The proposed methodology includes making a simulation with georeferenced multi-agents that improve the handling of the waste. By using the GAMA platform, a simulation model was established with three types of agents: collectors, people and waste containers within an environment modeled with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) layers where the simulation takes place. Each agent is defined by limits and attributes to do actions close to reality within the simulation environment in such a way that people throw waste to the waste container which in turn are emptied by the collectors. A schedule and initial parameters are defined which are modified during the simulation to optimize the routers or the number of collectors. As results, it was observed that with the growth of population in that area, the handling of waste gets more complex. It is not enough to modify the routers, making it necessary to increase the number of collectors.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121483272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, we utilize correntropy and a shift–invariant adaptation of sparse modeling techniques as the underpinnings of a data–driven scheme where potential outliers, such as spikes, dropouts, high–amplitude impulsive noise, gaps, and overlaps are managed in a principled manner. The Maximum Correntropy Criterion (MCC) is applied to the estimation paradigms and solved via the Half–Quadratic (HQ) technique, which allows a fast and efficient computation of the optimal projection vectors without adding extra free parameters. We also posit a heuristic regarding the initial set of functions to be estimated; specifically, we restrict the search space to patterns with modulatory activity only. We then implement a robust clustering routine to provide a principled initial seed for the greedy algorithms. This heuristic is proved to alleviate the computational burden that shift–invariant unsupervised learning usually entails. The framework is tested on synthetic time series built from weighted Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) atoms under four different variants of outliers. In addition, we present preliminary results on winding data that illustrate the clear advantages of the methods.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"186 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120970064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among them, microgrids represent small versatile networks with different load types. Some microgrids require power injection at the three phase level, with stringent tolerance levels, as dictated by IEEE Standard 1547. This work presents the results of using two type of strategies, the first using direct power control DPC, and the second using d/q control. The connection to the power grid uses an L-filter with (DPC) and an LCL-filter with a PI controller in d/q coordinates. Simulations show that the DPC controller behaves well under wide varying conditions, but requires large filter inductance, while the d/q controller with LCL-filter needs special compensation to reduced inherent oscillations due to the LCL-filter.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124762842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents the implementation and deployment of a virtualized network function to solve MP-TCP’ shared bottlenecks problem. MP-TCP (MultiPath-TCP) is a protocol that allows hosts that have several interfaces to send data through multiple paths in the network. An MP-TCP connection is divided into several TCP connections called subflows that may follow different paths, in this way effective connection rates and resilience can be increased. However, in a scenario where MP-TCP is used with hosts having a single network interface, created subflows follow the same path even if several are available; this generates the problem known as a shared bottleneck. A solution to this problem is implemented as a SDN (Software Defined Networking) module that is integrated into OpenDayLight’s framework which is used as the SDN controller. This solution is then deployed as a NFV over a cloud infrastructure implemented with OpenStack over a high-end physical server. The deployment of the NFV is automated to a certain degree using Ansible, a DevOps tool. Finally, results of the tests of the SDN solution to MP-TCP’s shared bottlenecks and its operation as a NFV using a completely virtualized network are reported.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115217687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, OFDM implementation is a very challenging task due to the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) value. In this work, a PAPR reduction technique is applied, namely clipping technique. This technique is evaluated in a real OFDM system, which is implemented in software defined radio (SDR). We present and demonstrate that is possible to increase the range and coverage through the efficient use of the transmission power when the PAPR reduction technique is applied in the SDR technology. The results show that when a clipping technique with a threshold of 60% is used, the power required is reduced in 33.75%. Additionally, the reduction percentage could be transformed into 9.58% of increase in range and 63.07% in coverage.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126659875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uncertainties represent changes in the operating conditions of the system, resulting in degradation of performance of a conventional controller. To address this problem, an optimal robust controller is investigated, aiming to maintain acceptable dynamic performance throughout the range of permissible operating points. In order to maintain efficiency of control process at high level, the controller parameters are optimized by using the Chebyshev’s theorem as robust control technique that guarantees the minimization of the total deviation from the desired performance in a closed-loop system, specified by a family of characteristic polynomials. Simulation has been carried out using Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the optimized interval robust controller is able to maintain acceptable performance across the operating range, with a minor performance degradation compared to an interval robust controller and a conventional controller.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127702004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existing methods for IR and obesity diagnosis are the HOMA-IR and body mass index (BMI), respectively. Those methods have limitations in the diagnosis. The aim of this research is to propose dimensionless indexes that can diagnose subjects with IR and obesity using anthropometrics and biochemical variables (waist circumference, height, weight, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and triglycerides). Three dimensionless indexes, designed from the π Vaschy-Buckingham theorem, were assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and a database of 829 subjects. The index π1, constructed with the variables: waist circumference, triglycerides height and weight; obtained a better performance as classifier of IR and obesity, presenting an area under the ROC curve of 0.78, sensitivity of 0.82 and specificity of 0.68 for IR diagnosis, and an area under the ROC curve of 0.68, sensitivity of 0.66 and specificity of 0.65 for obesity diagnosis. The π1 dimensionless index designed in this study is a simple method that allows diagnosing two pathologies from variables that can be collected in a routine medical examination.","PeriodicalId":334574,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134107231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
