This mini review highlights some aspects of the condition now known as the post-acute or long COVID-19 syndrome that has recently been seen to emerge among a fair percentage of COVID-19 survivors. It asks whether efforts to ensure vitamin D intake or exposure levels can impact one or more manifestations of the post-acute COVID-19 syndrome in some way. Using the key words: Vitamin D, Long COVID or Post-acute COVID-19 the PUBMED, PubMed Central, and Google Scholar were explored for articles of relevance. Described in narrative form, these data reveal that while this topic has not yet been articulated to any degree in most management articles as of December 2022, the challenges to musculoskeletal health alone of post-acute COVID-19 appear to warrant its due consideration.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115025703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a rare autosomal dominant disease and is correlated with the presence of congenital malformation of the bilateral hallux valgus, presence of ossification that appears spontaneously or precipitated by trauma. Method: The search for the respective titles for FOP and Rehabilitation via a bibliographic review in the Pubmed database, the titles and abstracts were discriminated when they did not bring in their content the treatment of this disease. Results and Discussion: The 9-year-old patient comes with complaints of pain in the joints of the shoulders, elbows, cervical and thoracic spine. Slow walking, structural deformities in the axial axis of the cervico-thoracic spine, decreased shoulder abduction up to 15°, limited elbow flexion and extension. The FOP treatment strategy is a comprehensive program of activities to prevent the myriad possibilities of trauma, from avoiding unnecessary surgical procedures, injections and even biopsies. Dry needling or acupuncture techniques are always contraindicated. Hydrotherapy turns out to be another useful tool in the process of preventing and relieving injuries, contributing to physical conditioning in a safe environment with low impact and cardiopulmonary performance. From the clinical observations, there will be indication of orthoses, auxiliary means for locomotion or adapted wheelchairs. Devices with voice command facilitate some daily activities, encouraging music therapy, dance or theater also favors the well-being of these patients. Conclusion: The disease has some striking characteristics that favor early diagnosis. Injury prevention, medical management of acute painful flare-ups, and rehabilitation are pillars of treatment. There is still no curative treatment, however, the determination of a therapeutic plan prevents future trauma and can guarantee an adequate prognosis even though it is difficult and full of functional limitations for patients.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128085938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, many patients do not respond to analgesics or nerve block injections, and many are at risk or unwilling to undergo surgery due to age or underlying disease. We believe that spinal cord stimulation therapy is a new treatment option for orthopedic low back and leg pain. We have performed spinal cord stimulation for chronic intractable pain in patients with thoracolumbar spine compression fractures and lumbar spinal canal stenosis who had lower limb pain and back pain. There are few reports of spinal cord stimulation therapy treatment by orthopedic surgeons. In many cases, medical medications and nerve blocks do not improve the pain, and surgical treatment may be performed. We evaluated whether minimally invasive spinal cord stimulation therapy for orthopedic diseases improves pain by altering blood flow to the lower extremities using thermography. Methods: Thermography and NRS of both lower extremities were measured before and after spinal cord stimulation therapy in 27 patients (15 women and 12 men) with back and leg pain due to thoracolumbar spine compression fracture and lumbar spinal canal stenosis. Results: Thermography showed an increase in body surface temperature of approximately 6°C. NRS showed an average improvement of 6.4. Discussion: Spinal cord stimulation therapy may improve blood flow in both lower limbs and lower back and leg pain, especially for back and leg pain caused by thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture and lumbar spinal canal stenosis, among other orthopedic diseases. Thermography is likely to be useful as an evaluation tool.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114644962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cause is usually trauma to the point where the hypoglossal and vagus intersect. This results in lingual hemiparesis, vocal fold paralysis and dysphagia. Objective: to present the results of speech therapy in a case that evolved with Tapia´s Syndrome after the excision of a tumour in the parapharyngeal space. Case report: male patient, 71 years old, submitted to excision of a Schwannoma in the vagus nerve, with parotid invasion. Evolved with: dysarthria; severe dysphagia; lack of flow control; dysphonia; facial paralysis and dyspnoea. Six months after surgery, thyroplasty and botulinum toxin injections were performed in the cricopharyngeal muscle and salivary glands, which ensured a temporary improvement in voice and control of salivary flow. Results: The rehabilitation process consisted of stimulating the mobility of the muscles responsible for facial mimicry, reintegration of stomatognathic functions, swallowing and voice. After two years of speech therapy, the patient showed improvement in the mobility of the facial mimic muscles, a slight improvement in the vocal pattern, in addition to an improvement in the breathing pattern. Conclusion: despite the limitations and functional complexities encountered in the postoperative period, there was evidence of improvement in the patient’s quality of life after performing clinical procedures combined with the therapeutic process.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131782446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants of the study consisted of thirty (30) student aging 12-14years. They are enrolled in the seventh and eighth grades in one of the schools affiliated with the Northwestern Badia Brigade in the Mafraq region. Among 130 students, they volunteered to participate in the pilot program after obtaining high marks on the Kovacs scale for child and adolescent depression and the self-esteem scale during the first semester of the academic year 2019/2020. The study participants were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The participants in the experimental group (15 students) underwent a pilot program consisting of 10 sessions, while their counterparts in the control group (15 students) were not enrolled in any training. The results of the multivariance analysis showed that there are statistically significant differences on the scale of depression between the two study groups in favor of the experimental group in relation to the overall score of the scale. There is also a statistically significant difference on the scale of self-esteem between the two study groups and in favor of the experimental group, which indicates the efficiency of the indicative program in reducing the depression severity and improving self-esteem feelings. The study recommended the importance of applying the Counseling Programs that are based on the Behavioral Cognitive Approach in Reducing Depression symptoms and low Self-esteem among adolescent students.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130607195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They usually occur between 25-50 years of age. Diagnosis can be made with plain radiography and CT scan studies are helpful for fracture characterization and surgical planning. Treatment is usually conservative and thus early rehabilitation is essential. Case description: During a track cycling competition, a 14-year-old male participant falls. He was assessed by the medical team and evacuated to the nearby hospital for a suspected clavicle fracture. After evaluation and imaging investigation he was diagnosed with a scapular fracture. He was treated with immobilization for 4 weeks, with subsequent rehabilitation. Discussion: The present clinical case emphasizes the importance of correctly identifying a scapular fracture which may be associated with serious life-threatening conditions such as haemothorax or pneumothorax. A well systematised objective examination, early evacuation to hospital and effective imagiological examination as well as a prompt rehabilitation strategy are fundamental for therapeutic success.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115052723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the internal factors are metabolic changes, such as in body composition and interacts with comorbidities given by chronic diseases, including cancer. The role of the physiotherapist is to enhance the maximum achievable movement. Therefore, this review will seek to gather evidence on how physiotherapeutic intervention modifies body composition in pediatric oncology patients Methodology: This study is a retrospective documentary search.1 A search was carried out in PubMed, OVID and PeDro databases. The selection was carried out in three stages, the first was title review, the second abstracts, the third full text reading, and the extraction of information using the PICO format. Results: A total of 789 were found in the search, eliminated by title (n=721), by abstracts (n=56), in the complete reading (n=7). In total (n=5) were included for the final analysis. The result with the highest statistical significance was given in bone density and anthropometric measurements with a (p<0.02). Conclusions: A clear relationship is found between body composition and physiotherapeutic practice in pediatric oncology. The instruments and measures that are used in the evaluation, as well as the interaction modalities, require further research, however, if an intervention such as those found in the reviewed studies, based on movement, is carried out, it would contribute to the improvement of the intervened patient and therefore the improvement of the quality of life of the affected population.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114604936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After a 1-week trial of spinal cord stimulation (SCS), the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) improved from 10 to 5 and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) improved from 76 to 52. The patient was able to lift her legs, and her 210-cm walking time improved from 24.79 s to 15.25 s, which was highly satisfactory. One month after the trial, pain flared up and gait worsened; thus, SCS implantation was performed at the request of the patient and her family. Pain and numbness have subsequently decreased and range of motion has increased. One electrode was implanted in C4 and the other electrode was implanted in Th8. This case suggests that SCS therapy may be useful for central post-stroke pain (CPSP) that involves pain and numbness that affect half of the body.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"64 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128020471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The retrospective review of 98 CPAP patients’ usage data was collected and statistically analysed using ANOVA tests, Chi-squared and Kruskal Wallace testing. Results: The findings showed a small clinically significant difference but no statistically significant differences in usage across the three groups (p>0.05). Combining initiation techniques improved yearly CPAP usage by up to 365 hours. The difference between RESP and APAP average usage was 90 hours a year. No statistically significant difference in usage between the three groups was seen. The APAP pathway is the most cost-effective and significantly reduces the time taken to get on to CPAP treatment. Demographic variables are not found to predict nightly usage. All patients increased in weight over the year. Conclusion: The results demonstrate higher levels of usage when combining initiation techniques, indicating initiation with high levels of interaction with healthcare professionals is beneficial. Significant weight gain across all groups poses the moral question of whether CPAP should be issued prior to initial weight loss attempts.","PeriodicalId":336722,"journal":{"name":"International Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Journal","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114077036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
