This paper presents a novel method to recognize named entities in financial news texts in three steps. First, the domain dictionary is applied to recognize stock names. Second, the full form FNEs are identified by incorporating internal features in a classifier based on Conditional Random Fields. Third, the mutual information, boundary entropy and context features are employed to recognize the abbreviation FNE candidates. The experiments completed on a Chinese financial dataset show that the proposed approach achieves 91.02% precision and 92.77% recall.","PeriodicalId":335296,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123192238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A contour length information based de-noise method is introduced for the hand gesture smooth segmentation and edge contour extraction. In addition, a finger earth mover's distance algorithm is applied with a novel approach to locate the palm image and extract fingertip features. Especially the proposed Lasso algorithm can effectively extract the fingertip feature from a hand contour curve correctly with excellent real-time performance.","PeriodicalId":335296,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics","volume":"44 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123563344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primary design principle involves integrating augmented reality with situated learning to allow users to learn through immersion into a story setting, increasing their interests in learning and improving their learning outcomes. The system features the following characteristics: (a) Key elements of situated learning theory are used to design learning activities and content (b) Augmented reality functions are used to integrate virtual characters into real-life settings. This allows for actual spatial and physical experiences, assisting users to fully immerse in the story and settings, thereby developing student motor and cognitive skills. The Lantern Festival is used as the learning objective of this study, and students from two classes of fourth-grade level at Shengli Elementary School in Tainan City are recruited as the study participant In the experiment, the students are divided into a control group receiving traditional teaching and an experimental group that employs the system developed in this study. Finally, in addition to evaluating questionnaires and multiple intelligences of students, this study aims to assess their pretest and posttest results for determining student learning outcomes.","PeriodicalId":335296,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122072547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The k-means hashing is applied to find compact binary codes for hashing. On the other hand, the iterative quantization hashing has been proposed to find better hash codes by minimizing the quantization error between binary hash code and hash function output values of images. The k-means hashing distorts the hypercube of binary codes to minimize quantization error while the iterative quantization hashing rotates the feature vector of images to minimize the quantization error. The proposed rotated k-means hashing combines the distortion of hypercube with the rotation of feature vector of images for further minimization of quantization error. Experimental results show the RKMH preserves good similarities among images.","PeriodicalId":335296,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121408982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When doctors analyze the diseases, they usually observe the patient health base on the shape, color and size of tongue. In order to decrease the mistake of subjective judgment, we aim to develop an automatic tongue feature detection system that can help the doctor diagnosis in more scientific way. In this work, a novel region-based hierarchical filtering framework is proposed to robustly detect tongue features. One of the important issues of machine learning-based text classification techniques is to reduce the dimension of the document vectors. Different feature selection and feature extraction methods such as mutual information, chi-square test, information gain, PCA, and LSA are compared for assessing Chinese readability. We also compare classification techniques SVM and LDA. In this paper, the concept of neighborhood-assignment consistent set of attribute reduction based on binary relations is first presented and some of its main properties are discussed. Then, a new attribute reduction method based on a neighborhood-assignment discernibility matrix is proposed.
