two considered metrics are hop count and load cost. Having calculated an AP, the best BP was subsequently obtained (using the same metric). The network was represented using a directed multi-graph, because the existence of parallel arcs between end nodes had to be explicitly addressed and connection requests for services with asymmetrical bandwidth requirements were also considered. A major objective of this work was the improvement of protected path selection, from a network management point of view, where an answer to clients requests for new connections, in transport networks, has to be answered in less than a second.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"273 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116423561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This transmission technique based mainly on the Impulse-Radio (IR) paradigm, has the potential to deliver high-speed wireless connectivity at low power and low proximity, characteristics that makes it an ideal choice for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The distinct physical layer properties call, however, for innovative solutions at the medium access control (MAC) layer. Various MAC protocols with different objectives were proposed for these pulse-based networks. In this article, we first outline the issues related to MAC layer design relying on an IR-UWB physical layer. Then, we describe several MAC protocols emphasizing their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we identify the cross-layer dependencies between the specified physical and the higher layers of the communication stack and investigate open research issues.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"285 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123433501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since Line correspondences are used to construct the geometric constraint in our algorithm, the calibration target is flexible and any object with straight line boundary can be an appropriate calibration target. The algorithm has two stages. Firstly, the linear solution is estimated by minimizing the algebraic error. Then it is refined by optimizing the geometric error. Two different kinds of geometric distance are discussed and the one using the distance from a laser point to the plane, which is formed by back-projecting from an image line, is chosen. Because the quality of the measurements impacts on the accuracy of the final result, a sampling strategy is also given to obtain high quality measurements and avoid overfitting. Simulation and experimental results validate the proposed algorithm and sampling strategy.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125482344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to get the maximum output with best quality by minimum input and lowest operating costs, the prevention mechanism is proposed to be set up in production. The quality is often studied, however, the prevention mechanism is seldom mentioned or studied further till the issues are found. This paper reports the prevention mechanism with Six Sigma Methodology from the quality management perspective. The key techniques including DMAIC, SPC and MSA are utilized to prevent the unexpected occurrences in the final product. According to the statistical principle, the process capability is checked and the process reliability is evaluated to verify the prevention mechanism. The demonstration on power meter production shows the average failure on line has been decreased 33% and the remedy costs are saved completely after the prevention mechanism in process control is set up.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117245637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Originally resulting ASE spectrum on the output of EDFA is irregular and manipulation with EDFA parameters must be done to make it more flat. Flat optical spectrum of ASE source is an important premise to achieve minimal output power level fluctuations of obtained channels after spectrum slicing operation and provide stable data transmission with BER<;10-10 over the specified fiber optical link length. In this paper we successfully demonstrate the reach improvement by implementation of chromatic dispersion compensation for cost effective spectrum-sliced 16-channel DWDM PON system with data rate 2.5 Gbit/s per channel as well as realization of broadband ASE light source with output power +23 dBm, channel power variation 0.42 dBm and flat spectrum in wavelength range from 1545.32 nm to 1558.98 nm.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123310055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parameters like perceived quality associated with delay times or costs per link usage are usually better expressed via several discrete categories (e.g. service levels ranging from “poor” or even “useless” to “excellent”). The classical reliability model assigns the network a binary state based on connectedness of a given set of distinguished nodes. A vast literature exists for computing and estimating the reliability defined as the expected value of the binary structure function associated with such states. Recent research has also considered diameter constraints yet keeping the binary character of the network state. This paper introduces a model for estimating non-binary discrete network parameters that depend on “distances” defined in terms of path lengths. The model considers an arbitrary number of states associated with such distances. It generalizes previously introduced Monte Carlo simulation methods for reliability estimation to consider other-than-binary distance-dependent states. The suggested method and efficiency improvements relative to crude Monte Carlo are illustrated with a numerical example.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115495631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cost-effective solutions employing an optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) system in the optical line terminal (OLT) have already been proposed, and “PON-tuned” OTDRs are already commercially available. Despite the claims from manufacturers and previous proposals in the literature, precise and reliable fault detection and localization are still unsolved problems for the telecom operators. In this paper, we evaluate the feasibility of obtaining reliable information on fault position and loss by direct inspection of the OTDR trace and via measurements of end-fiber reflectivity devices. Detailed calculations considering usually neglected parameters such as non-uniformity of splitters, fiber bending losses as well as different Rayleigh backscattering factors and fiber attenuation coefficients will be provided and experimentally verified. The limits and reliability of automated solutions for OTDR PON monitoring will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":337446,"journal":{"name":"2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131758150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
