It is found that SAW resonator having narrow electrode fingers makes transverse leakage of SAW energy suppress around resonant frequency, so that band edge and skirt performance of Tx filter is much improved. For Rx part, new DMS (Double Mode SAW) is proposed which uses inductors and capacitors in the device effectively to realize higher rejection and better cut-off performance. The power limiter takes the form of a 50 /spl Omega/ coplanar waveguide transmission line that can be reversibly driven from the low-loss superconducting state into the high-loss normal state as microwave currents within the device exceed a critical value. This device has demonstrated very low insertion loss (<0.5dB/cm at 70K, 40GHz) and extremely wide bandwidth (constant impedance up to 40 GHz) in the signal-pass state, with variable attenuation in the signal-block state. Switching times for transitions from the signal-pass state to the signal-block state are estimated to be on the order of a nanosecond or less. Reversible operation has been demonstrated for continuous-wave (CW) signals up to 10 W at 3GHz, and for 100 /spl mu/s transient signals up to 100W. This design can significantly reduce power leakage at the plane where the wafer is inserted, which is essential to achieve high Q and ultrahigh power. The array is achieved in an overmoded circular waveguide. The mode being exited and/or controlled by the array is the TE/sub 01/ mode. We hope that the use of an overmoded waveguide and the TE/sub 01/ mode would allow us to extend the power handling capabilities of the device by orders of magnitude beyond the state-of-the-art for semiconductor devices. To the author's knowledge, this is the first 2D leaky wave antenna demonstrated experimentally. The structure can be modelled as a composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line and exhibits both backward and forward leakage. The proposed design procedure, based on the concept of automated CAD of coupled resonator filters, considerably simplifies filter design since, with this approach, the choice of the initial geometrical dimensions is not critical. To increase the computational efficiency, at first optimization is carried out by using multivariate surrogate models derived from full wave analysis; final dimensions are then directly obtained by a rigorous full-wave optimization of the entire structure. The idea is the use of controlled leaps in the time step in order to achieve faster processing. The leaps are numerically stable and may result in significant CPU savings. In addition to the adjustable time step, the procedure becomes more efficient by using model reduction with Schur decomposition. The switch we consider has six paths. From symmetry the whole switch can be designed by considering only two paths. Applying space-mapping to each path does not produce feasible results since the two paths share some common design parameters. A multiple space-mapping algorithm has been developed and applied to design the two switch paths. The algorithm iteratively enhances the coarse model of each path. The enhanced coarse models are then optimized to meet the required specifications. A standard neural model is meaningful only outside the particular range of inputs for which it is trained, and becomes unreliable when used outside this range. This paper presents a robust neural modelling technique incorporating advanced extrapolation to address this problem. A new process is incorporated in training to formulate a set of base points to represent a regular or irregular training region. An adaptive base point selection method is developed to identify the most significant subset of base points upon any given value of model input. This method is combined with quadratic extrapolation utilizing neural network outputs and their derivatives. The proposed technique is demonstrated by examples of neural based design solution space analysis of coupled transmission lines and neural based behaviour modelling and simulation of power amplifiers.
