Linear zero-forcing (ZF) precoder is able to achieve the near-optimal capacity performance, once the massive MIMO channel matrix presents the property of asymptotic orthogonality. However, ZF precoder involves large matrix inversion with high complexity, especially when the number of users increases. In this paper, in order to avoid the habitual matrix inversion, we propose a novel low-complexity near-optimal precoder based on the Gram-Schmidt conjugate direction (GSCD) iterative method, which reduces the complexity from O(K3) to O(K2), where K is the number of users. Besides, a simple approach to determine the convergence rate achieved by GSCD-based precoder is obtained by exploiting the massive MIMO channel property of asymptotic orthogonality, which reveals that the proposed precoder converges faster with the increasing number of BS antennas. Numerical results reveal that GSCD-based precoder achieves the near-optimal capacity of the ZF precoder with a reduced number of iterations.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134139601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the main challenge facing this development is the variations of the parameters in the plant, which are expected to change even up to an 80% of their nominal values. This parametric variation presents greater difficulty when applying controllers. This paper presents the design and evaluation of two robust controllers, the Nonlinear PID controller and the Dynamic Sliding Mode Controller. The simulation scenarios consider the intake of 3 meals per day and different parametric variation. The performance analysis shows that NPID maintains blood glucose levels in its set-point zone better than the DSMC. Finally, the controllers are tested in the UVA/Padova metabolic simulator obtaining the 100% of the patients in the safe range.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"34 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124465329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system can operate in three different modes: APF, APF+PV and APF+PV+Px, which means the system functions as APF extracting the necessary energy to compensate harmonics and unbalances entirely from the grid, the second mode means that this energy is extracted from the PV, and the last mode allows to use all the power available in the PV system to feed the load, support the APF and to export PV energy to the grid. The system includes a PV generator, a DC/DC converter controlled with MPPT, and a voltage source converter (VSC) acting as APF. P-Q Theory algorithm is used to control the APF. The system is simulated on MATLAB/Simscape Power Systems toolbox on three scenarios.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114404003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It proposes the use of communication protocol MQTT, which uses publisher-subscriber architecture. The teleoperation system has a local station and a remote station. The human operator uses a joystick to command the mobile robot located in the remote station. A human-machine interface and visual feedback are the aids for the human operator to manipulate the car-like. In this case the internet was used as the medium of communication. Finally, the efficiency of the system was analyzed from different remote locations.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122825974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We are in the knowledge era, and it has said that “artificial intelligence is the new electricity” [1]. This sets enormous challenges for implementation of a new model for the infrastructure, the acquisition and use of the smart electricity grid (Smart Grid) in Ecuador where power is required to be affordable, reliable and sustainable. It describes the current situation, and presents the status of implementation of this concept, to then be able to structure the foundations of a model based on artificial intelligence, with participation of each one of its actors, presenting the opportunity to carry the electricity power sector and the Ecuadorian society, a new era of development, sustainability, energy independence, efficiency and high availability.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125229042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this procedure might be time-consuming depending on the ability of the listener, and the number of parameters and target directions. This makes desirable a way to estimate empirically the localization accuracy before tuning sessions. To tackle this problem, we propose a virtual listener based on Support Vector Regression (SVR) to substitute the human listener in such sessions. We show that, using a small training set obtained by sampling uniformly a subject’s HRTFs across directions, our virtual listener achieves human-level localization accuracy. Moreover, simulations show that the virtual listener performance is in accordance with human perception for sound sources with different frequency content as well as sound sources filtered through non-individualized HRTFs. Finally, our approach based on SVR attains performance similar to computationally intensive methods based on Gaussian Process Regression.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116643943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tool is designed on the concepts of therapeutic education and serious games, in order to enhance the self-rehabilitation. Also, the system is built on a modular architecture to ensure its scalability and adaptation to other physical therapeutic programs. The assessment module integrated in the platform and implemented in dynamic time warping allows for a fair discrimination of the quality of the exercises performed by the users, especially when the motion acquisition is not affected by occlusion. An important contribution of this work is to propose a method that can assess both the range of motion and the compensation movements that may be involved in each exercise.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127267723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses the material between the skin and the electrodes as a dielectric for the capacitor formed between them. The device pretends to monitor heart activity in people with high skin sensitivity or with injuries, it could also be used as part of the attire of professionals such as pilots. Our hypotheses were the following: 1) It is possible to develop a system that allows monitoring heart activity through a mobile device, without the need conductor gel or even in direct contact to the skin. 2) The implemented electrodes will be able to take data with and without direct contact with the skin. 3) The system will be able to get electrocardiographic signal through at least three different type of textures. All the hypotheses were satisfied. The performance of the system was evaluated by acquiring measurements, using different textures as dielectric and then performing a paired t-test comparing them with a signal of wet Ag/Cl electrodes that are considered the gold standard now, the results suggested that there is not significative difference between the signals taken with the implemented electrodes and the ones taken with the Ag/Cl electrodes. Connectivity and performance of the App were also tested by using it and obtaining satisfactory results.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127558885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This process has an elevated and variable dead time due to the location of the temperature transmitter and the flow variation on which the delay depends. The performance of the controllers is tested under tracking and regulation conditions: change in the set point, persistent disturbance applied at a determined time. In the same way, the proposed control strategies are compared and analized each other using the robustness plot.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123707635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
